I just watched your Power Driver video and was really impressed that you showed the eq on an oscilloscope. I was a bit bummed that you didn't use it on this video. That would have been very interesting.
Great review. I’m surprised this pedal hasn’t blown up. It’s easily my top 3 pedals. It’s a great “always on” pedal with fantastic range to get whatever dirt sound you need IMO.
I found this video because I literally just bought one. I was looking into the new WARM audio CE-1 copy, then realized I only really wanted the preamp since I rarely use chorus and that thing takes up a lot of real estate. Excited for it to arrive!
Owned the Dunlop Preamp for a while. Pro tip it can reduce your overall volume while colouring. Just got the xotic ep booster last week. Boy is it loud. On 0 it’s already +3db. I use it at the very end as an overall volume knob.
Hey again! Looks like a cool pedal. For many years I didn't see the point of the so called "clean boost". Then i tried a Boss GE-7 and liked what it did to my modded Twin, got an LPB-1 and now have a JHS Haunting Mids that sometimes replaces the overdrive on my board depending on which amp I'm using. Great video, very educational.
Finally. Someone who understands. I got this one the week it was released. It's magnificent... if you understand its purpose. I'm guessing a lot of players get boxed into the mindset of using it like and overdrive. It's not an OD! That gain control behaves notably different than a traditional dirt pedal. This thing has all the signs of people figuring it out long after its discontinued.
It's a handsome pedal and most of the pros seem to use overdrive pedals with the gain virtually off or minimal, then driving the sound from the volume of the pedal hitting the tubes or ss whatever it is. Because of that I like having more fine control of a low gain sound - it offers a nice grit without taking over the empire
I L💜VE this pedal. I’d agree also that it’s their best dirt pedal since the BD-2. I use mine into a solid state amp and it just lifts it into a wonderful place. Stacks well with other drives and is great when a fuzz either needs more volume or fullness. Boss nailed it with this pedal.
I did a review of this unit on my channel too. I really liked it! Not as flexible as my favorite pedal, the Jackson audio golden boy but the different modes on the Waza pedal helps cater to various different amps.
I have a Blackstar Artist 15 amp, which has an old school clean that has no preamp and goes straight to the power amp. This channel is ok as a clean, but doesn’t do well with pedals. Think I could use a spark mini boost and a boss 7 band eq as a “preamp” before the clean. This boss seems interesting. Nice rack pieces! All the units I lusted after in the 90s
Haven’t tried this one, but the Waza stuff in general is phenomenal. Truly industry leading, but Boss doesn’t really hype their stuff anywhere near as much as many of the trendy boutique brands. Anyways, Waza is great. I love the FZ-1w, that quickly became an all time favorite fuzz. HM-2w and DM-2w are super cool too, and the BD-2w really is one of their very best drives, though the OD-3 always has the top spot in my heart.
So, since I mostly use small power amps, maybe I should get one.... I guess I'm using a Nobles ODR mini as a pre-amp. Always on. Makes Russian Big Muff sound like a monster.
I wonder if boost pedals will be the ‘victims’ of the current pedal boom because the era we are in now is amp sims, direct recording, direct to PAs etc
I hope not! I think boost pedals absolutely still have a place in the modeling world. I use two BP-1Ws for gain staging on my pedal board and I use a Marshall amp sim at the end of my board, directly into PA.
Yeah, I wish I could record more videos with mics on amps but I live in a small house and I record my stuff late at night. Maybe some day I’ll be be able to have a little sound proofed studio to do it better.
@@StompboxBreakdown Oh man, i hear that. The Simplifier is a cool device for sure. Anything that lets you get the job done when you otherwise couldn't is OK in my book. Cheers.
Tried one of these with my solid state JC amps and predictably it sounded pants. Talk about user error! But then a cheapie TCE full size Spark sounds quite good with them. Go figure.
Your guitar is plugged into the pedal but what else are we listening to ???? A guitar amp with a mic? Direct with some sort of digital modeler ??? In my opinion demos are kind of useless unless viewers know what they are actually listening to.
@@StompboxBreakdown Thanks, it's basic info to know what is actually being heard in an audio demo. The Simplifier is a cool device for doing the direct guitar thang. I sometimes use a direct analog solution for practice, kind of a kludged together version of the Simplifier which is a Joyo American into an ADA GCS-5. Got the ADA cheap used and the Joyo was only $30 brand new. Either one alone should do the job alone (the Joyo has a somewhat subtle cabsim built in) but it sounds so much better using both together.

Love my Waza Booster! My only literally always-on pedal, whether with my tube amps or my Sunn it just works phenomenally.

I'm also not clear what this pedal offers over a GE-7? Does it add harmonics to the signal?
Works perfect in the effects loop!!! Great video
Excellent pedal, the 3 modes definitely have their own flavours.
Definitely. It’s something Boss wouldn’t have made back in the 90s and the way it works with even a simple tube amp is magical
Great video, man. I love this channel and series.
I got this right when it came out, and it's SO cool. It will make literally anything sound better. Even piezo pickups!
Great video, great pedal, great channel!
Thanks!! What beer you working on?
This channel should have at least 30 times more subscribers; tell your friends!
The BP-1w is fantastic sounding!

Absolutely agreed. So many pedals are headed that way. Just wait until people learn about the Tera Echo.

Those who know, know. It really brings life to other pieces of gear.
I was just playing that at Guitar Center's pedal island the other day... great video!

Weekend off to a great start- New Stompbox Breakdown Video!!!!!!
awesome! I'm using Past Fx preamp pedal atm, but I think this one nails the ce1 crunch sound
Strymon deco came to mind when you were talking about desirable tape drive tones
Yeah, I need to try and get my hands on one of those.
This pedal really sounds sweet. I am looking forward to modding one of these to have a tone control.
The hat was an unexpected treat 😂
This is a great pedal!
Why did I have to watch this? I just bought the FZ1w.
I came really close to buying this pedal, but needed a fuzz. This might be my next pedal.
I have the fz-1w and love it just picked this up and played a gig with it. Had it on the whole time. Loved it.

Okay, this convinced me I must try to find a way to use my Fulltone 2B. Looks like a second pedal board build incoming.....
Very nice.
it's got that bonkle
Its like MSG for tone

I have the Line Selector pedal & that works as a boost too.
Another fantastic underrated white Boss pedal
I like you …I mean, your videos.
I've heard that stickers are the key to good tone.

That reverb has an angry mother and she's gonna avenge what you did to her son
Yea Easy Bake Oven, that was a great way to say it.
Are you playing through a modeler?
I’m using a Humboldt Simplifier. It’s a simulator but not a digital modeler.
@@StompboxBreakdown Ah, okay. Thanks.

I do love that full-size Spark. There’s not much it can’t do.
You always need another pedal 😂
Oh hey, the voice in my head got a youtube account!
A pedalboard of nothing but character preamp pedals all turned on at once is a video I kinda want to watch
All The Character.
