My uncle up in Alabama who runs a mechanic shop from his home built his old air compressor from an old 1.6 VW TDI engine. He plugged off one of the injector lines to one of the cylinders and installed a metal line threaded into the plugged off cylinder via the glow plug hole. He did something to the exhaust valve so it never opens on that cylinder also. He has an old 3 phase electric motor belted to the engine that normally rotates the engine to create pressure, but he did design it so he could run it by starting it up on 3 cylinders off diesel and the 4th cylinder acting as air compressor. He has had it since i was a teenager. His is plumed to an old propane tank outside that he turned into the compressor tank. IDK how well it would do compared to your VMAX, but i do remember it being pretty dang powerful due to the high compression of the diesel engine.

I've made them out of stainless steel or copper tubing lines and if you bend it like a candy cane it works great to clean out the gutters.

Forget the air compressor for holding valves. fill the cylinder with a 1/4in rope. Or whatever fits

You need to put some holes in that pipe to make it OSHA compliant. We had those except we had metal pipe. They were great for blowing things down until OSHA compliance made maintenance drill holes through them to make them safe.

Hi Stephen , I made one out of 1/4 “ copper , used with a small 20 gallon compressor it’s good for cleaning the interior of the family cars but not the shop you can vacuum the car but if you use the air wand it get’s the dirt and dust out better .

As awesome as VMAC's products appear to be, they don't have anything for home gamers. All of their stuff is multiple thousands of dollars, and while that's probably fine for pros, it would be great if they had something for the weekend warriors and off-roaders, who don't use their truck to make money, but still need a portable compressor.

was moving with Uhaul. Next morning at the hotel, doing a tire check, found a near flat tire on the 24 foot truck. Called Uhaul, they sent their service truck out. It took almost 30 minutes to remove the tire because the combo generator compressor could not supply enough air for more than ONE lug nut. Spin nut off, wait for compresssor. X10. Service guy had nothing good to say about his service truck other than thats all he could get from Uhaul.

That IR compressor acts like something is wrong in the compressor itself. I would tear it apart and figure out what's wrong with it. Acts like there is blow-by in the cylinder.

Can you say air output and hp of v Mac vs Ingersoll? I'd say v Mac is way higher. We use Quincy 5hp to feed our pigs. It uses a lot of air and have never had a problem besides electric motor in 5 years

  • @rodneythornburg818

They are 2 different types of compressors. The vmac is a fast recovery small tank compressor. Its designed for working out of a repair truck. The IR looked like a 1 cylinder compressor that is more a home shop unit. I would say if the IR was out doing the vmac there would be something very wrong. I true commercial IR wouldn't have this problem, but would be a lot larger. This looked like comparing apples to oranges to me.
I've worked in a shop with commercial air compressors with 4 of us using air grinders and air sanders at the same time.
You just need a bigger shop compressor with a higher output that is a true commercial unit.

slap a kaeser rotary screw in for a shop compressor, it's crazy to run a small gas engine piston compressor for a "shop" that runs 8 hours a day.. the electric will cycly it self on and off, now if were talking service truck options, HELL YEAH thats a bad little unit..

  • @samf5442

Get a finned motor for better cooling, and possibly just a bigger compressor, you clearly want more CFM in your shop.

Your compressor comparison may not be all that fair. What is the cfm out put for each of them. I'm looking at replacing my shops air compressor and the cfm ranges from 16 to 30 for a 220v (3,5,7,10 Hp) 80 gal compressor . So if your V mac is a 30 cfm and the Ingersoll is only 16 then yes the Ingersoll will never keep up

  • @GRANITEMONUMENT
    @GRANITEMONUMENT 3 роки тому

I think the vmac is a great little unit, but we must remember we have to match the compressor to the job, be sure you know how many cfm your going to be using, and for how long you will need it, not all compressors are 100% duty cycle, you can buy a great miller welder and tell everyone millers are the best, and someone go buy a low end miller 90amp mig , and say this thing is a peice of garbage next to a harbor freight vulcan multi process.. we all know the miller is the better name brand but we must compare apples to apples, the name brand alone does not get the job done, should talk a little about compressor types, cfm, pressure, and duty cycle, weather your running storage or just modgulating the machine to the load, I run both systems, I run a Kaeser asd 25 575 volt 3 phase rotary screw, with 500 gallon storage in the shop, and a kaeser 25 hp kubota diesel rotary screw with no storage in the field, both systems used for sandblasting "huge demands" continous duty.. and they are both perfect for their uses, although more hp is always welcome.. If anyone knows the compressor game well, they will all tell you kaeser is a very good machine, now the vmac in question is also a stellar unit, but if we put my compressor in your application it would be a waste, and your compressor in my application I would burn it up in a week., so its imperritive that we match the compressor to the job.. that being said, field mechanic, your not going to beat that vmac unit, and a lot of my reasoning for saying that is because when and if you have engine problems after 5 , 10 or 20 years, depending on work load, its jsut a throw away and bolt on a new engine, and away you go at a minimal expense.. where justins compressor putting wear and tear on it to idle while your change brakes on a f150 in the field is not the unit for the application.., love the content steve, not meant to contridict anything you said just add some context.. love the videos, keep em coming..

Motor on the IR should be able to run continuously. If the overload is tripping something's not right. On the other hand cycling on and off too often kills compressor motors.

Comparing a single piston IR to a rotary air compressor is like comparing apples to oranges. Get you an IR rotary screw air compressor and I bet it will make that vmac hang it’s head in shame...
