I own a 1968 900cc XLCH iron head sportster. Iam 76 years old and still kick start it. It takes a technique. You definitely don't want to flood it, he did, if you do, just walk away for a while, come back, open the throttle fully, kick it a time or two. It may backfire, but that is good. He also got a taste of the recoil that these engines can give you. Mine recoiled on me once so bad that it kicked me over the handlebars. If you go through what this kid did, you don't ever want to shut it down, trust me, I know.
He will get used to it I used to ride a 125cc motocross bike and at first it sucked but after about a week or so if starting it every day and using it in the yard I was starting her in the first 2 kicks
@@420productions1000 bro i had a 150 an 175 dirtbikes. An kick starting them isnt shit lmao your a pussy if you find it hard at all to kick start. Now i have gsxr 750 with electric start lol 1 turn an 2 pushs an away i go lol
Amazing that the kid kicked it for 10 minutes. More amazing is that Dad let him kick it for 10 minutes without telling him how. My 79 shovel will start with 3 to 5 good kicks. There is technique!!! 2 or 3 primer kicks ignition off to get oil primed in the motor. Then turn in the ignition find the compression stroke by or top dead center. Then kick the bike. I like to kick from the right side (same as the kick starter). Less likely to kick back because you keep more weight on the kick starter. Usually cranks 3 to 5 after sitting for a few months. I’ve never kicked a pan but the process is the same as with the shovel. Nice video. I would have give up at that age.
@@TKO-NY my 73' Ironhead has a completely different cam and kicker cover, and rockers. But this bike is nice, just don't like the spirder forks. Girders or springers would complement it well

He is definitely going to be a rider I remember being 7&8 years old trying to kick a bike. Started my first one about 14 years old. Although mine is electric start I have got a shovel head and still love it just as much as the Street glide........ aaaalmost lol Street glide is Cadillac. Good job young man see you on the streets soon.
Man I keep rocking in my seat trying to help him and holding my breath,,, dam wearing me out. 😅👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✌🏼 and ol yeah. Super nice bike and love the forks
micheal2009able I agree with that. Kick starters are nice. You don't see them too much anymore. Of course, you are screwed either way if the battery is dead I do believe.
I'm 73 and own an Ironhead Sporty as well as a knuckle and Panhead but I've stored them for my kids ,if the bike don't have the fun button my old ass ain't riding it .
i always hated the first start of the day starting my 1972 Harley Davidson sportster 900 chopper 7 foot springer front end but after she was warmed up she would start the first or second kick bad ass bike I can't wait to get mine out of storage and go for a long run
Man it’s good to be young, I’m 56 and if I kick my ass off for eight minutes I’d be pushing daisies , But along with age comes technique that’s why we start them on the third kick two primer Kicks and one to take off
Nice job, i know the frustration once it took me 15 minutes to start, but hey its all about getting it started and enjoy the ride times it will die at intersections haha
One of my friends got seriously hurt while kicking a bike. He was playing in the mud, and the bike stall. It's an xt 550 btw. So, as he was kicking it, the decompressor diabled itself somehow, and his leg slipped off the kickstart, and the kickstart went straight trought his calf. Be careful with big bikes, they can get you hurt :D
Just skip 9:40 in & the kid will look like a hero. Now dad I hope that's not how u start it your self, he'll get kicked doing it like that (as seen in the video right off the bat). I have a 64 kickstarter only. Going three the ignition system & the timing helped a ton. Good looking old school build but the way. I should also say that the kid is a champ for sticking in there.

I had a 71 Stroked Sporty XLCH in High School. I was actually the first astronaut when that thing kicked back on me.
Dave j ai 8 ten tu peut me donner la moto
😂😂😂🤣
John Harmon internally sprung girder! High dollar piece of history of a front end you got there!
Should’ve put a disclaimer that this is literally 10 minutes of a kid doing a leg workout
Fuck , that was painful to watch !
John Vargo the kid ain't gonna try that for a while yet. Poor guy
Kid will make sure he rides, an electric start. If it's that hard to fire up, it beup for sale.
I sure hope you let him take it for a ride after all that kicking! : ) He definitely earned it! Nice old school scoot!!
mulliedog1 I no he should Lol

Glad to see that some people are still raising Men. Dig the bike.
Shady Jake if hes a man he can start it with his head not his foot.
I'd say... Penis.
Prince Xamim gay
Shady Jake how does kick starting a bike make you a man? Dumb nigga.
Sureno Lord you clearly don’t know how much compression you have to jump when to get one of them old bike started
Imagine standing in a crowded parking lot trying to look cool while starting your bike and it takes you literally 10 full minutes to kick start it

Imagine being at a intersection making a left turn, and bike dies out . No electric start. Nice knowing ya. Upgrade to a dresser.
It took 10 minutes because he didn’t let the starter go all the way up before jumping
I rode with two guys who ran John Harmon internal suspension girders on their bikes. Those forks worked well and looked great.
Been there, '65 XLCH with mag!! First one out to the parking lot, last to leave!!!

Broken Ratshet hahahaha best comment ever
Lol
LMAO
he looked so tired by the time it kicked over he didnt even have a look of satisfaction in his face haha!! nice scoot
😂🤣
He needs to let the kick starter go all the way up
The kickstarter is all the way up that's when it starts to engage is at that level
yupp, and if u let it go more up like a '' loose '' point and kick it, you can kill the kickstarter very quickly.

Loved the video, great dad!
anyone watching this with an electric start bike is counting their blessings :P
