My kids used to struggle so hard with it. Not fun. I have been told to prep, pets and kids that the week before you start shifting everything by 15 minutes until DLS.
Yes, please do the non-fiction challenge again next year. You are the booktuber I go to for non-fiction recommendations, so I need you to keep reading them so I’ll know what’s good.
I am thinking way too far ahead here but you mentioning Elena Knows makes me want to say… I hope you participate in Women in Translation month next year! Think it will be a good vlog.
I am sick this week and was so excited to see your notification pop up. You are far and away my favorite booktuber. I vote for more cozy vogs where you read things you are super excited about.
Im sorry you’re not feeling well!! I’m kinda doing that for the next vlog… was it successful? I enjoyed myself but didn’t read much lo I forgot how much time it takes to film and edit to post everything with days 😂
@BookswithEmilyFox I honestly don't know how you do it. Props! I have enjoyed vlogs with just one book as much as ones with many books. 😊 And thank you. I think I have the flu. 😢😭
Hi, Emily!! Elena Knows was a 5 stars reading to me. The author is in fact argentinian. I barely read authors from my country but I gave that book a chance and I'm really glad I did. Hope you enjoy it. 💜
I am so happy you started starter villain. I hope you enjoy it. My same vibe for this year's favorite so far, which is Hench. it's sci-fi and a woman uses her data analyst skills to take down superheroes.
Hench is wonderful! Finally a sequel is coming out in 2026! (It was originally coming out 2025 but has been pushed back. But hey, waited 4 years, can wait 16 months more.)
You should try Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood. It’s a small town murder mystery, and the main character is an old lady who drinks whisky, writes crosswords, and swims naked in the Thames.
I did this tag two weeks ago, and I'm currently reading one of the books I named as my most anticipated releases for the end of the year (Fury of The Gods). I'm also super excited about Heavenly Tyrant (which will be released at the end of December). I really focused on keeping up-to-date with series I already started and reading already finished series this year. So, I finished a lot of series this year, and I think I'll allow myself to start a few new unfinished series next year.
I just bought They Never Learn so I'd be curious to know how you like it if you decide to read it soon! Daughter of Mine was a 3 star for me but I read Elena Knows in Spanish and enjoyed it. I assume the English translation is just as good lol
Hi Emily, thank you for all your videos - especially around this time o year when I really enjoy waking up in the dark to a nice video. Completely non-bookish questions : Where is the cardigan from? It's beautiful.
Omg the end-of-year videos! Tbh i'm also kinda slumpy, i dont know what else to pick so i just did a last minute purchase of a couple of short things i wanted to try to mix in with the TBR books i've had lying arround for years. I'm concidering going a bit without reading as much just as a palate cleanser/ break before the holidays 😅
I'm hoping to read these books by the end of the year, if depression and the holidays allow it 🙂 Creation Lake - Rachel Kushner The Stranger Besides me - Ann Rule God of the Woods - Liz Moore Last Days - Adam Nevill Lady Macbeth - Ava Reid The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
If you want some witch books I recommend In the Shadow Garden by Liz Parker, Witch of Wild Things by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland, The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco, Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young, and The Graces by Laure Eve. These are all really good witch books I think you should try.
Honestly, I could just run off with the character Gabriel Oak in Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd! Loved him. For the rest of the year, I want to read my nonfiction books-the Salt Path by Raynor Winn and Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luzenberg and I have never read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I want to see if its that much different from all the movies. My plans for winter 2025 is to read all the books showing snow depicted on the book covers. I wanted to read on my Kindle the translated Swedish book Stolen by Ann-Helen Laestadius this year but didn't have time. I will read it in January 2025. And also for the winter, I will read mysteries and maybe some deeper topics in non-fiction and maybe thicker fiction too. I have quite a few read books to donate to my library before their April 2025 public sale which will clear spaces for more books from their sale for me.
Fingersmith is fantastic. If you want to, there's a movie you can see after you read it starring Sally Hawkins, which, likewise, is phenomenal. Curious to see how you like it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Clarice Lispector someday… I’m obsessed with her! Maybe you should start with “Agua Viva”, “The Hour of the Star” and “The Passion According to G.H.”
Wind and Truth is definitely my (almost) guaranteed 5 stars of the year but I do have a couple of other hopefuls, starting with L'amica geniale d'Elena Ferrante (!!). I've heard you rave about the series for years but wanted to be able to read it in Italian so I kept postponing it and only started it a couple days ago (I have the French version too to help with the trickiest passages!).
Definitely keep me posted! I've heard a lot of it is in dialect (same with the tv show) so getting the french version as a backup sounds like a good idea!
Elena Knows is really good but it’s more quiet / vibes than murder mystery. Just to help set expectations. And for 5 star hopefuls this year - I just started My Brilliant Friend 👀👀 if that’s doesn’t do it though I have How High We Go In The Dark on my short list 🤞
I've read 5 of his adult fantasy books and rated them all 4 or 5 stars! I would say give Warbreaker a try. It's a standalone (for now at least) and it captures his writing style pretty well.
UA-cam channel Benjamin Mcevoy just did video on how to read Madding crowd...maybe good idea to watch after you read the book to deepen your understanding, otherwise spoilers. Cheers😊
Far From The Madding Crowd reminds me of school English literature class. Back then I just couldnt get into, probably because it was forced reading, but kind of put me off reading classics.
I gave up on Liane Moriarty. I read Big Little Lies, banger 5 ⭐️. Then The Husband’s Secret was okay, B- 3.5 ⭐️. And finally Nine Perfect Strangers - should have DNF’d. I feel like her writing became more and more not for me. I will give one more book a shot, but they’re like 500 pages… and I have big book fear 😮
There are a couple nonfiction I want to get to befor the year ends. -Sharing Space by Cady Coleman (irl astronaut woman) -Men Who H*te Women (overloaded with that irl in the US rn)
For general stats? I only really use Goodreads. I tried storygraph twice and couldn’t get into it. Otherwise I have an excel sheet. I need to make my own at this point so it will fit all my needs better!
Random question, but will there be a third book in the V.E. Schwab Villains series? I thought it was going to be titled Victorious? But now it’s not gonna happen?
It’s been on my GR TBR since December 2019! Still nothing but a title-not even cover art yet! I’ve forgotten so much about the first two books since then; only remember how much I loved them and couldn’t wait to read the third book.
I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I didn't care for Far from the Madding Crowd, and it's because of the characters. I could not stand the main female. No one has any sense except Oak, and even then I question his taste in women 😜
What’s the last book you think you’ll give 5 star to this year?
I am going to start Mistborn before January and hope it will be five stars for me.
Oh gosh yes!! We have 4 cats and 2 kittens. It's hard to get a good night sleep. Hoping the kittens will grow out of their craziness. 😊
“Dial A for Aunties”! I finished this whole series. I love the aunties. 😂
Monstrilio
My brilliant friend I’m hoping!
Anybody else dealing with pets that don’t understand daylight saving time and are making you pay for it? 😂🐈⬛
My kids used to struggle so hard with it. Not fun. I have been told to prep, pets and kids that the week before you start shifting everything by 15 minutes until DLS.
Kids and pets. My 3 year old now wakes up at 4am.😫
Yes!! the struggle is real lol🐶
Yes!! Those of us with pets do not get an extra hour of sleep.
Yessss my cat is staring at me right now 😂
Yes, please do the non-fiction challenge again next year. You are the booktuber I go to for non-fiction recommendations, so I need you to keep reading them so I’ll know what’s good.
I always give books 10 chapters or 100 pages. If I'm not feeling it by then I will donate it to a little free library
Yeah, same. I want to at least give the book a fair chance before I give up 😅
Just noticed the ghosts hanging on your shelves. So cute! ❤
They are. Keep the spooky vibes a little bit longer
I decorated so late this year. I need to put them up earlier next time!
I thought Elena Knows was INCREDIBLE!!! The writing style was so different and it really reflected what the story was about, and it was so sad 😭
I love your make up in this video , especially the blush and lip gloss ❤❤❤
Thank you! Funnily enough, it’s the same makeup I usually wear. The only thing that changed is the lighting… lighting really is everything lol
I am thinking way too far ahead here but you mentioning Elena Knows makes me want to say… I hope you participate in Women in Translation month next year! Think it will be a good vlog.
Ooo yeah I would love to watch that vlog too!
I'm old and way beyond caring about makeup and stuff, but that lipstick is the most perfect color for you!

Both Elena knows and The lost daughter are beautiful books!
I want to finish or catch up on 10 series too. That sounds like a fantastic plan!

There's a wonderful movie of Fingersmith.

Got excited when this notification popped up .
Excited to hear the review for Elena Knows. I have a feeling you will like it.
thank you and i love your channel, helps me know more about good books
A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping is on my future TBR list.
I'm happy to see Fingersmith 💜 I hope you'll like it

Elena Knows is SO GOOD

The Lost Daughter - Elena Ferrante is 5 stars. All day long.
My tbr before the end of year:
A sky beyond storm
Quendel
Victory of eagles
Elena Knows is really good but it’s more quiet / vibes than murder mystery. Just to help set expectations.
And for 5 star hopefuls this year - I just started My Brilliant Friend 👀👀 if that’s doesn’t do it though I have How High We Go In The Dark on my short list 🤞
Have you listened to a John Scalzi book yet? Will Wheaton narrates them, and he does a great job!
good video yet again, thank you love ❤️
Have you thought of doing a challenge with a color wheel to pick your books ?
Original creator for the tag: Ariel Bissett
Hope you have a great end of the year! 🎉
yes pls to more nonfiction!
So is Brandon Sanderson any good? I see him everywhere now
He is! I did a guide video all about his books ua-cam.com/video/593aBO14B5o/v-deo.html
YEEES his world building is just impeccable
@@BookswithEmilyFox OK he goes on the list. The never ending list, more of a notebook

Yes! The Color Purple is great. You may need kleenex
Yes! I love the book and the movie.
Have you tried different apps for your stats? Do you have a favourite ?

@BookswithEmilyFox merciiii !!
hiya i need u to do another drunk vlog i thought it was so funny 😅😅😅
Random question, but will there be a third book in the V.E. Schwab Villains series? I thought it was going to be titled Victorious? But now it’s not gonna happen?
Is it not? I haven’t heard anything
I think she is writting it ? She made a post about Victor Vale this summer on her Instagram ! 🤞
It’s been on my GR TBR since December 2019! Still nothing but a title-not even cover art yet! I’ve forgotten so much about the first two books since then; only remember how much I loved them and couldn’t wait to read the third book.
She's currently writing it according to her newsletter! Had like 20k words a month or two ago.
