- Here is a video of a Mourning Dove family hanging out on my hop trellis. I noticed the three little birds and luckily I had my camera close. They were cleaning each other and at one point, it looked like they were kissing. As my neighbors were approaching, you can see the baby bird huddle closer to it's mother. This was a precious moment and I am very happy with this camera capture. Now we know where the phrase "lovey dovey" comes from. Enjoy!

Imagine getting preened as a human in suh a situation.
I get that your comment isn't meant to be taken too seriously, but birds don't kiss each, they do feed each other to socialize and bond though.
Just second-ing what the above commenter wrote. It certainly looks like a kiss but it's not. It's preening; a critical process of maintaining a bird's feather health. Still a gesture of love and affection regardless.
Birds need their feathers to be undamaged, properly hooked in and free of oil and debris, for weatherproofing purposes and preening is the means by which they do that.

@@marianagama4464 there are 600 million mourning doves in the continental US and an estimated 20 million are harvested every year. It isnt 1860, species dont go extinct in this country from hunting anymore.

Kid's like "Take it to the woods!" Or "Hide me, mom, hide me."
I've had a similar situation on my porch since two mourning doves decided to build their nest on it. Got to watch the whole process: firstly, the building the nest, then the two eggs and incubation period, the hatching of the eggs, the shared duties feeding the babies. Lots of cooing and chirping during feeding and grooming sessions several times a day. What an education they've been. Now the babies are growing their flying feathers and presumably are about to get some flying lessons. Lots of photos and videos of each stage of the story. Both babies hatched on May 31 --aye, on me very own birthday! I find them to be very gentle, loving beings who seem to understand and appreciate the respect I've shown to them while sharing the porch with them during the late May and June weather.
