- Sweet Open Water Fall Muskrat Trapping Video! Bonus Beavers Caught in Between sets in #1 Rat Trap ending the Video with a Huge Blanket Beaver Snared on the Bank!!! Sorry for the wind noise in the background folks.
Nice video sir. I'm a 4th generation trapper and it's nice to hear your daughter accompanies you on occasion. The flood in NE Colorado destroyed numerous trapping areas I had. I now trap in other states until populations rebound. Keep up the good work and, help educate those that don't understand trapping is a management tool to only harvest a limited number of targeted animals
I've never hunted or trapped a day in my life but I love these videos. So cool to watch a master at work.
Very nice, and wind noise is part of the deal. Perry Watkins the Set-N-Go Trapper™
Good looking stuff my friend and the fur will pile up quick the way you were catching rats today...Nice beaver to end the day off with...
Awesome video!! Loved it.
Thanks Jonathan!!
Reminds me of the "good old days" when i was just a kid. Trapped starting at 14 years old, Nov 15 thru March 15, up at 4:15 in the morning, get dressed boots on grab a light and off i go. Check all the traps ( about 20 ) and take them all home or else someone would steal them. Get home, have breakfast, go to school, get out at 2, back home, change grab my traps and go set them all over again While i am in school the rats i caught were hanging to dry in the basement. After i set the traps, back home for dinner, then go and skin whatever i caught, put them on stretchers inside-out. Do the same thing, almost every day. Nice way to earn a few bucks.
+PianoMan Smith I got many memories just as you speak of and many more with the days i've spent with my dad on our trapline many years ago. Thanks for watching.
Another great video
nice action, don;t you love it,i enjoy a steady catch straight ahead like that'god way to start a morning, have a good season
You rock wish we had rats in southern minnesota like we used to
Great catches. Gotta love trapping.
Awesome vid thanks
i wanted to know what ponds and creeks should i look for to have a better chance of catching muskrat because i have bin having a lot of trapping problems because i just started trapping.
Good catches! FYI- your third trap is not a coil spring, it is a jump trap. Still a good trap if you can find them.
Yup i noticed that after I shot the video but couldn't fix it. Thanks for watching!
Good stuff so far! Im always looking for this kinda thing. We don't have too many food beds like that here. I catch most of my muskrats in bottom edge sets at rd crossings.
chuckinvt I love bottom edge sets thy are very deadly here also for a number of critters!
another great video can u do a beginners video on muskrat. Thanks for the great vidoes
Nice catches man
I can't wait to muskrat trap!
Me to I''m getting the Itch!
Sweet video thanks
XL-TheBigOne-XL . You're welcome pal thanks for watching!
Good Job
Thanks pal. I'm breaking ice this morning lol
What pan tension do you use for trapping feed beds and huts
Joey Dingeldein honestly I don't even check my pan tension
Thanks for the tips
what type of snare was that? Or did you make it out of some of your own wire?
it's a snare I bought from Dakota line snares.
Nice👍
man, i have yet to find a rat march or pond that I'm able to walkin without going over my waders maybe the ponds in Minnesota are different then here
There are quite a few marshes here that I can only trap from my john boat. I was very fortunate that this area was actually an island and small bay out in a sandy bottom fishing lake. The water was only a couple feet deep around the entire island and made for some easy trapping. I was also lucky the rat population here was so good. I ended up taking 70 rats in 4 days here it was alot of fun. hope you enjoyed the video pal!
Man you've got some rats up there. Keep it up
Thanks!
Did you know that muskrats are the largest rodents of the hamster family?
so you dont have to stake the conibears down? the rats wont knock them over? they always set it off?
I always wire them off to something but when I set 110s in the runs I just set the trap down in the run and tilt it back against the entrance hole at a slight angle. I would say my catch rate is about 95% and almost zero misses
+330 MaNiaC basically your just wiring them to the stake then
+jjc531 yup exactly
+330 MaNiaC how do u make a conibear set under the ice right on the stake? like the trap on the stake how do.u get up to stay at the desired height on the stake?
+jjc531 Did you watch my video on trapping rats with 110s through the ice? I show my sets in detail on that one.
Do you need bait or scents at theses pad sets or are they just set at travel channels
John Webb They are set right on top of their feeding stations so the rats climb right on top into the traps.
OK cool this will be my first year rattin so every bit of info helps. Thanks
John Webb You're welcome John and good luck!! check out my other rat trapping video through the ice with 110s you might enjoy that also.
What is a stop block trap ?
Stop loss not stop block
Too much wind. Couldn't hear too well. Great vid though.
You dont use bait?? you catch all on the trail? Why on your 4 first set the Muskrat walk on your trappe?
+sebastien labbé No I don't use any bait. I set on the main trails they travel or on their feed stations they travel to nightly.
+330 MaNiaC is cool you have many muskrat in your area! here he have to but the good place is rare but i have Minsk and many Minsk that to is funny
Anyone else notice around the 10minute mark he forgot to put the trap chain ring over the stake? I've done it before as well lol
Actually Kyle all of my traps are wired to the stake below the water with a foot of wire so no need to put the ring over the stake. You can't see that though from the video lol
That is not a 1 1/2 coil spring it's a number 1 jump trap
Yes I know it is lol. But I didn't realize it until after I turned the camera off and was taking the beaver out of the set I had named the wrong trap, But I commend you for noticing so far your the only person thats brought it to my attention.

I love your videos!!! You've inspired me to start using 330's and snares more...I've had some good success with snare pole (first time this year) and 330 bank den sets. Check out my channel.
