Very true. In Tifa’s story from On the Way to a Smile, she felt guilty and wanted to off herself out of such intense grief. Cloud was actually the one who had to bring her back to herself, saying that if she ever forgot who she really was, he would be there to remind her.
It seems a little teeny-bopper, but i do love the friendship between these two. When I first got the gsme, i read the manual before playing, and when i saw that there was a love triangle i assumed the two ladies would be at each other's throats. What a breath of fresh air that they can be best friends despite both liking the same guy.

@@ethanwoo4001 she does like cloud but for those in denial after all these years, rebirth made it pretty clear that she does in fact like cloud. even if you ignore her romance options she quite literally confesses to him by the end of the game in a non optional scene and even zack gets to know that aerith currently has feelings for cloud ironically enough. she writes a whole ass song for cloud in-game and performs it, which happens to be the main theme song for rebirth "no promises to keep". aerith has always been one of the love interests for cloud for a reason otherwise the devs wouldn't have formed a "love triangle" and romantic options for both girls in the first place.

It stays between a teenager romance, playful, messing around and just a good, real friendship, with ocasional hinting at something deeper. Not to mention her feelings being partly due to Cloud reminding her of Zack. This is NOT the same as with Tifa. She loves Cloud, and there's no other way around it. If anything, the dating sequences are pretty clear about the difference between them, and the stuff that will still happen in the story will only deepen their relantionship further. And of course, everybody who played the original and know the canon understands why they went that way. You could say it's "destiny".

I like the relationship of Tifa and Aeris way better in the remake. Tifa is usually more of the quite and reserved beauty who can kick ass. But Aerith always manages to make her follow along with her antics. Aeris is way cuter in the remake. Everyone is great and has more personality actually. I also like Barret. He is often the big dummy who rushes straight in without a second thought. But he is also the realest. He might not be as cunning and intelligent as Cloud but he's got the heart on the right place. Though I guess he's always been like that. Even in the original. Gotta buy me a new gaming computer so that I can finally play remake and rebirth.
I disagree about Barrett. Dude is actually most in tune with coming up with plans and such being the leader of his cell of Avalanche but he gets a bit emotionally invested in the cause and can get carried away at times. He has a lot of depth and can be goofy just like Cloud who is aloof at times. Just got balancing of characters
Believe it or not Remake Barret is very competent, he's the big brother of team who tend to be first to point out bullshit and put the team in focus when it's duty time. When Cloud was in his achzo antic,Barret assume leadership quickly and tell cloud to snap out of it.
I love that Square Enix put this scene in for those of us who read through the whole Traces of Two Pasts book! It’s a lovely touch for those fans who went the extra mile to read through all the external media!

It shows you what they were talking about just before this scene in its entirety and this bit of conversation is ripped straight from the book which came out in 2021 (you can find it for free off the internet thanks to the handy work of some translators)

Maybe the intent was for players to be able to choose which ship they think is canon in the end. That seems to be the sentiment in Japan where the shipping war is not really a war and more so just people choosing which girl they like best. I think western fans took it to an extreme they never intended for. That’s why I will always want them to make the couple to be player choice. Hopefully aerith will live this time around for that to happen.

Cloud's and Tifa's relationship was growing from their childhood. There was still something between them. Common memories, they are only two who remained from Nibelheim.
It's so nice to see actual girly characters in a game. Every game just has those snarky aloof girls that's frankly not interesting - or for some reason has so much confidence that they never interact with a guy without being clearly superior.
