If only people would focus on the importance of understanding the past on its own terms instead of projecting modern ideas and attitudes back into the past.
It was a pretty big thing that happened. The myriad of laws, regulations and statutes created by the colonizers only had one desired outcome. To gain control of the land in NZ . Land creates wealth, inability to create wealth often leads to crime.. The colonizers were morally and legally wrong in their efforts to gain land. Europeans did this all over the world. Hokai Rangi WAS a complete WASTE of Money. Gert the stats of those who went through it and DINT come back to prison. How much of that money was WASTED on Hui, Iwi parties.. YES a bloody lot.
Well said. Time for every human to be responsible for self.
easy to take responsibility when your people had nothing, so they came to take from others. be mighty easy. had nothing anyway, worlds you bloody oyster. Ill take responsibility for my response towards your peoples actions.
Good point. Only an ignorant racist would disagree with that.
Maybe having access to their culture and identity is a BACKWARDS step towards rehabilitation?
"Having access to their culture" it's such a trite and vacuous statement. Your culture is your operating system, that's all it is.
If I said that it would be deleted
How so..?
@@synthzizer3324 Fortunately, psychohistory is becoming a more recognised science... I predict that in 50 years it will become the foundation of most futuristic societal research...
@@SirLangsalot Not when the culture includes intentional abuse and criminal behavior.
Well said Mr Jones - you need to be New Zealand's Prime Minister.
David Seymour is another contender for PM too.
The correction system is not to blame for the amount of maori's in jail. The correction staff are there to keep the prisoners safe, fed, inside etc. Like other comments, if ya do the crime ya do the time. All those supposed opposition mp's think about is the criminals. What about all the victims of the crimes?! They get treated worse than the criminals.
My goodness what an incredible bunch of unintelligent questions came from that green MP. Amazing in the 21st century we could have somebody of such slow calibre representing the people.
I think you mean 'low caliber,' which your comment has demonstrated
'Low caliber’ My goodness, can you guys even speak your own language properly?
THANK YOU SHANE!!!! SICK AND TIRED OF THE VICTIM MENTALITY... WHEN THEY ARE THE ONES DOING THE CRIMES??? PLEAXE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE???
Your people committed war crimes and you shouldn't even be here. your people destroyed a culture, not long ago either, within my parents life times and long before that. your only the victims of a response your ancestors caused. its even weirder that the Pakeha today use the same excuses they did long ago when they were still doing the same thing. the fact that you cant see the pattern is beyond me, but it would explain why maori were able to outsmart pakeha despite the numbers.
Find my comment and it will make sense after you get over the initial shock of being presented with reality.
Maori are in jail because they broke the law. Stop blaming something that happened 200 years ago. Taking actions for your own mistakes and stop blaming others. Or stop breaking laws SIMPLY
Every westernized country now has disproportionate wealth and income levels between the original inhabitants and the European colonizers. SIMPLY how it is.
@@kelbatt7729 Today’s Maori wouldn’t even exist without colonisation, nor would we have a modern functioning society if it had not happened.. Quit with the simplistic revisionist history which paints colonisation in only a negative light..
Maori leaders and definitely those pretending to be advocating for Maori in government…need to turn their focus into one of helping those Maori and non Maori communities/ sectors of society, be better citizens and people… this starts from simple basic principles… purpose, respect, love of self, love of family and patriotism for New Zealand
Something the tax payer(government's) settlements were supposed to be for.

@@november50 3 billion dollars later and no change...the maori elites are squandering the money and it's not filtering down to the real need. it is a big fraudulent free ride on the gravy train at everyone else's expense blaming everyone else for the problem but themselves.
Awesome Shane Jones..Māori need to take responsibility and accountability for themselves & stop blaming everyone else for their mistakes….life is about choice !
Well said
Shane…. No words…I wish your people can follow your example of a proud Māori trying to get back the self respect and honour of a true Māori.
You just got yourself a new subscriber on the strength of that one video, New Zealand First ! Looking forward to bingewatching soon
The victims get less justice than the crims. Well said Mr Jones.
About time someone spoke the truth.
🎉 well said Shane well said about time someone stood up to this woke poor me crap
Ka pai Matua Shane 💪
Thanks Shane for saying what we all know
What you know 😂
Great points Mr Jones, and yet they do not hear.
Amen!
Thanks for sharing!.
Gotta love Shane Jones for getting straight to the point.
Can you send this guy over to Australia please? God, we need somebody like him.
Tribalism and stupidity dont mix regardless of how much you want to play the victim
Absolutely brilliant points Shane. Well said !
It's about time someone said that in parliament.
Under the treaty, maoris have a responsibility to behave like good, law abiding citizens. Maoris are "overrepresented" in the prison system because they are not meeting their treaty obligations.
They need to stop leveraging their race and bad decisions against the rest of the nation for more resources and more leniency for their bad behaviour.
ssshhhhhh... treaties (inc this one) have only 1 side having obligations apparently.
Stop breaking the law. They are also distorting the truth, SHAME
Not only Maori victims, but also Maori offenders on white victims??? Very Common.
Yes and a lot of attacks are rascally driven by Māori offender’s.
That is why the criminal sympathizing Labour, made "culturally sensitive" name suppression laws and gave voting rights back to prisoners.
Thank you 🙏
Perfectly put, matua Jones.
Exactly right.
Well said. Everyone is a victim of something but learning how to overcome things is something that needs to be taught more.
A whole race is trying to learn how to overcome the fact that their country was stolen from them.
Spot on Shane Jones. I was a Probation Officer for 20 years - you're spot on. There has been a focus on reducing Maori offending for decades - but nothing changes... the focus absolutely needs to be on the victims. The only people who benefitted from Hokai Rangi were the management - money for sitting in meetings quoting their whakapapa..... the staff got more cultural supervision than the inmates!
All this woke emphasis on maori whakapapa but ready to schidt on their very own earopean whakapapa when it suits them and there's a freeride on the gravy train. not they don't reject the coloniser's money and technology and Harleys, kfc, hoodies and free government housing and dole free money....did i mention colonisers money???
Why does "colonisation" only affect some Maori and not all? Could that be because it's the latest excuse to justify those behaving badly?
in the same way childhood abuse only effects (in terms of future imprisonment or cyclical abuse) some of the victims and some do good... ie, it effects all, but some can overcome it to the point where you wouldnt know.
STOP breaking the law!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said Shane
You need to stop that cause we're all one people. If they didn't get in trouble, they wouldn't be in jail.
Well said Mr Jones, thank you!
Very well said Shane
cheers Mr Jones
Perfect!
The global solution is called. Personal responsibility
RCA...........Bad parenting. Well said Shane.
As usual with the Maori Activist Party, it's always the fault of someone else.
Well said mr jones
Thank you Mr Jones for speaking up, unfortunately too many others will find that he said offensive but it's the truth. What happened to you as a child is not your fault but as an adult your growth is your responsibility and there is plenty of support out there, opportunity and privilege.
Maybe it's the Māori's job to reduce their over representation in prison, rather than the state's.
Well answered Shane Jones 🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That young woman has no clue. Another naive native
Just because you have the appearance doesn't mean you were exposed to any of the native experience most are accustomed too. It could be none at all.
This man tells the hard truth. I'm really liking this guy.
Oh dear!! Only Shane can point the finger where it hurts!! Maori must educate their families in the home of the does and don’ts to make an honest society!!
Like the all the honesty displayed by the colonizers when they killed us and stole our land under the belief that they had a more honest society. Rubbish
The Maoris failed themselves.
Brilliant..
Well said! and we have the exact same issue in Australia. What's terrifying is law enforcement are too scared to enforce the law in places like Alice Springs as it will inflate the numbers further, which means its perfectly fine for young Aboriginal kids to smash up the CBD every night and intimidate non-aboriginal people. .
Exactly!
another case of moari not wanting to take responsibility for their own actions.
My ancestors immigrated to New Zealand with hardly anything, they could barely speak english, their culture was not british, but adapted themselves to make the most of the opportunities this country provides to become fully independent and give themselves a comfortable lifestyle. Many Maori need to stop the argument of colonisation and the crys of victimisation because it just fuels racism.
