It really works! .. I got home today and was looking at my tires and I found a 'Goat's Head' thorn sticking in my front bicycle tire. I pulled it out and of course it started leaking air! So I quickly flipped my bike upside down and started spinning the tire to hopefully get the slime to seal the leak.. and it did! About 30 seconds later the leak had stopped and I ended up losing only about 30 PSI of my tires pressure. Filled it back up with my pump and it is holding steady with no more leaking.

Nice! Yeah I got three punctures with slime before the tube finally failed. Just make sure you keep a close eye on the pressure sometimes it would just randomly drop on me. I also recently upgraded the rear tire to a Schwalbe marathon plus tour and haven't gotten a puncture since... excellent peace of mind.

I use it as a preventative its not as good as the one used on tubeless, but that is because to seal, it needs quick contact with air, and you really don't get that when a tube is in a tire, so it just does not work as effectively.
I generally just bring a spare tube, and when I get home, just repair the broken tube just like carrying a spare tire. So people just take a spare tube. I generally have a Kenda thornproof on my MTB (it's a really old MTB that does not have tubeless rims) and a similar one on my Touring bike.
Also, if you are doing long trips with tubeless carry a spare tube, you may be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a big blowout and no way to fix your tire.

I had 3 punctures in a week on my ebike, so l tried Slime and have had none in nearly a year. I did try marathon plus tyres before trying the slime but still had a couple of punctures on them. So far Slime has been the best solution. When periodically putting more air in the tyres the slime can start to clog the valve as you’re attaching the pump line but the force of a good pump (l use a car foot pump) counteracts that easily.

Slime works great with new tubes as a preventative as it has more time to seal before air the tire goes flat. Going tubeless is by far the best, Maxima brand or Slime brand tubeless sealer works great, I only get a flat if I explode my tire from a 12 ft drops to concrete other than that it seals up pretty much anything.

  • @electron46

Thank you for the helpful video. I find it helpful to screw the clear plastic tube onto the valve stem rather than pushing it on. That eliminates pushing the valve stem towards the rim.

You don't need to wait until you have a flat to use Slime. I had that stuff in a MTB tires when I changed the rear tire I had a hard time to pull the tube out of the tire because it was glued in from the slime that sealed must been 50-75 punctures. Works a lot better when its already in tire. Don't carry it out it in the tire you won't even know you had a flat.

I purchased a new jetson bolt pro with 14 inch tire, tube. Before I took it out I pulled the valve stem and put in 4 to 6 oz. In tube then inflated. After all I heard about slime I felt protected enough to go on at least to go on the bike paths in my neighborhood we two days ago I experienced a rear tire flat because of a little tiny sticker which I thought I was protected from. Reinflated the tire and it held air overnight but once I was on the road for about a mile it went flat again what did I or slime do wrong cuz I thought I was doing serious preventive maintenance. I recently realised why roads & pavements in Glasgow are "sparkling" with widespread shattered glass inc thousands of tyre-puncturing shards that'd go straight through a toddler's soft shoes if stepped on. I believe what explains why there's glass & random steel screws everywhere is this; The Roads Dept apparently used *Recycled Glass Sand* instead of quarry / beach sand as "road grit". The Recycled Glass wasnt filtered so it's not just full of tyre+shoe puncturing shards of sharp glass it's also left behind 1,000's of car/bike tyre damaging steel screws everywhere. Since the ice melted we're left with glass everywhere; Cyclists can't use roads, pavements OR cycle lanes without daily risk of repeat punctures. £millions were invested developing cycle paths in Glasgow; Was that not moronic stupidity (Fraud?) to "grit" our roads using ground-up bottles!? I think we're all going to be watching videos like this.. and buying bike tyre slime.

I have used Slime and Flat Attack on bicycles. Flat Attack is a more reliable product to fix flats on bikes. If you make the wrong choice, you might have a long time to think about it when you walk your bike home. @@eBikeaholic it is much more reliable to plug holes. The Giant bike shop here turned me onto it. I have had flats with both. Slime will work on really small holes (stickers)but Flat Attack will plug larger holes. Flat Attack is a better product. I live in Texas and we have lots of mesquite trees. I ran over a mesquite thorn twig pulled it out and the Flat Attack bubbled out. I aired my tire back up and it held pressure on my way home. It also continued to hold pressure after, made quite an impression on me. It would have been a long bike walk home. Did not have anybody I could call to come and pick me up.

I also want to try Tannus airless tires (mostly for not having to inflate them) but they're $80 each and mostly get questionable reviews. Living in the desert, everything has thorns so they are everywhere. I have tire liners in one of my bikes that I mainly ride on the street, but it also sees its share of trail-riding. My other bike, which is mainly my trail bike, has slime. I have yet to catch a flat on either bike. I don't know which one functions better, but they both seem to do the trick. However, I do know that without any protection, my ex-girlfriend would get a flat approximately once every two weeks, and that was from riding only on the road . . . I could only imagine the frequency of a flat tire on the trail without protection. She eventually used protection, I can't recall which, but flats were no longer an issue for her.

Tire liners are heavy and you have to balance the tire if you don't you're just asking for wear and tear on other parts. Slime works just fine when using a new tube as a preventative, best options is going tubeless, I have and never looked back, the only time I get a flat is when I street freestyle and explode the tire on a 10 ft drop to concrete other than that thorns just pop out or bounce off and it seals. I use Maxima Tubeless sealer or Slime Tubeless sealer, both work the same and you save so much weight. I'll never use liners ever again.

The two that I bought for my 26er, the valves were so clogged couldn't put air in them. The other two were for my 29er I got one quick ride out of each one of them. Within an hour or two after finishing my ride they were both finished. There mini air compressors are okay but that's about it, don't waste your money on that garbage learn from my mistakes.

yeah after a while it can seep into the valves. I top off the air pressure often enough that it won't seal, how long did you leave them sitting? ... maybe try adding a little air more often. Otherwise, most tubes have removable valves, you can just replace those next time.

Good advice. I've thought of those solutions. First time the valve got plugged i didn't know it. So i screwed valve filler on and turned on the pump from my battery jumper and the pressure immediately went to a couple of hundred pounds of pressure and blew out my pump. One thing I don't understand is the values on my car never plug. My bike is stored in my house. At least this time i made sure to check before I blew out another pump. Thanks for your response. I will probably just remove the valves if i store the bike for winter.
Oh by the way i did not use slime the second time somehow the valves just corroded.

You're not supposed to use the whole bottle. Sometimes you need to refill the tube with air a few times and spin it around. If it doesn't stick after that the puncture hole is probably too large or there may be multiple holes. Did you inspect the tube afterwards?
