I own several overdrive pedals. They all kind of sound alike, but this is by far my favorite. I agree with the other comments in awesome playing too. I love hard rock blues riffs.
Thanks for the demo Marty. I recently bought the latest V2.0 version. It sounds great, by FAR the best OD pedal that I have owned. Here is my list of tests: - Boss OD-3: Harsh/Trebly/Thin - Boss OD-1X: Digital Artifacts - EHX Glove: Meh (~OD-3) - EHX Soul Food: Thin/gutless gain The OCD V2.0 volume is VERY sensitive, but if you accept that and work with it, sounds great. Do not be surprised to have to dial in volume as low as 8 to 9 o'clock for unity input/output.
Saying the ocd is better than a soul food is like saying apples are better than bicycles. I have them both and they're just different for different use cases. Klons like ehx SF are transparent and an OCD is hard clipping. Doesn't make sense to compare in a which is better way. The ocd does offer a bigger spectrum of sounds but doesn't sound interesting when cleaning up too much. Depends on the level of gain you want imo.
@@Geert890 They are all overdrive pedals; it's a bit of a stretch to suggest apples and bicycles comparisons. Fully agree that it depends on what sort of OD/Distortion is required; it's all about expectations. Some pedals can be very underwhelming with some amps. Often a pedal demo will use a (very loud) amp at 'edge of breakup'...they do not declare metered dB sound levels. The results using a clean amp that has lots of headroom may be very underwhelming at home sound levels. It depends on individual guitar/pedal/amp set up...and player expectations. I still have the OCD (V1.4), but often use other pedals. Maybe I should have kept the Soul Food for variety of tone. Fortunately, I explored other pedals that produce very good results at a fraction of the cost. For example, the NuX XTC OD and NuX Plexi Crunch pedals can be found at ridiculously low cost, that cover mild boost, to powerful OD and face melting distortion. Don't expect them to last as long as more expensive pedals, but that's the trade off when exploring pedals.
Thanks for acquainting me with ocd. Thru this video, but comfortably numb solo, first. Ive loving my ts9, hating my distortion pedal (fender pugilist); loving my new amps drive channel (hotrod deville), hating my old amps distortion effect (fender CHAMPION 50XL). I've been suspecting this, but you have finally confirmed it for me. And that is: overdrive pedals are the real deal when used correctly with the right amp....While distortion pedals - even the great ones (and this pugilist i have is pretty great -) are at best, second rate facsimiles of the real deal (a balls-to-the-wall-loud breaking up tube amp). And OD pedals can be more than just ts clones. The ocd is the perfect Rock/Hard Rock dirt tone ive been looking for to compliment my hotrod's tube driven drive channel. Thanks Marty Schwartz, you da man!🤟 ( You know, my guitar coach's name is Bernie Schwartz. Port Macquarie, Australia)
Glad you posted your amp as well... you should be aware that since you're playing through a solid state amp (the Champion 50XL is solid state, not tube, correct?) distortion and fuzz won't sound right. They just won't. Even overdrive pedals are going to sound better through a tube amp (most of the time). So don't throw away your high gain stuff yet... try them into a different amp!
Luey Tele Deluxe I had the champion 50xl and that shit sucked so hard dude, I had to trade it in and get a katana 50, still not as good as a tube amp tho.
I've got the V1.3 'til many years. It sounds great on many amps and many guitars...boost...Crunch...drive..distosion....great analogic pedal!! Excellent demo it dound good also on humbuckers!
I already have nice gear...But I still watch the video just because of the songs you play while demonstrating...Keep up the hard work and we will keep up the suport...Greet from Croatia :D
Me too brother. It is The Best Overdrive / Distortion I have ever played ( or tried ), and I have tried them all. Fulltone hit A Home Run with this. Its a Modern Day Classic. So Versatile. you can go from Clean Boost - Blues Grit to - Classic Rock - Metal. I will Never be without one. So Open & Natural Sounding. - Michael Caz - NYC -
Great demo - but added bonus not covered here - One of the best things about the OCD is how it responds to dynamics. You can play with varying degrees of pick attack and it responds in epic fashion. 'Tickle' it and it can be quite tame - then, without changing settings, flay the living fuck out of your strings and the OCD grows teeth, hair, horns and a flick-knife. . Best pedal ever for that.
For those wondering which version this is - the video (2016) pre-dates the release of the V2.0 (2017). Therefore it cannot be the V2.0. The red LED suggests that it is V1.4, V1.5, V1.6 or V1.7 (earlier versions had a blue LED). The V1.4 has a different taper on the volume pot, making it less sensitive at the low end (it's more useable). The volume pot in this video is set quite high which suggests it might be the V1.4. I have owned the V1.4, V1.7 and V2.0. I kept the V1.4 - a very lively and strident pedal, just like in this video🤘.
@@sylaconnocalys8443 If you mean a V1.2, then yes, the LED was blue on those early units, and changed to red from the V1.4 onwards. The new V2.0 that I had came with a red LED.
@@neslesman6708 Thanks. I still have the V1.4 pedal. Some people find that the OCD (all versions) are somewhat dark. I would say it is 'smooth', which is a good attribute, not harsh/brittle like many OD pedals. When used with a semi-hollow humbucker guitar (inherent dark tone), I soon wanted a Treble Boost pedal to cut the bass going into the OCD. I built one from a kit, it is great; better than an EQ pedal. A low cost Tube Screamer Mini can also cut the bass. I recently tried the Boss DS-1 and Nux Plexi Crunch for a bright cutting Rock tone. I sold the DS-1 and kept the Plexi Crunch. So for me, it's the Plexi Crunch for a hard hitting bright rock tone, and the OCD for a more rounded classic rock tone.
Marty I would like to learn the live version of old love by Eric Clapton so not the unplugged version. that one is over played. 😊 Thnx Mick and Thnx for all the guitar lesson I've bin learning from you for 3 or 4 years.

really nice review, everyone else just seems to crank the gain which makes it seem really one dimensional but you showed us that it can be really sweet also

I have that. No not the pedal, the disorder. haha. kidding. although I probably do. I always wondered what those OCD pedals sounded like. Now I know! I would enjoy seeing you review a Fender Blues Jr amp!!
Maybe a few of the latest SS amps would be good Marty like the new Boss Katana,Peavey bandit,Blues cube, seems to be getting really competitive in that segment of the market now. Also as my tube amp keeps going south I'm thinking of getting one lol. Keep up the good work Marty you have a great channel going there😉
That is some sweet ROCK playing Marty, really great pedal for sure. I know it is a bit different but maybe talking about guitar strap locks and how they work would be a helpful video. Could save people from having an expensive guitar badly damaged. Would like to hear a review of P90 pickups, Yamaha Pacifica, an SG, Boss Metal Pedal, Blues Driver, Paul Reed Smith guitar, Fender Bassbreaker. What's your opinion on the new TC Electronic series? These are very reasonably priced pedals that sound just as good as some these boutique pedals IMO. Outstanding pedal. It's my favorite on my board. Great playing!!

India ROCKS!
Thanks for the support Soumyajit!
I guess it is kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Titus Lian try FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
Lol indians who say sir sounds like a little school boy who needs a spanking.
I just placed my order, it will be here Friday. Thanx for a killer demo! 🤘

thanks again!
No welcome....Again xD
I have about 7 OD/Distortion pedals and I always keep going back to the OCD. Combine it with a Fulltone Fatboost and it sounds amazing.
cool man!
Nice demo on the wide range of this pedal Marty.. good stuff as always. Take care man.
Thanks again Carl!
glad your finally getting a decent amount of subs. your videos are great and always have been

got one and i've had it for a year and i love it
