I think that the interesting pointy brush that came in the same package as the mottler brush is called a "cat's tongue" brush.

This was so interesting, um question is the oval wash like a cats tongue brush? I’m not sure what a cats tongue brush is and if I want this, looks interesting when people use but would I also what do you use this brush for if you know what it is. Great video and I know I’m going to rewatch this again, lol I’m a sucker for a good water colour brush.

Not going to lie, I’d never heard of a cat’s tongue brush until just now lol, but yes, it appears to be the same type as the oval watercolour brushes. I would guess that the nickname is because the oval brushes that are meant for more watercolour-like paint seem to all have that little pointed tip as opposed to most other oval/filbert brushes that are completely rounded at the end. I believe that they’re most frequently used when doing more flowers/foliage types of paintings as the brush shape can lend itself well to those subjects with easy brushstrokes.

I just ordered my first cat’s tongue brush last week. They are used for florals such as rose petals but they are also used for sky washes. All the UA-cam videos I’ve watched said they are great for making fine lines with the tip, you can use them on their side and the full brush for sky washes. They also seem to be called sky brushes from some companies. They look to be very versatile.

@@studioofmm the 3/4 oval aqua elite brush you showed is definitely a cat’s tongue . It should remain in that shape and not loosen up with usage. Enjoy it. You were lucky to find it in a set
