As a fellow Canadian, I found the best price was actually ordering online from Jackson's. Even after paying duties it was still cheaper then buying them in Canada.

I bought the Volcano Yellow and Red from that range and the word “underwhelmed” doesn’t begin to describe it… I much prefer the four Van Gogh dusk colours as granulating and separating colours. They are Mars Black PBk11 mixed with strong staining colours (just like Daniel Smith’s Lunar Blue). Much more affordable (at least here in Europe), with a very strong pigment load and they rewet beautifully when dried in pans. I love Schmincke paints but I’m not a fan of the super granulating range.

I decided for the tundra set, because for me they are the most special and versitile set. I'm like a little gremlin who secretly loves all these special colors but I have to stop myself from hoarding all those so I allowed myself just one set :D

Great review and gorgeous painting! Most of these can be mixed from lower cost paints. There are a few pigments that I bought from Schmincke like the green umber and that yellow, but for the most part, they can be mixed far cheaper by using the pigment numbers. Happy experimenting! 🎨

Got some samples to try out in me and my friend’s “fusion” paintings of Chinese landscapes. Considering Xuan paper doesn’t hold multiple layers very well; I may let my professional artist friend do the first attempts…although..they are sitting on my table screaming to be used. (Maybe my double Xuan semi-sized would work better…🤔). I got mostly greens, desert colors, with a few from the glacier set. My friend got Galaxy with some from Tundra and also other violets/purples.
Thanks for the comment about them lifting…while I ALWAYS put my ink painting down first (it’s permanent); my friend is experimenting on doing background under painting (usually with staining, perm colors), with ink over and then other colors on top..I’ll forewarn her so she doesn’t end up with a muddy mess, cancelling out the effects of these beautiful paints. Can’t wait to also mix them with some (similarly priced) super-vision paints…maybe a bit too much, but it won’t hurt to play! 😁

Oh how couldn't you just splash them about the first try? Next ones can be more disciplined.

Dollar store paints are better quality than what Davinci or Rembrandt had access to. It's not the paints or the brushes that make the artist. It's the other way around.

These are honestly really awesome! I love your work, and your video was super informative. I'll have to save up for them, but I'm definitely adding them to my pallet.

I have every set. SMDH. I know. I know. It's a lot of money. BUT I LOVE GRANULATING PAINTS! And I'm too lazy to mix my own. You will love them too!
Oh! I forgot to add! Buy them off of Jackson's. They have the best prices for them on that site.

You are so knowledgeable and willing to share your skills. You also offer honest evaluations. Though, I am not that familiar with watercolor painting, I would greatly appreciate your slowing down the cadence of your speech.

I have some of these (the 5 ml sets) and they are gorgeous... I am thinking of getting them all but it's a bit tricky to find the 5 ml new sets (Desert, Volcano, Haze, Shire). I think one of my favorite colors so far is Glacier Green which is kind of surprising because my favorite colors in general involve stronger shades of blue. It's like a soft greenish turquoise mixed with coolish brown/purple (sorry for all the "ish"s but it is tricky to describe it in words 😅)

I believe when I was doing research on them I saw that Jackson’s art supplies had all of the sets. They are pretty great about shipping things worldwide.
Haha, don’t worry, I get it! Half of these colours are impossible to describe. I’m glad I get to use a video to attempt to explain things 😆

These do look fantastic in your painting. I’m interested in the Shire set, think it might add something to my weird landscape paintings (I’m lovin the effect and people are liking them but they do look weird kind of mystical), well that and the Volcano set (lol I love the name sounds dangerous and fun funky times ahead). Thanks for the honest review and I’m of gonna re watch as I love all the tips you impart to us. Thank you for sharing your painting gift with us and also for a great review on these paints.

The shire set looks so nice! I probably use green paint colours the least so it wouldn’t be what I’d go for first but for landscape painters it looks like it would be amazing.

I saw these at Deserres and had to grab my pearls at the price lol. What colours would you suggest? Keep creating 💙💜💛

This website has some awesome swatches of them that you might want to check out: www.adamstownart.com.au/watercolour/schmincke/super_granulating_swatches.php
But for me the ones that had the most noticeable colour split (and therefore were the ones most worth the price tag in my opinion) were Galaxy Violet, Tundra Violet, Deep Sea Indigo & Desert Green. Galaxy Brown is also quite nice, I just see myself using the other colours slightly more for how I plan on using them in the future. There were some colours that I was interested in getting that Deserres didn’t have for whatever reason so I might have to track those down in the future.
