I appreciate that you use store bought items and don't make everything from scratch. It certainly makes your recipes more "doable" in my opinion. I also appreciate your "regular person" vibe. Thank you for posting.
People who "make their own water from scratch" can be irritating. Who has time to combine the hydrogen and oxygen molecules? 😂 Seriously, when I do have time I can make a wonderful pound cake from scratch. I use a weird but easy recipe from America's Test Kitchen, using a food processor to whip up the batter. Easy, simple, and good.
You could fill the holes of the scrap pieces with vanilla ice cream then into to the freezer. Would make a nice desert in itself. Or, you could save some of your white chocolate and put that into the holes! Viola... another great desert!
My mom made a poor man's petit four and we called it "jelly cake"; this is still a request from all family members. You horizontally cut the pound cake into 3rds. Spread two preserves, one on each layer (we always requested grape and strawberry, but my mom loved apricot and strawberry). Make dream whip and coat the cake. Refrigerate overnight. It's amazing!!
Thank you for showing us how to make these lovely petit fours. They look delicious and would make people feel special to enjoy at a tea party, or holiday. I like your "down to earth" decoration style, blue dots, etc. I also like how you serve tea in your music room. Not everyone has one, but can use as an example to create their own tea party atmosphere.🫖
I have enjoyed eating petit fours for all my life. My hometown bakery has made literally thousands of petit fours for as long as I can remember. This bakery has changed hands three times in my 68-year lifetime- most recently almost two years ago. The third owner doesn’t make nearly as well any of the sweet delicacies, including cakes, pies, and donuts that were made by the previous two owners. I suppose all good things eventually come to an end. I also suppose I need to try my hand at making these gorgeous and delightfully scrumptious looking petit fours that you made in this video!!! Petit fours are definitely an old-fashioned confectionery wonder that you rarely ever see nowadays-at least where I live in the south. I can remember when petit fours were a staple when entertaining in the south. I can close my eyes and remember so many wonderful occasions where these delightful little iced and decorated individual cakes adorned every refreshment table at every wedding reception, bridal or baby shower or party I ever attended!!! I just remembered that the grandmother of one of my high school friends always made petit fours and sent them to our school parties and always brought them to church socials-what a beautiful memory!!!
Kevin- Due to you fantastic way of showing how to do things like this, I was able to apply your ways of doing things and making chocolate, lemon, and white cake petit fours. I added some food color to white cake (orange) then used chocolate icing, i made some wonderful "Halloween" petit fours for my grandchildren Halloween afternoon tea party!
Ah Kevin, I well remember eating petit fours for afternoon tea on Christmas Day when I was a small child living in England, many moons ago. They were considered to be very much a treat. The family sat around the living room fire, and listened to the Queen's broadcast, while my father smoked Tom Thumb cigars. My mother embarked on many projects to prepare for our celebrations making Christmas pudding, mince pies, Christmas cake and lots of other traditional dishes. Your video brought back many happy memories. Thank you! I think I've become addicted to your channel, it provides a peaceful refuge in life. I look forward to enjoying many more of your videos, seeing more of your pets, hearing you play the piano and learning more about all your projects. Your home is a feast for the eyes, so lovingly cared for.
I am brand new here and have been binge watching Kevin these past 3 days as I am bed ridden with a horrible head cold…Somehow these videos helped cheer me up! I particularly like this video as you are using something store bought which is kind of more my speed yet you dressed them up nicely where no one would ever know the difference. Regards from Texas!
Let me say this about some of the things I notice about the execution of certain recipes, you make me realize that it doesn't have to look like the pictures in the books to be absolutely beautiful and tasty and shareable . Sometimes we do not attempt little Delicacies like this because they are intimidating as I watch your videos I noticed that Perfection is not your goal, and I'm glad because who can reach that by themselves in their own kitchen? Proof it was made with love.
I have a new tea set and was thinking of making tea sandwiches and buying deserts. Then viola, your video on tea sandwiches showed up in my feed. Then after that one, I clicked on this video. I also make a beautiful setting for my coffee and tea service when it's just me or just my husband and myself. Some think it's too much trouble. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. That these petit fours can be done in stages is terrific for me, and of course, I love that you dress for tea and have it in The Music Room.
Hello Kevin….I’m so glad you love to read comments, because I so love to watch you cook and bake. I love your mix of nostalgic dishes and special treats, such as today’s. Thank you. 💜
I love the simple ingredients that make this fancy little treat. (Thank you for including options on what to do with the scraps.) I watched the video while eating breakfast this morning, and it made me so happy! Great way to start the day. The music room is divine! It's so great that you love reading comments and actually reply/interact with your followers. Thank you for being so personable and fun! Happy Saturday!
what an eye-opener. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with people. I was always afraid of attempting this, but now I will. hi from Melbourne, Australia. Irene.
I love the little cakes. My grandma use to make them in squares covered with marzipan and a glazed icing....delicious! She used to make them in beautiful pastel colors decorated with tiny royal icing flowers.
When I saw that you were using store-bought cake I thought Yay! I liked hearing Tiger in the background. The Petit fours that I had and made before, were just cake, cut in cubes and dipped in a confectioners icing, and then decorated. These look exquisite, and I am sure taste amazing.Looking forward to making these. I love your videos. Everything is explained so clearly and not rushed. Thank you!
You are a gentle but no nonsense guy. You show us how to simply make otherwise complicated recipes for everyday! (Things I would NEVER have considered due to the “professional” complexities usually presented.) Thank you so much! 🌷
Thank you. Those look delicious. I don't do tea very often, but my best friend is a real anglophile, so it's nice to have something I can make and take to share when she decides we need to have a tea in the afternoon.
Love your show I am 68 and people around me do not entertain the way we use to. I use to have tea parties with the girls (5-8) and they really enjoyed them.
Yums- those petit fours look superb and better than commercial ones. When I was little, petit fours tasted delicious- tart raspberry or orange filling, fluffy layers and rich, tasting;; today the commercial ones seem pasty, not that flaovorful and 'artificial' to me. Yours look wonderful. Will have to try! Thank you, Kimberly
I once made petit fours from the Sara Lee pound cake and you are right, they are so good and so easy. But I was frustrated by not being able to fully cover the sides of the little cakes with icing. So I really appreciate your just not worrying about it! Sort of gives me permission to do it again and this time, call it ‘rustic!’ Love your videos.
I love to sew and sometimes it can get a little quiet. So I love to listen (and sneak a peak when I can) to your videos. Your delivery is so friendly and congenial. I feel like I have a friend with me while I sew.
Very beautiful and looks so delicious. I love petit fours… I think I will have to make these. And also, that Sara Lee pound cake is an excellent choice.😊
I bet you could take the leftovers, place them in the food processor, add a touch of frosting, softened cream cheese, more jam (or the peels), or liquor and make hand rolled cake balls or cake pops covered in chocolate. I'd be tempted to do a dark chocolate coating with sprinkles similar to venetian/rainbow cookies.
@@kevinleejacobs1364 You're welcome! If anyone tries it, I hope they report back. I'd love to hear how creative they get with the leftovers. My other idea is to cut the cake the same size as a tomato slicer (the one with multiple serrated blades), freeze the cake slightly (if needed) and slice multiple thinner layers at once. Just a thought. I don't bake sweets enough to experiment. I will keep this recipe in mind for a special occasion. Thanks!
My mother in law adores petit fours for Christmas. This year is going to be really tight, and I considered making them for her since this truly is her favorite and I don't want her to be disappointed. I bet it'll be a big hit.

I am so delighted to have found you! I so appreciate your delicious food, your love of cats! and your style. The decor in your dining room is identical to the dining room in my granddaughters' home and I will be sharing your videos with them! You set a table the way I do! and I want them to enjoy your presentation. Keep up your good work of inspiring all of us!
Haha Tiger...I thought it was our Chester🐈 Thank you for this chic, pretty recipe in your exquisite piano room. No baking too👍🏻 Those frozen pound cakes are so useful.
Out of your many videos I’ve watched, I think this is my favorite. Because the “imperfections” and store bought items used is so familiar to ordinary every day folks, thanks for sharing, enjoyed it.
A few nights ago, your tutorial on an Easy Make -Ahead Dinner Party popped up as I was browsing for interesting videos. I loved it!!! I so appreciate the simplicity, and, for me, the fact that I can actually spend time with my guests or family while still serving a thoughtful, non-boring meal. Fantastic!!. Now this video! Such great ideas and tips for someone who loves food but only recently developed an interest in cooking and entertaining. Thank you, thank you! I'll be watching your other posts!!
I love your channel! With my 4 boys, their wives and my Beautiful Grandbabies we have what we call a Tea Party whenever any of them visit ! I have special tea sets for our special time together. I recently discovered your video site and I am hooked on watching as many of your videos as possible. Love, love your easy manner when presenting recipes. Looking forward to more of your site.
Hello, Kevin! Happy that I stumbled upon your UA-cam channel. I love your tea time recipes. My dear friends and I love to have tea parties, mainly to make use of her lovely China collections handed down from various relatives. I hope to incorporate your recipes into our next Tea Party.
Don't you worry about your decorating skills, you just keep on decorating like no one is watching! I love that you put on a dinner jacket 🤩 and set the tone for the occasion--Tea Time! Oh and in your lovely music room 🥰. Would you play something for us sometime? I so appreciate all the work you put into all your videos.
Kevin Lee, love you and love watching you cooking and baking in your kitchen. I try to watch every video that you have put up lately. I am trying a lot of your recipes out and am having a lot of fun in my kitchen. I will keep following and watching you everyday.
so glad I found you. Especially right after Queen Elizebeths Funeral. That was such a sad time too. So you really brightened my Day. thank you God Bless
Such an elegant touch to a lovely afternoon or evening tea! My Aunt Edna made these along with canapes and banana nut finger sandwiches for my wedding reception many years ago. She also made my beautiful wedding cake and the groom's cake! She was a caterer, among many other things, so everything was professionally presented. What a grand and special lady she was. Thanks for bringing back the memories for me. I think you petit fours look perfectly lovely. Enjoy them!
I will give these a try-peetit fours are difficult to make but you make it seem like something I can do. BTW-you are brave to take on white chocolate frosting--white chocolate can be tough to work with. Thanks for posting.
Hello. So wonderful to see your preparation for an afternoon tea again. I see you are comfortable with "store-bought" items. In a pinch, when Im making large dinners, they come in handy & save time. I have never sat down for tea, its coffee for me. I know, I know, but it does give me a boost to continue the day & not sleep the afternoon away. LOL. So, back to your delightful tea preparation, I will begin following your daily delight of tea. It does leave One content & refreshed. Good day. KW MT. 🇺🇸
However it turns out, it’s joy to watch your demos. I’ve never made these, thinking so complicated and fussy, but watching you, I must try. Thank YOU, Kevin.
Thanks for the Royal Icing lesson, and so many of the tips along with the petit fours! I, too, have difficulty with the piping bag - I think it takes a lot of practice!
I love your music room and your videos on creating afternoon tea nibbles. I love to do with tea with my granddaughters. I'm definitely going to try this recipe with them.
I loved that. I never thought of something like that. You are a really nice person. Thank you for the warm way you include everyone. Your parents gave you great manners. Nitey night, Tiger
Thank you for sharing! Your recipes, and flower arrangements. They are so without “fuss”, that they are just fun to do! Very unusual today where “complicated” spells “professional”, and “tedious”, or exotic “ingredients” spells this is about “me not “ you”.🎉
I appreciate that you use store bought items and don't make everything from scratch. It certainly makes your recipes more "doable" in my opinion. I also appreciate your "regular person" vibe. Thank you for posting.

I love this. I had no idea how the petit fours were made. Thank you!!
Thanks for your tips!
Planning a tea party and I’ll definitely make these sweet treats ! Loved the cat too!
Those petit fours re delightful. I miss them much.

I loved that. I never thought of something like that. You are a really nice person. Thank you for the warm way you include everyone. Your parents gave you great manners. Nitey night, Tiger
Very clever idea to use pound cake for these great video
Thank you for sharing! Your recipes, and flower arrangements. They are so without “fuss”, that they are just fun to do! Very unusual today where “complicated” spells “professional”, and “tedious”, or exotic “ingredients” spells this is about “me not “ you”.🎉
And I thought I was bad at icing decorating! Such fun. The petit fours are gorgeous.
