Wanna know who else didn't have a "big arm?" Peyton Manning (especially after that surgery), Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan...... I could keep going. Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen have messed up people's minds. They've forgotten that there's more than one way to skin a cat and they've forgotten all the BIG ARMS like Jeff George and Jamarcus Russell who couldn't play ball. Can you play ball and can you lead a football team?

Great to hear your thoughts on the Nix pick, Stink. You, Saban, Belichick, and Riddick have all spoken highly about the fit with Payton, his accuracy, and how he gets the ball out quick. He has good legs and athleticism, but basically plays purely from the pocket as well.
Another thing I like about Nix is how he improved literally every year he started, which makes me feel great about his work ethic and how coachable he'll be under Sean Payton.

I'll always think his morale was broken the instant Russ walked off the field & begged Hackett not to make him go for it on 4th & 5 week one of '22. Watch that clip again. Jeudy's jaw drops as he realized what Russ was doing.

@@78LedHead Yeah, sorry. I'm one of those rare people who realizes that things I don't like happen whether I acknowledge them or not. So, not wanting to lie to myself I forget that my brutal honesty hits others differently.
The thing is, the only reason I returned to watching the NFL was finding analysis channels. I thought "this is great. Now we can *call **_out_* the bad coaching & play-calling & stop blaming QBs & players when it's not their fault."
How naive, eh? People still think Lamar's 3 pedestrian years mean he's a glorified RB, Justin Fields "holds onto the ball too long," an empty meme that *doesn't apply* when you're scrambling for your life as opposed to being in the pocket & I don't know if anyone thinks Pickett sucks or was being held back by Matt Canada because the fans all changed their opinions to match their anger, not reality.
Kinda makes it hard to hold an intelligent conversation with anyone though.

    • @78LedHead
      @78LedHead 2 місяці тому

@@choosecarefully408 You make some excellent points. I will say, I'm of the mind that Lamar, even though a great football player, has a TON of growing to do if he's ever going to help lead the Ravens to playoff success. Last year? That loss? I've never in my life witnessed a star QB react that way. It was worse than a rookie. The demeanor.... the body language.... it's like he got embarrassed and gave up. I'd be real worried as a Ravens fan. Lots of regular season success, but in the playoffs? Uh oh. That's just my analysis though.
I think it's a mix of poor coaching and some of these guys just not being able to cut it. MOST don't cut it in the league, and some can do it with good coaching or not.

I've seen Nix layer a 58 yard pass in the air distance , opposite side of the defender. The Reciever had to reach out in front of himself to catch on it the run but the pass was perfect. Secondly, of passes thrown past the line of scrimmage Nix was 71%, best of all 5 QB's taken ahead of him.

The Most Polarizing QB Draft in modern NFL history (pretty sure)…of the first 12 draft picks half were QBs, including the first three. Then a canyon…no QB was drafted until pick 15 of the 5th round (Rattler). 6 QBs - 1st round, the remaining 5 (5th and lower). That #12 pick was pivotal, almost monumental, by the numbers. they should put it on his uniform.
Great show, you guys. Very educational. Speaking of #12, Tom Brady wore out defenses throwing to slant route guys like Welker and Edelman. I never remember him really throwing bombs either. Maybe a 15-20 sideliners to Gronk but that's about it.

They also finished 9-8 last season, same as the Bucs, Carr started figuring things out and was arguably the best QB in the NFL over the last 6 weeks, his passer rating was 117 over that span.
That’s with not being able to run the ball all season.
So they brought in Klint Kubiak & your boy Rick Dennison as run game coordinator, so the run game should be fixed and they’ll probably scheme up more easy completions for Carr.

I agree with Mark on EVERYTHING the one thing I would pushback on is Raheem Morris is a unique defensive coach and the staff Pennix Jr will have. Kyle had advocated for Mike to hire him for years. He ends up on the vaunted Washington Staff with Matt LeFleur, Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel and Kyle and Mike Shanahan. Mike has been on the record as saying he included him in meetings with those offensive guys. He wanted Raheem to learn offense to prep him for his second chance. Kyle the year of the Matt Ryan MVP year the SB year Raheem Morris was the receivers Coach he didn't return to the defense till 2019 I believe. They're running that scheme that you see those other guys from that staff run Zac Robinson is a smart guy he is a local product was at Chatfield went on to star and Oklahoma State. He has similar career Arc to Kevin O'Connell. Drafted by New England didn't have long career been a Coach with Sean McVay. So I'd say that's not the traditional hey he's only a defensive guy. But I think Bo Nix and Sean Payton is a perfect marriage. He has the physical tools to make all the throws the arm strength questions are moot he can fix his deep ball a little but he still can launch it when needed. He can do the things Russ didn't between the hashes the truly Sean Payton things on offense. Bo Nix offense will look more Sean Payton than Russell Wilson. Troy Franklin in that Robert Meecham type role, Mims in that Brandin Cooks type role. Cortland Sutton in that Colston and Mike Thomas type of role.

With this class, the only quarterbacks I don't think have a shot at making it are the ones we know most about. That's likely not just a coincidence.
I know Nix was a punchline for a while at Auburn, but I also know he played in 61 games at big-time P5 schools while spending one less year in college than did Penix and his 47 games - 2 or 3 of which might have been considered "big."
