Got my R7 about 3 weeks ago. It’s my first street bike, coming from the Dirt since I was a kid. The R7 is a great bike. It reminds me of a 450f Yamaha. Although I never had a 450f, I was 14 riding YZ 125 2-stroke. First service is coming up at 600 miles and I’m at 520. I took the bike up to the Canyons and it was so awesome. Learning to lean the bike is an awesome feeling.
@@sasha_ridez Yeah, if you are riding the 125 you can definitely handle the R7 once you’re 18 depending on your height. It’s not very heavy and the power isn’t overwhelming but it’s always there. Just got back from Crystal Lake canyons and wow. I’m really dialing it in and my comfort level went from a 5 to a 8 in the turns in just a month.
You don't need a tune but without one your bike will either run lean or rich, lean being the one you should worry about (Engine heating up). A tune is recommended after an exhaust install. If you just have a slip-on generally you don't need to tune your bike. Also, the O2 sensor doesn't make a difference either. The O2 sensor measures O2, its fuel that missing which leans out the mixture. If you want everything to run correctly an ecu tune is needed. Good video tho, enjoyed it!

I’m thinking about buying this bike. But I need to figure out a way to rise the clip-ons a bit and lower the pegs a bit. Let’s face it, this is a street bike, I don’t think there was any reason for Yamaha to make the ergos so aggressive.
I just bought the R7, and the suspension both front and rear are so terrible. I was scouring yt for some videos on suspension upgrade on R7, but found none. However, bumped into your channel. Just wanted to ask if you know any type of suspension that I should go for? Ohlins guys said that installing ohlins wouldn’t be worth it as the chassis of R7 is not typically of a sports bike and the naked bikes ohlins suspension wouldn’t do any good because they will squish too soon while applying the front break . So, spending on ohlins wouldn’t be worth it. I was wondering if I can ever get an upgrade. The suspension in the bike feels like I’m on a yo yo ball. Or is it just me
To be honest I’m not great with suspension. I am terrible at setting it up, have you tried setting it up or paying someone to set it up for you? I know mine needs work especially the forks my rebound is really harsh and is making my front tire cup.
@@ScoutsOut yes, I tried, everyday. And paid a couple of guys to do it for me. The problem is in the substandard springs in the front forks. I checked on the revzilla site, they’ve got only rear suspension. But this bike and it’s engine and ergos are so good that if I could upgrade the suspension, this will be the only bike I’ll ride till become a cripple old man.
People in my country love those mirrors and pay 300$ less to get a fake replica on theirs R6s, have to say in your vid those Rizoma did look a lot better though
Your first mod should be a suspension setup to your weight. How much fork and shock travel are you using? I guarantee the front is spongy and the rebound is too fast causing the forks to pogo. Exhausts, mirrors, lights etc don't optimize the handling of the motorcycle. God gave you adjustable suspension for a reason. Use it.
Yup suspension is not set up for my weight it’s totally spongy and got to learn that for sure on the tack a few weekends ago, sadly vid not in order of priority just the upgrades I liked the most

I'm looking into exhausts for this bike, and all the ones that sound good are "race only" and "not intended for street use". I'm afraid to get one and get pulled over and get a ticket plus have to replace it. What is your experience with the Yoshimura?
I guess it depends on the state, city, country you live in. We still do t have to get smogged so being pulled over and cited by a dbag is always possible. From my experience and where I live, police have better things to do
once I got my R7 I'll definitely do the same..:) btw do you have future plans for aftermarket adjustable levers? I'm planning to change mine since the stock levers are not friendly for short fingers like mine..hehehe
Right on yea I’m loving the mods I’ve put on the bike. I did just get levers finally and that’s going to be next weeks vid. The levers are nice but I can’t recommend them as I had to modify them to get them to work. At least companies are starting to finally make them though

Haha small world, loads of fun back roads out here
I’m thinking about buying this bike. But I need to figure out a way to rise the clip-ons a bit and lower the pegs a bit.
Let’s face it, this is a street bike, I don’t think there was any reason for Yamaha to make the ergos so aggressive.
Woodcraft clip-on risers 50mm clamp would raise the bars. Woodcraft rearsets might lower and bring forward the foot position a little
I mean why not just get a mt07? It looks dope and is a very nice street bike. Playful and powerful for the street.
@@rubberduckyy5098 the MT07 has bad brakes, suspension I like some fairing for the highway.
Weird, I’m sure there are good options out there for the bike. They are used in MotoAmerica and you know those guys aren’t running stock suspension
People in my country love those mirrors and pay 300$ less to get a fake replica on theirs R6s, have to say in your vid those Rizoma did look a lot better though
Yea for sure, I was looked at a set on eBay but I really like these rizomas
I don’t think there is an auto blipper for the R7. It has a traditional cable throttle.
Good call man I don’t know what I was thinking, after quite a bit of research it looks like you technically can but they look a little sketchy.
Use it.
Yup suspension is not set up for my weight it’s totally spongy and got to learn that for sure on the tack a few weekends ago, sadly vid not in order of priority just the upgrades I liked the most
That’s interesting would you give me a list of priorities for mods I’m picking my r7 up in 30 days
@@cameronjames9534 1 Watch Dave Moss Tuning series of videos on the bike beginning with this one ua-cam.com/video/cHmMf2zCtyM/v-deo.html. Some of his videos are premium, totally worth the $10 for a month to watch them. 2 Either learn how to properly adjust your suspension setup (via Moss website) or pay Moss for his remote tuning session. Here's a free video about that service ua-cam.com/video/sl4Ji_c-8L0/v-deo.html. Process applies to street and/or track. 3 Change the fork oil to 20w, any brand (Moss uses Maxima). The stock fork oil is too thin. Fork oil "Dump and Run" how-to videos on Moss UA-cam channel and website. 4 Ergonomics. Adjust all the stock controls (bars, levers, pegs, shifter) as best you can for now. Here is a free video about the process in general ua-cam.com/video/47YG4dAwOIM/v-deo.html. The R7 ergos video will show you the problems with the stock bits. Purchase aftermarket controls (bars, levers, rearsets) asap. 5 If you're over 200 lbs you'll need to respring the forks and the shock. The shock is fine otherwise unless you can ride at knee down speeds, then you'll need an aftermarket or surrogate shock soon. You can learn all about how to do this on the Moss website, or pay him for a remote tuning session.
Are the mirrors legal in germany?
I’m not sure man sry
I'm looking into exhausts for this bike, and all the ones that sound good are "race only" and "not intended for street use". I'm afraid to get one and get pulled over and get a ticket plus have to replace it. What is your experience with the Yoshimura?
I guess it depends on the state, city, country you live in. We still do t have to get smogged so being pulled over and cited by a dbag is always possible. From my experience and where I live, police have better things to do
@@ScoutsOut Yeah i suppose.
Im in the ventura area
I wouldn’t worry about it unless your reving the hell out of it every where you
@@ScoutsOut 😂😂
once I got my R7 I'll definitely do the same..:)
btw do you have future plans for aftermarket adjustable levers?
I'm planning to change mine since the stock levers are not friendly for short fingers like mine..hehehe
Right on yea I’m loving the mods I’ve put on the bike. I did just get levers finally and that’s going to be next weeks vid. The levers are nice but I can’t recommend them as I had to modify them to get them to work. At least companies are starting to finally make them though
@@ScoutsOut wow nice..looking forward to your new episodes..:)
@@ScoutsOut where should I get mine? Wait for tst?
Still nothing out that I’ve seen, but I did just see a vid from Yamaha promoting gilles who makes parts and they have a nice set of levers but I can’t find them on there site yet
@@ScoutsOut I’ll stay in tune getting mine in 30 days
Great Vid man! I was wondering if you can do a video installing a quad lock phone mount or something similar. The R7 has a different stem so Im not sure it will work
Thanks, I’ve never been one for phone mounts on a bike. Bombgardener is working a vid for that if you wanna check out his channel, he should have it out soon. If I do a phone mount it’s going to be in the inset of the fuel tank, just not sure when I’ll do it

I dunno I am looking at the yoshi but I had an SC project on my Mt07 and whilst I know that was too loud to be reasonable the yoshi just sounds so sad in comparison 😥
It’s hard to tell in video, have your heard the yosh in person?
@@ScoutsOut I have, it sounds very good just the SC project sound savage as fuck if you know what I mean. Just really raw and loud, but I do need to get a quieter exhaust and the yoshi does sound good
I know what ya mean I’ve always wanted an sc project. I remember the sound the v4 Aprilia makes it just sounds sick. I’m probly going to put one on my tuono 660
@@ScoutsOut just ordered the yoshi for my R7, not sure about where you are but race tracks have a noise limit and I can't find a baffle for the CR-T anywhere and the main reason I swapped the MT07 for the R7 was for twisties and track days

I don't think shortshifting is what you explained. At least that isn't what we call it here. We call shifting earlier "shortshifting".
Your right I know, I’ve said that in two videos. It’s just clutchless shifting, I get skater brained sometimes
@@ScoutsOut I really enjoyed the video. I went for the r-racer screen by puig. Totally agree with your recommendations.
@@tobiassergeant4852 awesome thanks man
"Short shifting is basically coming off the throttle shifting and then getting back on the throttle"
No, that is not short shifting. Short shifting is shifting lower in the RPM's than you'd normally shift.
