Crazy video brother and great demo...I showed 3 other guys at work your channel...We spent 3 straight hours watching your vids together...Most I have seen before...I know you got a few new subs there from the fellas...
Hi, 330 MaNiaC! Thanks for sharing this video - I was wondering how you patch/repair your waders - I have some parts of my older rubber boot failing and on the knee neoprene part - I searched online but to many results and I am sure you got some good advice. Nice video's and thanks for sharing and helping others to learn more about trapping.
great stuff always enjoy your vids man .. funny thing once in a while I gotta pause your vids cause I hear a train whistle and not sure if its the train behind my place or in your vid lol anyways merry Christmas to you and happy new years ! cheers
How do these traps work? I’m from the UK and never heard or seen of anything like this. What’s the hut for? Why are they frozen and what do you do with them?
This type of trap catches them by the foot. The tempature outside is so cold this time of year these critters must survive in these huts they builds our of grass and mud. they are a burden on the surrounding lakes eating all of the vegetation i sell them for cash or people pay me to remove them
I have one by my pond (just started trapping) and the water isn't frozen I was trying to figure out where to put them in frozen weather and without frozen.
very nice video buddy.. I my myself am not a very good rat trapper, never took the time or effort to actually learn.. but it looks like a lot of fun.. thinking about try it next fall.. lol. great video as always
Might be stupid question, but any tips on how you know where there hole will be in the house when you start choppiing, and if there are more than one place in the house to set. I gonna give it a try tomorrow. Reason i ask is there are some houses here that are the size of round bails. Plus how many should you take outta each house? Thanks, great channel.
Thanks a lot pal! I personally chop into the the flattest side of the hut. the really big ones like you speak of are tough to set but you can pull a lot of rats out of them. I generally trap a hut for 3 days before I pulled my traps and move on. I also check them twice a day the first 2 checks. I set one trap in each hut unless it's a really big one then you can dig into both sides and set a trap. There are 2 types of huts. One will have dry grass or rushes in it in a nest pattern where they sleep. I set the trap right in the center of it or there will be a large pad inside that's made of roots and such. Then you set right in the center of the pad. I also put a length of wire from the trap chain to a stick it gives the rats extra length to get down the drawing hole. Make sure and check your trapping regulations if you aren't from Minnesota to make sure it's legal.
330 MaNiaC ?? do you just do water trapping for beaver, muskrat and otters??? Do you also trap the other fur bearers?? I've been looking through your videos and all I see is cold water, fishing and game hunting. Thanks in advance.
hey I'm just a new trapper and haven't caught much but in my state we caint mess with their houses so any other ideas. we can set in front of the dens and do baited sets but is there anything else you now that works good.
Thanks and any good ideas for under ice beaver to cuz I did good till it froze with the caster mound set but now theres ice and I wanna try to do some under ice stuff
When you catch those big rats, that are more gold on the sides than brown, is that a function of where you're trapping? Or what they're eating? Or because they're bigger? Do you get a better price for those?
Great video man. I don't have any rats where I live but I'm going home to my parents house for Christmas and there are a few out that way so hoping to try catching rats. Thanks for the tips!
+330 MaNiaC I love to trap but I've been stopping my self because I don't have a certificate to and I don't know where I can get one I've asked around and nobody knows. I read somewhere in the reg. Book that ya gotta have one, any ideas?
LOVE it tks for sharing, how much is the average pelt these days, my uncle use to trap them back in the 60s, I think he would get about, $1 to $1.50, I also love the meat, by the way this was in Newfoundland Canada,
Great stuff....hopefully you eat them all or share the love.....boil rats in broth or salted water with onions for a half hour or so then coat and deep fry later....mmmmmm...or try ratBBQ...
+330 MaNiaC. Okay I inderstand, trapping animals is like playing chess with wildlife, if they win, your traps are empty. If you win, its like Christmas and you got what you wanted. I'm a meat trapper and only set 10 at a time, sometimes I get meat for 2 weeks and sometimes only 1 week. But it is always a joy to see something in my trap. God Bless my friend, may your traps be full and your misses be few. 😎👍
I learn a lot from every one of your videos. Thank you for taking time to do the filming.
Steve Sloan Thanks a lot!!!!!
incredible high def video, especially off that tripod. I feel like I'm right there with you, without the cold. Thanks for sharing.
+George Zustak Thanks for watching George!
I'm enjoying your videos. Nice to see a local guy on youtube.

Great video! you sure had a good freeze up, nice clear ice,,haven't had that here in a lot of years.
Nice catches Scotty! Putting up the numbers as usual!
I now pronounce you the muskrat king, lol great job buddy nice two day haul

Great video quality. You have some really nice light colored rats in your area. That blondish fur is really cool.
thanks Dave!

+Bob Lee thanks Bob!
How do you dispatch the live ones from the huts?
Can u explain the details on how the traps r set inside the lodge?
That camera is taking a beating ah. Nice job on the rats buddy. Marry Christmas to you and your family and all the best in the New Year.
All my admiration for you good job brother. It's seems easy but I know it's not.
Awesome video!
Thanks! Yes it is a lot of work but it pays off in the end.
Curious a s to why you do not paint the top of your stakes. easier to see and no lost expensive traps..
I have a very good memory and I often throw my stakes away
How do these traps work? I’m from the UK and never heard or seen of anything like this. What’s the hut for? Why are they frozen and what do you do with them?

330 MaNiaC ah well that’s amazing! muskrats are sold for the musk am I right? Or some eat them too?
Sayyida Al Mut'ah actually for the fur. Its used in many ways. People also do eat them but i don't.
I'd bet those rats are better tasting than backyard squirrels.
I have one by my pond (just started trapping) and the water isn't frozen I was trying to figure out where to put them in frozen weather and without frozen.
how do you make a set in a muskrat lodge? Do you just knock a hole in it and put a foothold in somewhere or how do you know where to put it? Thanks
It's so cool that you can set the huts that way. We can't do that in WI.
very nice video buddy.. I my myself am not a very good rat trapper, never took the time or effort to actually learn.. but it looks like a lot of fun.. thinking about try it next fall.. lol. great video as always
Thanks for watching Glen! I'm a horrible Coyote Trapper so don't worry we all got our strong suits lol
I'll teach you some good yote techniques if you show me some rat sets lol jk but yea I know what you're saying.
+Glen Gauthier Hey pal that sounds like a good deal to me honestly lol
awesome video. have a good merry Christmas.
How do you set the traps in their feed houses?
There is a video on how to do that in my muskrat trapping playlist
Think it would work if you put a 110 in the house instead of the #1's? Can't check as often so I wouldn't want one that didn't drown.
Steven Bentley I actually have used 110s with some success in the huts. But it has to be the right hut inside as they are all constructed differently
Some pretty fast catches thanks
How many leg holds do you normaly put in a house
+NADJIWON CRITTERCONTROL Normally just 1 unless it is a very large hut or there are 2 huts built into 1 then I might use 2 traps.
Great trapping, love the videos keep it coming. looking forward to more
Thanks!
what will you do with the fur
Sell it
@@330Maniac out of curiosity, for how much will you sell it
@@PrestigeLoft A Fur buyer usually pays about $3 a piece
@@330Maniac you really need to up the price to 20
Another great vid, I wish we could trap inside huts here
Did you build those huts or did the muskrat's
the muskrats build them by themselves each year but not always in the same spots.
You are making the "Hard Life" of a trapper, look too easy....LOL Good on Ya Bulldog
Curious because I don't know but what you do with a muskrat once you've killed it? Is the pelt worth something?
I sell the pelt and the meat also.
I wish I had permission on a place like that, until then I will live through your videos. Fingers crossed, I go tomorrow to humbly ask.
Thanks for watching!
Nice catches, you ever use a colony trap? Seems you could get quite a few that way if they are legal in Minnesota
+by bbuck2003 Yes I have in the past. I need to make more as my last bunch got ran over my a skidsteer last winter lol

i thought u werent suppossed to trap inside the muskrat lodges
John wentz legal in Minnesota
Were you hunt at
+Nathan King I'm in central minnesota
Does the lake have to be frozen to trap rats like this?
Joey Dingeldein no you can trap them in open water too
What were you looking at when you were on the house at the 19 min mark? It sounded like a vehicle pulled up. How is that pesky land owner for you?
I was trapping by a public access and a car pulled in. no more problems with him lol
330 MaNiaC ?? do you just do water trapping for beaver, muskrat and otters??? Do you also trap the other fur bearers?? I've been looking through your videos and all I see is cold water, fishing and game hunting. Thanks in advance.
I am mainly a water trapper. I do some fox and Coyote trapping but I'm not very good at catching K9s lol
hey I'm just a new trapper and haven't caught much but in my state we caint mess with their houses so any other ideas. we can set in front of the dens and do baited sets but is there anything else you now that works good.
Nope those are my go to set around huts. Baited 110's or a carrot above a foot hold on a board
Thanks and any good ideas for under ice beaver to cuz I did good till it froze with the caster mound set but now theres ice and I wanna try to do some under ice stuff
Did you use the handle of the axe as the killing weapon? Nice vid too.
+Arrowlead462 yes I do. Thanks!
Great video! Awesome quality. What type of camera setup are you using?
I use my cell phone it's the Samsung Galaxy S6. Thanks for watching!
lake?
matteo cabrini public lake
Real nice rat catches looks like a great time out their on the water line

I'm not sure. They all seem to be the same color here
@@330Maniac Gottcha. The ones I caught this year were all dark, dark brown. Those ones you caught that were gold were really pretty.
Amen, that is exactly correct, it is not all about the fur price. Although a decent fur check makes things easier:-)
Good video keep making more
New sub here and enjoy watching your vids, busy day on the old trap line today, well maybe not trap line but you know what i mean...
Great video man. I don't have any rats where I live but I'm going home to my parents house for Christmas and there are a few out that way so hoping to try catching rats. Thanks for the tips!
What area of Minnesota are ya in?
Central. Detroit lakes area

+330 MaNiaC I love to trap but I've been stopping my self because I don't have a certificate to and I don't know where I can get one I've asked around and nobody knows. I read somewhere in the reg. Book that ya gotta have one, any ideas?
+Cody Wagner yup you gotta have one. I'm not sure where to get one. I would start with your local DNR and go.from there
you caught 7 times as many rats as i did all season so far in 2 days hahaha
we got a lot of rats here if you look in the right spot. makes it way easier to catch em! thanks for watching pal.

Why not use collony traps on the runs and really smoke "em?
I enjoy trapping rats like this. Its a fun technique. I'm more about having fun sometimes than numbers. especially if my kids are involved
+330 MaNiaC 👍
