    Nice video sir. I'm a 4th generation trapper and it's nice to hear your daughter accompanies you on occasion. The flood in NE Colorado destroyed numerous trapping areas I had. I now trap in other states until populations rebound. Keep up the good work and, help educate those that don't understand trapping is a management tool to only harvest a limited number of targeted animals

    I've never hunted or trapped a day in my life but I love these videos. So cool to watch a master at work.

    Reminds me of the "good old days" when i was just a kid. Trapped starting at 14 years old, Nov 15 thru March 15, up at 4:15 in the morning, get dressed boots on grab a light and off i go. Check all the traps ( about 20 ) and take them all home or else someone would steal them. Get home, have breakfast, go to school, get out at 2, back home, change grab my traps and go set them all over again While i am in school the rats i caught were hanging to dry in the basement. After i set the traps, back home for dinner, then go and skin whatever i caught, put them on stretchers inside-out. Do the same thing, almost every day. Nice way to earn a few bucks.

    Good catches! FYI- your third trap is not a coil spring, it is a jump trap. Still a good trap if you can find them.

      Good stuff so far! Im always looking for this kinda thing. We don't have too many food beds like that here. I catch most of my muskrats in bottom edge sets at rd crossings.

    man, i have yet to find a rat march or pond that I'm able to walkin without going over my waders maybe the ponds in Minnesota are different then here

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  11 років тому +1

      There are quite a few marshes here that I can only trap from my john boat. I was very fortunate that this area was actually an island and small bay out in a sandy bottom fishing lake. The water was only a couple feet deep around the entire island and made for some easy trapping. I was also lucky the rat population here was so good. I ended up taking 70 rats in 4 days here it was alot of fun. hope you enjoyed the video pal!

    Did you know that muskrats are the largest rodents of the hamster family?

  • @MittenStateOutside
    @MittenStateOutside 8 років тому

    so you dont have to stake the conibears down? the rats wont knock them over? they always set it off?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 років тому

      I always wire them off to something but when I set 110s in the runs I just set the trap down in the run and tilt it back against the entrance hole at a slight angle. I would say my catch rate is about 95% and almost zero misses

    • @MittenStateOutside
      @MittenStateOutside 8 років тому +1

      +330 MaNiaC basically your just wiring them to the stake then

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 років тому

      +jjc531 yup exactly

    • @MittenStateOutside
      @MittenStateOutside 8 років тому +1

      +330 MaNiaC how do u make a conibear set under the ice right on the stake? like the trap on the stake how do.u get up to stay at the desired height on the stake?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 років тому

      +jjc531 Did you watch my video on trapping rats with 110s through the ice? I show my sets in detail on that one.

  • @KettlePointHobo
    @KettlePointHobo 10 років тому +1

    Do you need bait or scents at theses pad sets or are they just set at travel channels

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  10 років тому

      John Webb They are set right on top of their feeding stations so the rats climb right on top into the traps.

    You dont use bait?? you catch all on the trail? Why on your 4 first set the Muskrat walk on your trappe?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  9 років тому

      +sebastien labbé No I don't use any bait. I set on the main trails they travel or on their feed stations they travel to nightly.

    Anyone else notice around the 10minute mark he forgot to put the trap chain ring over the stake? I've done it before as well lol

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  10 років тому

      Actually Kyle all of my traps are wired to the stake below the water with a foot of wire so no need to put the ring over the stake. You can't see that though from the video lol

  • @prohunter649
    @prohunter649 11 років тому +3

    That is not a 1 1/2 coil spring it's a number 1 jump trap

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  11 років тому +1

      Yes I know it is lol. But I didn't realize it until after I turned the camera off and was taking the beaver out of the set I had named the wrong trap, But I commend you for noticing so far your the only person thats brought it to my attention.
