Kubo foreshadowed that Kyoraku only had one zanpakuto at first.

Bleach friends who read this comment who are hesitant to start One Piece, he's spitting straight facts here. I like the second form for Lille better for sure. Whilst both forms are ugly, ultimately angels are supposed to be ugly and scary sounding/looking to the point of boggling the mind in the folklore often times. (not all of them are just people with wings). I don't like the green aura as much as the yellow aura so the 2nd one is an upgrade for me. The small detail that he uses a trumpet for his final attack as a messenger of God is cool too. Israfil who is Islam's Raphael equivalent as the Abrahamic god's messenger also uses a trumpet. I get that his form is not for everyone though :). Even as an atheist I find details like this interesting for much the same reason I like seeing the Japanese stuff.

In the flashback shunsui looks up at the sky while he sleeps in his brother and sister-in-law home under the shadow of a pine if their garden, the same pine in his bankai name, and his bankai is about a tragic love story that ends up with the death of the lovers, just like his brother and sister-in-law died tragically, the former for a curse and the second for an unfair execution. Kyoraku whole power is due the tragedy he lived. The shadows, the tragic love story, the pine. Also from the get go nanao was never shown having a zanpakuto, she told jugram she became a lieutenant because of her kido prowess. We know that dual wield zanpakuto are not natural, however both ichigo and ukitake have a dual wield in their shikai state, not sealed state. Kyoraku was the only one to have two blade sealed, because his sword spirit spawned a second one to hide in its shadow ise clan sword, in fact both his sword have only 1 power. And even back in SS arc Kyoraku and ukitake were stated to have the only dual wield zanpakuto in the soul society history.

Also Shinken Hakkyoken translates to Eight Mirror Sword and there were eight mirrors in the dome that Senjumaru put Lille in. Similarly, Pernida was engulfed by black soil. Black soil in Japanese means Kurotsuchi. And Mayuri Kurotsuchi was the one who defeated Pernida in the end. So there's a theory that Senjumaru's Bankai is a reality weaving Bankai. Also Shunsui was told that he wouldn't run into the curse by hiding the sword anymore but that wasn't the case. He lost his mentor or father figure in Yamamoto, colleague in Unohana and a friend in Ukitake. Also there's a theory that this Shinken Hakkyoken is the sword used to dismember the Soul King. That's why Central 46 was quick to execute Nanao's mother.
I do respect Kubo for an early foreshadow certain thing from the beginning like the black ink cover Zangetsu name. But this zanpaktou for sure just a last minute plot armor since it was never mention once before this or even teased. It exist just only for this battle alone, not Yhwach or other higher quincies like Jugram. Its weird.
We see other spiritual weapons that are owned by other noble families though and we get to see their power. So a spiritual weapon being pulled out in this episode and it being OP isn't out of line with what we have seen previously. The only real plot armor is it being Nanao's family that possessed this item. However, through the series, Nanoa is the only Lieutenant (Nemu aside, who is not a real soul reaper) that is never shown with a Zanpaktou. There were subtle hints there. Then there is Shunsui's two Zanpaktou spirits. By this point we have learned having two spirits is not a natural occurrence, so this fittingly fills in how his dual spirits came to be. However, the sword itself is not as OP as people make it out to be. It would be useless against Jugram since he is not a god. And Yhwach is transcendent. The only way that sword can hurt him is if he lets it since he sees all, including all possible futures.
