    Had one for a few years now! I put it aside and forgot about it actually. When I got it I thought that I didn't receive my carbides that I order so anyways 2 yrs later I run across this thing in a shop drawer and got it out and lowen behold I opened the pouch and started going through it and found my carbides in the inside pocket. I used it on my saw and its definitely is a Cadillac of sharpeners. Love it. Excellent product Timber line.

    This sharpener works really well! The only thing these instructions don't show is that when you switch the handle to the other 30 degree hole, you are grinding against the direction you would normally go with a handheld sharpening steel. That threw me off, but really it doesn't matter when grinding down metal this way. This contraption put great sharp edges back on the teeth of the chain for both of my two Husqvarna saws, one is .325 tge other is 3/8ths. Wish I had bought this Timberline sooner. It keeps the sharpening angle level and right at 30 degrees. I cut up to 36" trees and when bucking them out making rounds, after having sharpened them with this thing, I get perfectly straight cuts. My only worry is that this company could go out of business (I have no idea how well these are selling, so I don't know), but I ordered a few extra carbide sharpeners so I can use this thing for the next 20 years just in case . The carbides are only $20.

      So to sharpen the other side tooth, all you have to do is change the handle you don’t have to do anything else to the sharpener?

    BEWARE! I bought this sharpener in the UK and it was great to start with. However, the block and pawl (the part that holds the chisel against the sharpener) wears and stops you being able to fully sharpen the chain after awhile. I have tried and tried to get a replacement part, even emailing Timberline directly to as for a UK spares distributor. Timberline didn't even bother to acknowledge or answer my emails and so I don't know where to go next. This was a very expensive piece of kit (over £120) and so you would expect at least some basic customer service. There are similar devices in Amazon for a quarter of the price; I wonder if their customer service and spare parts are any better than Timberline.

    The tool seems to be well made but I had a problem with the carbide cutter breaking after only sharpening a few teeth. I was following the directions so I don't know why it broke. I left the company two emails and one voice mail and never received a response. They are quick to sell the item but it appears customer service is non-existent after that.

    I got mine earlier this week. I am a farm/ranch chainsaw user - so not pro or anything. So far, I am quite impressed with the product. I've been cutting some large oak, both crosscutting and ripping. The stuff is hard on chains. In just a few minutes I can use this little jewel to touch-up a chain - at least as good as new. Good job, Timberline!

    This is the best sharpener I have found! If you follow the directions it works flawlessly! The instructions clearly state to adjust the center knob so it applies slight pressure only. My saw throws chips and cut true! Every neg post on every vid are from one guy. Don't listen to him.

    Sure no problem repairing chains that are badly "rocked" or that have it nails.
    It comes with 1 carbide file (you choose the size) and extra carbide files can be purchased individually. They last more than 10X longer that regular files. All have 1/4" diameter shaft so they are interchangeable with the tool.

      From their website: The center knob is only needed if your bar is worn and the chain flops from side to side. It helps push the chain vertical when sharpening side A so that the carbide can be inserted into the chain without having to push it over with your finger.

    Isn't the carbide portion supposed to get dipped into some oil first? I had done that when I started using it a couple years ago based on something I read or saw, but don't know if it is an official instruction or something I mimicked from someone else.

  • @cormus1
    @cormus1 9 років тому +1

    I've just got mine and it works pretty good, the only thing I am finding is that the guides are getting really sticky and metal seems to be wearing out of them. I have put oil on the shaft of the carbide to try to lube it but it doesn't seem to help.

    • @popesnoopy
      @popesnoopy 6 років тому +3

      cormus1 that’s because u carbide cutter is dull.
      Order a new cutter bit & u will instantly remember what u forgot @ well this thing worked when it was brand new.
      Tool is flawless - even brand new (like straight out of the package) chains can b improved by this tool. We throw chips the size of beer cans now with noticeably less stress on saw, motor, & humans alike.
      The cutters rehab old chains with all sorts of tooth damage. The cutters don’t last anywhere near as long as the company’s self acknowledged ‘best case scenario ‘ but they definitely pay for themselves several times over.
