    I am a beginner and just REALLY love your tutorials. You have a soothing voice and listening to you is a pleasure. You also speak slowly enough for even a beginner to catch what you are saying; not speeding through something that might be 2nd hand to experienced sewists. The other thing I really like is the camera angles for your videos. They not only show the big picture, they also show what you are doing close-up. This nice combination is very helpful. Some sewing videos are all too close, making it difficult to see what piece is being worked on, while some others are all too far, where we don't have the foggiest at what the seamstress is doing. However, yours are not like that. they are a great mixture. Thank you for taking your time with what you are showing us. You are a good teacher. Please keep them coming! Have a great day.

    I found you by accident and I'm so glad I did. I've subscribed. Your videos are simply to understand, very clear instructions and as a novice I appreciate all the points that you make that might be obvious to experienced sewers, bookmarked. I made the Mobius apron, wasn't perfect and I'll pop over to that video to comment where I came unstuck. Thanks for sharing the videos.

    What type of fabric do you recommend? I know you said quilted but I’m a beginner so I’m not sure if I can just go to the fabric store and say that and get what you have here lol. Also it looks like felt/fleece on the back, is that right?

    • @TheCraftsChannel
      @TheCraftsChannel  3 роки тому

      Hiya, the one I actually make in the demo is 100% woven cotton on the back and 100% upholstery weight cotton on the front. The two I show at the beginning; one is 100% woven cotton that has been pre-quilted with a layer of cotton wadding backing and the other is 100% knitted jersey cotton that's been quilted. Both are backed with woven cotton. The quilting makes the bib more absorbent but two layers of ordinary 100% cotton should be good enough for most messy kids if they're just dropping damp food. Hope this helps, but I'm sure your local fabric shop would be able to advise you if not, c x

    I am wondering how long to make the ties?

    • @TheCraftsChannel
      @TheCraftsChannel  5 років тому

      The ties don't really take that long but they can be fiddly to turn the right way out and we didn't think anyone would want to watch two minutes of me struggling with a piping turner! c x

    • @anneniesen8653
      @anneniesen8653 5 років тому +2

      @@TheCraftsChannel Actually, I was wondering what the measurement for the ties would be? I am also wondering if it would work to enclose the ties into the apron (while you are pinning the 2 fabrics together, having the ties butting up to the edge, but enclosed in the middle of the fabrics) so that when you turn them the ties are fastened and actually stitched into the seam. Cute pattern.

    • @TheCraftsChannel
      @TheCraftsChannel  5 років тому +2

      @@anneniesen8653 Ha ha, I am such an idiot! From memory the ties are around 35cm long. You don't want them too long or they'll just fidget around the back of the neck. Yes, it does work if you stitch them between the layers as you sew around the edge. That was the intention when I did the prep work but I got so carried away when filming I completely forgot! c x

    I’m not particularly good with a small seam allowance so next time I’ll try two pencils side by side with an elastic band then draw round the template to give me a better chance. Not a criticism it’s me that’s not terribly good.

    Hi ...stumbled onto your channel because I am making baby gifts for my friends who have become grannies. Fell in love with your apron! 😍
    I understand that this is for 2-6 month old baby , and I want to make cloth straps as all stores have been closed since April 8 and won’t open for at least 2 more weeks.
    I don’t want to wait too long so I want to make one now .
    If I make this into tube straps, what is the length I should cut ( to make tube straps that I will use a turner to make it right sides out) ?
    Question 2 :
    How do I adjust your template for age 12 month old?
    Question 3: you’re a great designer , so may I ask if you can make a template and video for Drool Bib with waterproof backing ? I think new moms would love to have 10 -12 of Drool Bib when their babies start teething ...9 - 12 mths old .
    I read the ones in the retail ( online too) are not really 100% waterproof. They disappoint.
    The best is to make them yourself with PUL waterproof fabric used for making diapers. So ....I am ready to try , could you help by making a video for Drool Bib? As well as create the template for download ?
    Thanks so much for this video and I hope you will consider my asks.
    You’re going to make me look like a professional 😄😄😄 . I dusted off my sewing machine ( last used 25 years ago) to make face masks... now it has moved on to making baby items and crafting 😄 . It took covid to slow me down and find a way to deal with isolation.

    • @TheCraftsChannel
      @TheCraftsChannel  3 роки тому

      Hi Berniece, I can't give you an exact answer as I have no working printer at home to fiddle with the pattern! I would imagine you need to extend the shoulders by 2-3cm, as well as each side of the chest and along the bottom edge. This should be ample for a 12 month. 30-35cm straps should be long enough to tie the apron without the ends being too long and dangly.
      I'll have a think about a drool bib. The problem I can see arising is that the only way I can think they're made is with a separate 'drool catching' pocket sewn on the front, and even with waterproof fabric the stitching holes on the seam will leak. You might be able to overcome this with some kind of seam sealer like they use on tents? c x

    • @berniecelee5062
      @berniecelee5062 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheCraftsChannel : Hi Corrine , thanks for the reply!
      I will try extend 3 cm out on broad cloth ( all my old bedding has been used as drop cloth for paint...unless I find some old bedding to buy at Salvation Army second hand stores...they too are closed during lockdown).
      For Drool Bib :
      Maybe I layer : quilting cotton, fusible fleece, PUL waterproof ( as the back so dampness is not felt on the baby’s chest) . So it won’t be a reversible bib .
      Do you think this will work ?

    • @TheCraftsChannel
      @TheCraftsChannel  3 роки тому

      @@berniecelee5062 Thankfully my local Sally Army has finally reopened. I buy all my quilt backing as 100% cotton sheets too.
      I reckon the drool bib would work like that. The cotton and wadding should soak up most of the drool so it doesn't make it through the stitching, c x
