I looooooved The Argonauts. It was the sort of book where I felt she took the top of my head off, filled my brain with thoughts, popped the top back on, shook it and said ‘go and have a think about all that’. Hope you’re better soon!

I also read the Argonauts earlier this year and it’s surprisingly emotional and sensual. A brainy and beautiful book❣️

loved hearing your reflections on the argonauts and autotheory. that santa ana winds sentence is really something special.. i’ve never read it although bluets was actually central to my BFA thesis!-i’ll have to finally pick it up and give myself some time with it ❤
also really resonating with the concept of the body as a home or as parts of the body as rooms. makes me think of the installation artist do ho suh’s sheer house sculptures

@@benjaminjournal I really loved Holy the Firm and its another tiny so it's easily digestible. And I've read The Maytrees, which is kind of a quiet novel but also beautifully written.

Yes I love the Warsan Shire collection I never hear anyone talking about it I read it earlier this year. Might have to go back and do it as an audio book though if it's that good as one.

Another dear vlog, loved hearing your thoughts on The Argonauts and I completely relate to how you feel about the density and almost otherworldly intelligence being at times hard to reach, but as you touched on it really means that re-reading this kind of work is so brilliant in being able to tease out more and more each time. Also, thank you for reading out passages from the books, it's so nice to get a sense of the writing and likewise to hear what you enjoyed! x

I read The Argonauts earlier this year and had some similar feelings as you about the theory and wanting to understand everything. Your description of what you liked about it made me appreciate it more. I remember having a hard time with it, but you’re right about how raw and honest it is. There is definitely something commendable about that.

I loooooove Warsan Shire. I love finding a young poet who is already very nuanced. I am glad you enjoyed my readings of The Argonauts, I really enjoy to read things out loud. As you probably do with poetry sometimes. Big hugs!!!!!!

Been reading the argonauts for about 3 weeks now.. read it along side cleopatra and Frankenstein, I totally agree with the slow pacing as it is very dense.

That’s seems like a great paring to balance it out. How are you liking it? And with The Argonauts I think taking your time is very good. Hugs

I remember finding Harry Dodge's book "My Meteorite" in a shop shortly after reading "The Argonauts." A lovely coincidence. "The Red Parts" by MN is a fantastic blend of murder mystery and intellectualism if you're looking for a seasonal read 😉

Okay definitely The Red Parts is high on my list now! Thank you. Will be perfect for the coming season. I need to research more about Harry Dodge and his work! Hugs

Hope you feel better soon . Seems like there's a lot of stuff going round - weird bugs n stuff.Thank you for sharing your thoughts . I'm really into books about writing so will search out the Dillard. I've wanted to read Maggie Nelson for a long time but haven't been able to find one affordable. Now I am scared of all the big brain stuff too..

I also had a hard time finding a Nelson that was affordable!!!! Always they were so expensive in book shops. Finally I found something reasonable…. Definitely check out the Dillard!

The writing life is so beautiful! I was just like “yes, I am a worm on a blade of grass. “ The only other Dillard I read was Holy the Firm. Most of it went over my head but I still enjoyed it! Here’s a quote: “ The universe is illusion merely, not one speck of it real, and we are not only its victims, falling always into or smashed by a planet slung by the sun - but also its captives, bound by the mineral - made ropes of our senses. But how do we know - how do we know - that the real is there?“
