The first round was I think at Coalville, this helicopter simulator was certainly at RAF Culdrose and the final (air to air refuelling) was filmed at an RAF Nimrod base in Scotland. If I remember right we were supposed to go to Russia for their space shuttle equivalent but there were visa problems or similar - believe me JJLincoln90, the shuttle could not have been harder than the refuelling. Happy Days.
Hi Paul! Happy days indeed! ;-) JJLincoln - the other two finalists were Tristan, who I seem to recall broke the assualt course record time, and some bloke called Laurence Parsons, who seemed to be there to make up the numbers ;-)
That physical course was not comfortable viewing for someone of a nervous disposition! Miraculous recovery, that could have ended very very wrong indeed!
Correct, and each grand final from 1988 onward had it's own unique response round In this one I believe it was a refueling mission using the Nimrod simulator which was quite amusing because if memory serves me correctly all 4 finalists failed miserably
When the Response round permanently changed to the flight simulator version, was that round pre-recorded just like Physical Ability? I ask because it looks like the contestants are watching their own performance in that round.
is there any chance you remember the episode were the guy finished the jet course by going under the bridge upside down.... also isn't youtube amazing?, i think of a vague example of some flying i want to mention to somebody and here it is on youtube.... if you have the specific episode i will pee my pants
Thanks so much for taking me back. What a show ❤😊

Hats off to Paul for finishing the assault course after that fall
That is a cool set for the 1991 series of The Krypton Factor.

Who else wants a compilation of the Observation Phase serials?
I think Where is Don Day is quickly becoming my favorite!
To my knowledge, the Response Round was permanently the flight simulator from 1988. Prior to that, the response round was done in-studio.
In some finals, they had to manoeuvre a real plane
‘Tony Hetherington’ is such an early 1990s name 🤣
It is! 😂
More episodes please!

It was the Boeing 737, the same one they used for 1992 and 1993
Could you upload the grand finals from 1989 and 1992 please?
30 year olds in 1991 look like the 50 year olds of today
