This specific ship (TEKEL 10) was transferring 60 Iraqi illegal immigrants, with 2 Turkish traffickers, from Smyrna (Turkey) to Northern Euboea (Greece).

We're on Kefalonia at the moment, visiting some of the places you've shown us. Currently in a coffee shop in Poros.

We hope you make it to Thasos, Samothraki, and Lemnos, which are Greek Isles you never really hear much about. We're going to Greece in July, and hanging out with my super cool cousin from Athens (Pagrati), who is taking us everywhere with his great little Citroen! What an amazing hike to these remote and wild looking beaches! The cute little town, that greek salad - oh how i miss Greece! Maybe next time Skyros. Thank you for introducing it to us. The rock formation around 8:25 looks like a giant sea turtle to me. 😂
Skyros seems to be a hidden gem. Not overcrowded and with the typical charm of a Greek island, with not so explored beaches. Thanks.
80% of greek islands are like Skyros and many of them are even better, prettier etc. We leave Mykonos, Santorini,Zante, Rhodes for tourists.

Hi Gabriel, Nice to get to the beach even though the water temperature is in possibly the low sixties. The town was nice all the little gift shops and other small businesses and those Greek salads are wonderful, a nice complement to a meal.
Another great video exploring Skyros and you finally got to go in that crystal clear water, wow! I hope the jeans dried quickly haha. The town looks beautiful and peaceful. Thanks for a great tour, loved it! ❤😊✌️

Did you see the little native horses on Skyros? They are so cute and a protected breed.
No, I didn't notice any in my explorations around the island.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos They usually graze on the fields right and left of the road to the airport. They can also be found as semi-wild on the island's mountains. They are small almost like ponies but not stocky like them, they look more like mini proper horses. Maybe an example of island dwarfism.

Another great island! Since you will be in Thessaloniki Vlatadon Monastery along with the Castle area is quite interesting and as a hike from the city center

Today should be your travel day for Thessaloniki. I don’t know if you plan to rent a car and explore, but anyways here are my recommendations for your northern Greece explorations:
In the west you should definitely visit the town of Kastoria, imo the most picturesque town of west Macedonia. Then you can either go south versus Ioannina and Metsovo, or continue north versus the Prespa Lakes.
In the east you should definitely visit Kavala. It has an beautiful old town, lots of stuff to explore around the city, plus the island of Thassos is really close by. If you visit Thassos you will discover a scene *very* different than both the Cyclades and the Sporades.
Planning to visit some of those places. ✌️
Kastoria is nice, but all the Greek-Americans from Kastoria here in the states have HUUUUGE egos! They think their own SKATA doesn't stink, LOL!

Yes, I learned about that one recently but it hasn't come up for me so far. The one I used there charged me 1.90 euros, fair enough.
Good you know about it gabriel i wondered if going to northen greece are you going to visit Mount Athos.monastery located in in Northern Greece access is only from the sea and only men are allowed to visit the monastery for more than 1000 years.

Must be one of the prettiests places in the world the lovely little buildings, windy streets, cobbled stones, depicting a laid back unhurried lifestyle. A lot to be said for that.
Gabe I have never seen you eating fish what it's typical for South europeans. Try Calamaris, Octopus or Sardines on the Grill with a glass Ouzo that's awesome!

Stay hydrated people. I recommend to always carry at least a 1.5 litre of water each when you are going on a beach, especially when hiking is also included, because the access to fresh water is not a given in many cases.

Skyros looks amazing. Next time in Greece for me warrants a trip to the Sporades. Gabriel - when you're in Thessaloniki, I highly recommend seeking out the churches of Hosios David and St. Nicholas Orphanos, both in the Upper City. I predict you'll be glad you did. The former has one of the oldest early Christian wall mosaics while the latter has amazing frescoes of St. Nicholas which illustrate the Santa Claus 'origin story.'
I was expecting the ship to be older, like one of those old Pirates of the Carribean ships, but still pretty cool.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos A nefarious backstory that it was a smuggler's ship that had 60 migrants on it vs. just another regular fishing vessel or cruising craft makes the ship so much more interesting. Thanks for that.
Have you ever thought of returning to Egypt to spend some non-Schengen days? I am in Hurghada right now and it's amazing and it also feels safe, the conflicts in Israel/Palestine does not affect travel safety in Egypt. People are still friendly to us westerners. Besides the Ancient Egyptian history there is also plenty of Greek things like the city of Alexandria and many other places, the Mediterranean coast is largely unexplored by tourists. And along the Red sea there are cities like Hurghada and Marsa Alam. Visa on arrival for Americans cost 25 dollars.
Yes, I've wanted to go back to Egypt. Hurghada sounds nice and I especially want to see Alexandria and the Siwa Oasis.
Hey gabriel if you dont do it already I advise that before you leave an island or a place to search for popular attractions so that you dont miss the most important ones. Also as other people mentioned yes the temperature will rise in greece on the coming week but there will also be dust coming from Sahara. Take care.

@@elturko1128 i cant really be specific or detailed as i was actually quite drunk watching it, so i decided to stop and either rewatch entirely tonight or start from where i was up to. But he was mainly just giving his opinion and several reasons on why its curved etc. sorry i cant be more specific as im a slow typer and it would take quite a lot just to mention a few things he said.
I was also looking forward to watching it in the evening. Eratosthenes was a Greek mathematician, who while in Aswan (old spelling Assuan) calculated the correct circumference of the earth from the length of shadows during high noon more than 2000 years ago. So with Gabriel being in Greece that would have been a valid occasion talking about that subject. Maybe, when or if he returns to Egypt he will do a reprise of the subject.
(That being said, I don't know if if he talked about Eratosthenes at all.)
It wasn't doing well and too many annoying comments, so not worth my time of having to read through them all. I knew what to expect of course so it was kind of an experiment and something to discuss while exploring the island, but sometimes you decide a video is more of a time suck and headache than it's worth.

At summer, it gets very hot in the middle of the day, so we try to schedule our daily lives in such a way that we are outside during early morning or late afternoon, and stay inside in the shade during the warmest hours of the day. Because the Summer's Sun is too hot. 🔥

I have been to Greece many times, if you’re coming from a modern civilized country you will love it, especially the cute little homemade houses, the cheap little cars, lots of cool beaches but pretty much it’s all the same everywhere you go.
