      @@luvy7710There are lots of articles and videos from therapists about their exploitative business practices, but to what the comment is referring you don't have to be a licenced therapist to join as one. Every time I see a betterhelp ad I cry. I’m not the first person to mention this and I certainly won’t be the last but there are hundreds upon hundreds of reported incidents of betterhelp 1) selling user information 2) actively exploiting their userbase, especially queer users and 3) having non-licensed therapists in their system, which is illegal. I know that they offer a ton of money for their sponsors, but please do the research into the brand you’re advertising before accepting the money. It makes me so upset to see this especially since you’re one of my favorite youtubers.

The youtuber Micky Atkins has done several videos on betterhelp (i believe that they had to take some of them down for legal threats made by betterhelp and their lawyers) they address the situation with a lot of nuance and compassion. The reason why I believe they printed the gingham was because you can’t get real gingham in a stretch fabric it needs to be printed on and this is a stretchy costume made to fit a range of sizes and not custom made to a person’s specific measurements.

    • @saphiwrath
      @saphiwrath 9 місяців тому +12

      That might be true but the gingham is only used for the scallop and that part isn't itself elastic, there's an elastic in the waistband, so I still don't see why they'd also need an elastic fabric

    • @eyesofivy
      @eyesofivy 9 місяців тому +12

      @@saphiwrath if you sew a non stretch fabric into a stretch waist band you’ll remove stretch from that area or as the waist band stretches and the gingham doesn’t stitches will pop, otherwise they have to do some gathering and that is additional time and skill going into a garment that is attempting to be made as cheaply as possible.

      @@eyesofivy I own one of these premade (I think from the exact same seller) and the gingham/skirt fabrics are the same as the rest of the costume which are most definitely NOT stretch. • @sharktoothjack8854
      @sharktoothjack8854 9 місяців тому +5

      Another possible reason is that, for a factory, it would be a pain to keep inventory and buy wholesale quantities of gingham fabric just for the one small piece of the one product. *Tip for fabric shopping:* Shop Deadstock!!! It is so so so much cheaper. Basically if companies have fabric left at the end of a season they get sold to deadstock places and then sold for cheap, basically thrifting for fabric but pre curated. Especially if you just want basic plain fabrics (like no complicated print) like a nice cotton sateen or velvet or mesh or whatever this is a great option and really minimises the cost of your cosplay. I think for my current cosplay I have bought in total 15mx140cm of different fabrics (satin, iron on interfacing, cotton twill etc.) and payed I think around 35£ in total, which is very affordable. I’m pretty sure that there are also deadstock online shops but I just go to the store in my Area. It’s a very valuable tip I learned at fashion school, never pay full price for fabric when you have other options.

The first is pretty much that, you should test it yourself and enjoy it. However, when endorsing it to a wider audience, you also have the responsibility of researching the product - not just the wider public's opinions on it, but educated opinions as to whether the product/company is good from a professional standpoint. It's not even sufficient to just scan over other's reviews, but instead you should be looking at people who know what they're talking about (for example, tech reviewers/audiophiles for Raycons). My councilor was very helpful, she helped me figure out I was trans, switch out a bad job, process some trauma from homelessness and a dying in law. Very helpful during one of the worst times of my and my husbands life. I definitely understand people having issues with the company, my sister in law had a poor experience working as a counselor for them. I didn’t realize they had such a bad rap other than working for them, as a healthcare employee myself honestly finding a good job is harder than a bad one so that wasn’t as surprising. I will say if your looking for a physician who specializes in psychiatry versus a lscw which has a masters degree in working with patients through psych issues that would likely not be what you’re looking for even outside of this service. Similar to physicians, ARNPs and PAs there are differences in their degrees and legal scopes if you have needs outside of talk therapy, rehab etc.

It's similar to a very tight almost satin-stitch esque looking overlock stitch, and some sergers have that function. But what this costume seems to have is just a smaller over lock instead which definitely isn't the same look. Likely the company that made this uses industrial overlockers which don't have this function and they likely do not have a separate marrow-hemming machine. So I totally get what they are going for, but its basically a cheaper version of a marrow hem.

    To be fair, it's not THAT expensive though factoring in the costs of materials and hours spent ( + trials and errors, learning redoing maybe rebuying materials if a person wasnt experienced/still learning) to make it on your own it would still be worth the price
    We tend to downplay how much our handmade cosplays cost us since we never factor in how much our time would cost making it, especially when sewing isn't a forte

    This was super fun! It would be neat to see more videos like this were you assess the quality of commercially manufactured costumes. It would even be extra interesting to compare different versions of the same costume from different price ranges to see if the higher or lower cost correspond to more or less quality. ✨

    as someone who has already been cosplaying for 3+ years and started sewing like 6 months ago, yes!!!!!!!!! sewing sometimes may not make it cheaper but 100% more make you have a more outstanding and well made costume (even if you dont know really what you are doing like me lol), not only the perfect fit for your body but honestly just being able to choose which materials to use give it such a better look. i recently just finished sewing my costume for shu itsuki from ensemble stars, which was SUCH A BIG challenge for me as a begginer, i worked on it for like two months, im now so proud of myself and of this result, its like the best feeling ever when people come up to me to ask where i bought my shu and im like "hehehe... i did it myself..."
    and honestly im saying all of this because i really want to thank you sarah!!!!!!! not only are you a big inspiration for me as an artist and cosplayer bc truly i admire your work SO MUCH but also your corset video saved me while doing this costume, seriously, thank you, finding your videos making the kokomi cosplay months ago really was a motivation for me to start sewing and this has been now such a passion that i want to pursue in my life.

    Even though I know I won’t incorporate all of it bc I’m not trying to win a contest. I’m just trying to drag a deeply impractical Persona demon into the real world. And my serged edges won’t ruin the look or my sense of accomplishment ^w^

    The chances of big companies stealing your patterns are actually higher if you are a small creator because then they think they can push you around more easily and if you speak up they can just say that they didn't even know you existed. It's way harder to steal stuff from people with a large following.

    I made Tera from kingdom hearts for my husband because I was not paying more than I paid for aqua for some thing I figured I could make easily a gray turtleneck cut the arms down to short sleeves hem put an X of red ribbon shirt don't take a pair of kneepads And cut layers of foam stack them. They look just like his armor. I ended up sewing the EVA foam because it was just like really thin but the glue just wasn't holding as much as I wanted. I was just using regular glue, so I just sewed the bottom layer to the sides of the fabric backing and then just sewed each layer to the one underneath just a couple stitches but they hold together wonderfully. I hand stitched the ribbon and everything. I sewed up the center of a brown skirt and cut it and then so down the other side and made pants. They are fantastic. I don't know how I ended up making back of a pair of pants out of that skirt, but I made pleated pants. I bought the boots for both my husband couldn't wear the wig because his head is too big we bought RT blades, but Tera is an easy cosplay to make and you don't have to do it from scratch aqua has all these strips and all kinds of stuff. I don't use a sewing machine by that one. It's all a matter of the amount of work versus the amount of money, Tera is easy you can get the skirt for 20 bucks the shirt for 25 like five bucks for ribbon probably less at your local shop and then you could probably even paint on it but it was easy to do Tera an $80 cosplay for aqua versus $120 for Tera and Tera was not available most of the time and they take about a month to get to you either way but the piece is the way I made it I did the shirt in like an hour in the skirt into pants in an hour probably spent 50 or $60 on all materials so I'd say $70. I am sure I saved $50 or more on the Tera costume just making it that's including money for me getting paid like 10 bucks an hour, counting the time it took

    For a factory made costume this is very good. Yet, if you want it for a cosplay, not a Halloween costume, it is not very good. I have seen worse costumes going for more than that in the costume sections for Halloween.
