GROOMING A SHEDDING HORSE In Spring~May 2023 De-Shedding Duchess The 30 Yr-Old Quarter Horse

Hi friends! For those new to the channel, this is Duchess. She is a 30 year old quarter horse with a thick winter coat. I've been helping her shed out her coat for the past few months. It was March when she really started to shed a lot. We are now in May, and she is still in complete shedding mode! I use a metal scraper to get rid of the shedding hairs from her coat. It's satisfying to watch all the hairs come off! It feels good for Duchess to shed some hair because the temperatures throughout the days have gotten much warmer, but the nights are still cool, so she still has enough of her coat to stay warm during the night time. Aww, she looks great for a 30 year old horse. She must be well looked after my Friesian mare sheds a lot like this to still shedding right now.

Why don’t you just clip them?

I don’t clip any of the horses. But, the barn does hire people to come clip for the horses that are being ridden and sweat a lot… that does not include duchess. Also, she’s always had her coat natural, she’s lived outside her whole life is what I was told before she came to the barn last year. Thanks for asking & watching❤️
