    Mazda is doing a great job with this vehicle. I see some people saying it’s outdated but tbh I prefer they are taking the approach to refine this vehicle, see what works, and perfect it so when they move to the next generation, they don’t have to try out a bunch of new stuff that may or may not work. Toyota and Honda are the masters of refining their vehicles and not revamping the vehicle entirely. They are (rightfully) praised for their reliability for a reason! Mazda is approaching this very well and the 6 holds a special place in my heart. On a side note, we love our CX-9!

    Best car that nobody buys! But seriously a great car (am an owner of a 2019 6) and can stack against the Camrys and Accords (not talking abt sales numbers of course) and best of all not too common unlike those 2 others which dominate the market. I prefer to stand out than just blend in the crowd...

      I like this car. When upgrading my car it came down to the Accord and the 6. I ultimately bought the Accord because I believe it’s better in most category. I still can’t help to look when a 6 drives past.

    I love my 2015 Mazda 6. I would like to drive the turbo but the naturally aspirated 2.5 feels very good to me at least 90% of the time and the new model looks so similar to my car that I don’t really see the need to upgrade just now. The next generation though with the RWD platform and inline 6 cylinder, I can’t wait to drive it.

      I am also the proud owner of a low mileage 2015 Mazda 6 Touring model with the 2.5 Liter direct-injected normally inspired engine ( of course the only engine choice) and I love my car!!! It's the best car I have ever owned my previous car was a 2003 Mazda 6 with the 2.3 l four and touring package.
      My present car i has Jaguar looks at a family car price , very good quality ( Though not quite up to Toyota and Honda level , Exceptional reliably, & gas mileage ( 35 on the Hwy on the average) , I have enjoyed driving it as a daily driver even though it's a non turbo yet it's driving Dynamics is quite appropriate for me.
      When I heard that the Mazda 6 was being discontinued after 2021 I almost had a fit ... And began to wonder when the time comes to replace my car what to do ?... I AM NOT A fire breathing Charger guy, ( Im 58 years young ) nor am I a SUV or Crossover loving type ( My wife owns a Kia Sorento) so I was in car enthusiast limbo until I heard rumors on the Web months ago that the 6 was going to come back !!!!. In 2023 !!!. As a RWD sports sedan with a new inline 6 option !!! I WAS ELATED to say the least and began to investigate more on this new development .
      At a time when so many cars REAL cars ( Sedans and Coupes are disappearing because of the whole Truck/SUV/ Crossover loving cult worship craze ( which I have thought was the 6 's demise) it's fantastic that Mazda Has the courge and the vision ( No pun intended) to I not only Buck the trend of killing it's sedan model BUT improve car's persona and image and completely changed it's mechanical layout to market the new car in a higher status category ... As a Near luxury Sports Sedan that is going to compete with the likes of everything from BMW to Lexus but at a much lower price point (closer than most mortals like myself) plus perhaps introducing the hybrid and electrification down the road. ... It's good times to be a Mazda fan & Owner!!!!

    A good first review. Since your focus is on Japanese and Korean cars, can you break from the norm of other reviewers and also look at the lower end models of each maker? There are buyers that are looking for information on the new Hyundai Accent, for example. While not sexy or high-performing, these lower end of the model line cars sell and it would be nice to see someone give them some love and good review for prospective buyers.

    Kirk- for many reasons:
    brilliant Video review!!
    Your pacing and timing are quick yet engaging (some folks yammer on for 60 secs about things while you give most things 10-15 secs, and then segue on. Really Nice 👍)
    Your sense of humor/wit is fun 🤩 and I like how you don’t “punch-down” when choosing your words to describe or convey your impressions. In other words most reviewers seem to complain/nitpick- flaws their way through a review. Your style is more appreciative and or neutral. Please continue that!
    Thanks for reviewing the
    Mazda 6!! I Love Mazda’s approach to Lux-Sport Semi Premium offerings. Reminds me of Acura and Audi in the best ways. “Gentlemen’s Sport Sedan” as you were saying (offers polish/refinement,
    as well as a true
    Horse-&-Rider harmony). Thanks 🙏

    Kirk, for a sedan that has been that long (since 2014) on the market it feels newer than that (figure why the rear headlights). The only fact you've forgot to include is that you can use 87 octane gas on the T-2.5, only the hp drops to 227 (keeps the 310 lb-ft torque though).
    Just imagine when Mazda gets the new I6 w/the new combustion system (you'll see the next Lexus IS made out of this same platform and probably switch the 2-row RX to RWD). This seems to be 1 generation behind Lexus, the next one you'll see Lexus made out of it, so it is assured they'll catch up.
    You're getting up there in your reviews (the "nap thing" being a better substitute for Doug DeMuro's "try to fit into this teeny small rear seat" schtick he tries to imitate Jeremy Clarkson on). KEEP THE GOOD WORK, KIRK!

    • @KirkKreifels

    • @syxepop
      @syxepop 4 роки тому

      @@KirkKreifels - Kirk, I'm suspecting those low 7's in 0-60 might've been in 87 octane. I've Googled 6.4s 0-60 for a 6 Turbo w/full 93 octane.
      But that's great if it happened as I think no reviewer may have thrown in 87 octane gas when evaluating any Mazda model with the T-2.5L.

      @@AdamSmith-gs2dv Not at all true. Mazda along with all the other japanese companies had reliability that put american cars to shame. That is exactly why ford bought a primary ownership stake in mazda during that time. Ford stuck mazda engines in almost all their vehicles to gain reliability. Over the course of fords ownership they became very familiar with the engines and technology. And to this day most of the engines ford has in use would not exist without mazda. Ford did not invent "ecoboost" it is entirely stolen technology from the early mazdaspeed 6 and mazdaspeed 3. Mazdas are and have always been great.

      @@AdamSmith-gs2dv It was actually the other way around. Ford bought up Mazda just to steal all the tech. The only Ford part that ended up on Mazda vehicles was stupid stuff like brakes, sway bars, and other basic components. Ford on the other hand literally stole their "ecoboost" tech directly from Mazda. The mazdaspeed 3 and 6 used direct injected turbos before and Ford. They stole the best tech then sold off their ownership in Mazda.

    Still waiting for the wagon/shooting brake version. I have a Mazda3 and basically the automatic (D mode) is the eco mode. It shifts the car so that you save gas. If you really want to keep at a higher rpm you need to put it in (M mode). If I do I would keep it at around 3000 to 4500 rpm since it has the peak torque there. Never redline it though. And driving a Mazda3 in M mode in Shenandoah National Park is one of the lifetime experience. Trust me.

    Great job on the review Kirk. On a side note, do you use auto exposure for your videos or are you setting the camera to a fixed exposure?
    I have noticed that as the light changes your videos also change the exposure. There were many times in the video where you looking way underexposed and then other times when you were way overexposed and it makes your skin look kind of pasty.
    Try Auto exposure with auto ISO. I know film makers will always swear this is sacrilege but they control their lighting so they don’t experience this problem.

    No relation to the subject of this review, but Lexus snuck in the 2021 model year RC F on their website yesterday with no fanfare. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, heated electrochromic exterior mirrors, and a memory driver’s seat which were before "available" are now standard. Additionally, Intuitive Parking Assist is now included in the Premium Package. It appears maybe a slight redesign of the steering wheel trim? And now finally equipped with Android Auto the base price jumped almost a $1,000 from last years model. But because of the shuffle of features, a 2021 Premium Package Build comes out only 3 or 4 hundred dollars more than a 2020 with the same equipment. Looking forward to test driving a 2021 RC F.

    Great review. The styling is epic. One thing that is'nt epic is the info screen
    that sticks up out of the dash . They could have integrated the screen INTO
    the dash but they did'nt bother. It's a little disapointing.

    You must use 93 octane to really wake this engine up in the upper rev range. Mazda published the power curves using 87 verse 93 and it makes a big difference in the upper rev range to use that extra octane.

    • @KirkKreifels
      @KirkKreifels  4 роки тому

      Since I didn't fill this tank, I'm not sure what octane was in there...87 would be my guess

    Did you try it on 87 Octane gas? Just curious how much performance you lose.

    • @paulh6517
      @paulh6517 4 роки тому +1

      That depends on the weather conditions. In the CX-9 it is not noticeable especially in cooler months. In the hot summer months you may see a slight decrease due to heat through the intercooler. Oh, on regular its 227hp and 310 torque lbs.

    What’s really odd here in Ny is the availability of Mazda dealers. If you find one they usually share it jointly with another . And they get the dark corner of it. They don’t put money into dealerships around here, that’s for sure .

    Mazda 6 is still harshly bumpy then 😄 Travelling in the back seat on multi-hundred km road trips is not recommended. Sorry Mazda, the cabin quietness is impressive, as is the minimal body roll and resulting stability on the road, but from experience I can say that the Mazda 6 is not a comfortable car for long journeys 😄 Hopefully Mazda will fix this with the next platform redesign

    With all due respect would people stop referring to Mazdas move upmarket as luxury. Never has this been uttered by Mazda and this incorrectly denotes what Mazda is trying to do. Premium folks Premium not Luxury is where they are heading.
    Premium brands on the other hand, are defined by their price-quality ratio - we feel that it is worth paying extra for a premium brand because of the product quality, whereas luxury brands usually have a price which is far beyond their actual functional value.
