I’ve used my Y11 continuously since ‘97. Only the frame, crank and gripshift are original. An upgraded air shock and fork for about 100mm of travel makes it a dream on single track. The bob is no longer an issue. Hydraulic discs required adding a bracket to the rear. This 25lb 26’ still gets as much saddle time as my new 30lb+ 29er dually. This year, The Y11 will become a 1X. Still my favorite bike….
I had one in size medium. Picked it up a 2yo demo from a shop in Huntsville in '97, and even then it was turning heads. There was a race series at a local course that year, and the bike shaved 5 minutes off my time on a hardtail without even trying. I raced that bike until 2000, when I found an STP-200. Outdated design, but I still think it's the most beautiful bike I've ever owned. Wish I'd kept it, if only as wall hanger art.
I have a y bike. Mine is the 3. My first full suspension bike as well. But I rode that thing so much I beat it up where it has battle scars. And yes people asked me about mine but mine was aluminum and yet it was great to ride. I want to redo mine and re paint it.
I still have my '98 Trek Y22 (blue frame / orange rear triangle, Rapid Rise XTR rear derailleur, etc.); I think I also paid $2K when I got it new in 1999.
I just donated a resto-mod 1992 trek 9200 full suspension. King of the Bob. But plush downhill with rockshox front and back instead of the elastomer t4c. It was a dream bike in high school. Never meet your heroes. They'll disappoint you.
I have been trying to find one. The first time I rode a Trek 9000 I was amazed the the crank could turn 1/4 of a rotation before moving. Of course the bike got an inch taller at the same time. I want one just for the novelty. Thanks for sharing.👍
Actually if you had a large Y bike it wasn't that bad but if you were unfortunate enough to need a small it was the worst of them all. Medium Y bikes did pogo alot.
Thud. I had a Y33 that for whatever reason, threw me over the handlebars so often that my friends called me Thud. I've owned 10s of mountain bikes over 35 years. None climbed better or threw me over the handlebars more often.
When I was a kid, I thought these were fugly. I’m glad to have matured because these are ❤
I still think these bikes are wild. I have one myself hanging on the wall.

My bike is about the same as yours. Not much original left. Thanks for sharing.👍
Still riding mine. Love it!

Thanks for sharing. I do think it's like rolling art.👍

Looks awesome 👌

The Y... Pogo stick of the century!

Pogo of the century has to go to Treks 9000 series bikes.
Wife was looking for a trike and found your channel. Im a nut for classic mountian bikes!
Thank you!👍
Ive got 3 in my garage, the nude carbon y33 is my favorite
Thanks for sharing a piece of history. Is there a difference between the Y11 in the blue color scheme vs Y22?
Just the components.👍

Probably due to the long stem on the bike. All those bikes had extra long stems. You couldn't help but go over the bars.
Mine cracked at the seat collar. Got replaced with a Klein hardtail frome because they had stopped making them... :(
I don't know. That might have been a good trade. Those Kleins were pretty nice.👍
not sure i would that much for a bike. but it is your hobby. my question is what did the wife think at the time. lol
I was 17 at the time and not married. I definitely got my money's worth out of the bike. It was worth every penny.👍
I have some 1994 Mag 20 shocks with the headset recall if anybody is interested.
