Do you think it would be possible for hydrates to cause such catastrophic failures or would the dehydration process prevent such events? Also could deliberate hydration or shutting down of the dehydration plants be a way to sabotage the pipeline?

you can pump through your line glycol, methanol and k-formate to prevent and reduces hydrate formation.
