Protip from a seamstress that also makes bellydance costumes: if you sew through sequence, install a thick leather needle. Only broke two of those on six full costumes. ;)
@ohlawdhecomin305 Yeah? Never said she did. Standard needles do break on sequence too. She even mentions that herself too, so I don't see the point of your response.
Genuinely consider this for your next convention because that dress is stunning, you can always redo the pauldrons- but that dress is absolutely magnificent Also you’re not lazy, this takes hours of hard work- give yourself a little more credit, you’re doing the best you can with the time you have ❤
I’m a carpenter/woodworker guy but I love watching someone make and follow a plan. That was impressive work. I was actually thinking about some coated stiff wire would make ok boning. I’m sure this is the first time I’ve thought about boning since home economics class. I credit home economics with my success as a modern old man. I’m sad that the class isn’t offered as much as it was in the 80s.
you can also use a hammer on those glass beads in the seam allowance and just crunch through them so you can sew. that way you arent trimming threads and risking losing a whole strand of sequins or beads if something comes loose
@@ghostsprobablyif you put the fabric with the beads facing down (or cover them), the shards will be contained. Then I'd suggest vacuuming it or carefully shaking it outside to get rid of the glass.
@@ghostsprobably Yeah that’s what I feel. I would be freaked out. I don’t think I could ever take the risk of smashing up glass like that. I’d probably end up stepping on glass shards or getting them in my food or something. 😅
Girl please stop saying you were being lazy. Nothing you did was you belong lazy. We all know this took hours and hours and lots of planning and work. I couldn’t sew with a sewing machine to save my life. This is so stunningly beautiful you did amazing work!
I love shining nikki and haven’t played it for the last few years because of time, but as soon as you showed the dress i was like “IS THAT SHINING NIKKI??” You did so good!!! It’s awesome to see a model dress come to life and I’m sure the devs for the game loved to see their creation irl as well ❤❤
i've seen angela clayton use a tiny hammer to carefully smash any glass beads in her seam allowances (and i think her industrial machine sews through sequins). so if you want a fast way to do it, even though you'll have to wear glasses (safety first!) and clean up a bunch of bead bits, the tiny-hammer approach may be for you.
I don’t play Shining Nikki, but I do play its predecessor, Love Nikki. And after seeing [Star Sea] made into a real outfit, I really wanted to see more suits as real clothes. So hearing my favorite cosplayer got paid to make a suit just made my heart burst with joy.
Hey, I'm exactly the same 😃 Playing Love Nikki for years now but not Shining Nikki, I also saw the Star Sea dress and at one point it's me that I want to try and make one or two outfits from the game😊
I am a huge fan of Shining Nikki!!! Been playing for two whole years!!! I'm so glad other people are discovering and appreciating the game!!! And I think you should totally try Vulture's "Decadent Night" design! It's pretty intricate but Vulture is my all-time favorite designer so I would love to see it!!! You did such a good job on this, it looks amazing and when I saw your channel on the Shining Nikki channel I immediately came here and subscribed!!
i'm a shining nikki player and i wasn't familiar with your channel before, but i am SO GLAD this "collab" brought me here. your vibes are super fun and your work is incredible. subscribed without a second thought!!!
Featherweight boning is GREAT for dresses with sleeves or straps. It helps smooth out any unflattering folds or bunching without being so structured as so to make the sleeves look weird. I've never needed it for this, but I've also heard that putting it in the side seam of a pencil skirt can be useful to keep it from riding up, if you have that issue.
I’ve never played shining Nikki but I’ve been a love Nikki player for years and it’s so rare to see cosplays from this franchise! I think you did a wonderful job with this collaboration ❤
Not Sarah calling me out when I definitely used that sew through boning on a strapless dress (Dawn from pokemon)... :') My saving grace is I have A cups and the pattern was drafted excellently by Indigo Jinjo patterns but YEAH I was definitely playing with fire there unknowingly lol
I have been playing for 3 years, I’m so happy that you got sponsored!!! You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs, and Shining Nikki is one of my favorite games!!! I love the dress, and I watched the video that they showed on the live stream. I was watching it and saw you talking about making the dress and I was like 😧😆
Its a fun game!! This suit is a purple UR set. Which means its like super special. But also near impossible to get unless you pay for diamonds. But the story for this event is so so good
I used to play Nikki when I had time to play with apps on my phone, it was awesome seeing you make something from it. Also, I love the color of your hair!
I love this game but I love how you made it. Thank you so much for doing this. You really helped proving that making this or any other of the other ones possible! 1:48
This is so cool. As someone who has absolutely positively NO KNOWLEDGE of sewing, fabrics and not a very good fashion sense. But I am interested in like every hobby ever, so this is VERY cool to watch, cause you always make really pretty dresses. Maybe I’ll branch out to other cosplay fashion creators, but for now I’m sticking with u
I know the point of featherlight boning! You can use it to make spiky bony structures like the fins of a dead fish, which you plan to wear for the neck of your sea-witch costume
8:00 Holy cow, I'd never expect a costume making channel to give me PTSD flashbacks on how to apply textures to models in Blender... but here I am, I guess. The fact you have to line up the pieces of the dress with the sequence direction in order for the dress to look right with the orientation of the patterns all the way around is so similar to trying to line up UVs in Blender to match the model your texturing... sorry for the Blender nerd dump. =P
OMG You genuinely had me SQUEALING when I saw this!! Im a massive fan of you AND shining nikki, and You actually got me into trying to make some of the dresses I love from the game! I am SO in love with this thank you!!!!! This was a dream!!!
came here from the shining nikki livestream and fully enjoyed watching your whole video! it turned out super beautiful and I'm so impressed by your work keep it up!
Forgive me if this is already in these comments but spiral steel boning is really easy to cut! You snip each of the cords of spiral steel separately and then wrap the tips in that white plumbing tape. Suuuuper easy.
Since you had no idea what you would recommend the featherweight boning for, I use it for mock ups! The fact that you can sew over them directly rocks, cuz y'all won't ever catch me putting in more effort than is absolutely essential for a mockup, and it's easy to work with. I also recently made a hoop skirt with featherweight boning and so far it works perfectly. It has so much give so your skirts can still easily collapse when you need them to but there's enough structure to hold up some weight. Not a crazy amount of weight, mind you, but it works perfectly well with the cosplay I'm using it for.
I've been using it for structure for things like tall DRAMATIC cape collars, hoop boning but for puffy sleeves not skirts, boning for ridiculously high-waisted pants... honestly I really agree there's a lot you can do with it lol I even read about a crafter who used it next to the zippers of tall boots to make them easier to zip up as well as helping them stand up, like the thigh high but very loose at the top piratey fantasy boots and I'm totally going to try that too xD
Wow, what a fantastic dress, sorry but there is no way you made that and can say you are lazy. I've made simple cosplay for my daughter and that took me days to make, your level of difficulty is amazing. You are amazing ❤
Wow that’s such a cute dress!! Some parts don’t really match up to the actual in game, (namely the choker isn’t nearly as detailed). But you only had two months so I think you did a amazing job!
