After watching this episode once again most people would say that TEON just burned out. As the saying goes though, "Something cannot burn out unless its on fire!"😊💪👍
It would have been nice for the show to include a montage of pictures of memorable performers of the show, such as Mandel Kramer and Teri Keane (the Marceaus), and Donald May and Maeve McGuire (Adam and Nicole).
I wish Donald May, Mandel Kramer and Teri Keane would have stayed with the show to the end. Along with Forrest Compton and Ann Flood, they all were the show.
I know Forrest Compton will always be iconic as Mike to Soap Opera fans but he'll always be Colonel Gray from GOMER PYLE to me. Kind of a straight man to Gomer and Sgt Carter's schtick.

Hey there thanks so much once again and yes i was there from the beginning supporting you!!!!!!!!and thanking you.............and still cant believe you accomplished your mission!!!!!!looking forward to more and and how about that Lee Sheldon's interview u had mentioned a while back, what happened to that?
I made contact with Mr Sheldon earlier this year and he had mentioned he would be interested in getting copies of these episodes on dvd, which I had gladly offered to do. And also he said after his school semester in the summer he would answer any questions I had. Unfortunately, any further contacts with him have not produced a response.....

Alicia could have made an excellent long term thorn in Sky/Raven's side..yet.functioned well outside their orbit. Since no body was found in Wonderland Ln...still think she didn't really get killed
I remember the end of this. At the end, they were playing the theme to "Sophie's Choice". I had tears in my eyes. The end of my fav soap of all time.. EON ALWAYS!!
The reason the episode ended with unfinished business (Mike Karr's dialogue fading into the closing credits) was because producers were hoping to continue to produce the show in first-run syndication, and wanted to leave a dangling thread to pick up on, should the happen, though it ultimately didn't happen. However, the USA network did rerun much of the ABC episodes of "Edge" during late-nights for a few years during the mid-'80s.
That’s very true they were in negotiations to do new episodes. USA network was interested but at the time they were a brand new net work and did not have the financial back up to produce new shows. So they opted to pick up the reruns. It would’ve been a very unusual new edge of night had they continued on in 1985 because already the show had lost many of its key players such as Sharon Gabet and Larkin Malloy Who both departed two other Procter & Gamble shows during the final episode. It may have been a completely different cast had it been allowed to continue.
The Edge of Night was originally intended to be the daytime version of Perry Mason, but author Erle Stanley Gardner pulled out of the project and the show was retooled, with the radio actor who played Mason.
By 1984, the writing of this once-fine series was in the toilet (Lee Sheldon was no Henry Slesar), and the core of the show had been gutted. Still, it's a shame TEON could not be repaired and salvaged.
MattFrame Hear, hear!! Also, I didn't like how this became the Sky & Raven show. I thought Sharon Gabet was too common to play a character that moved in wealthy and influential circles. I didn't really care too much for Larkin Malloy/Sky Whitney, or Charles Flohe (now Grant)/Preacher. I think I liked Sharon Gabet's portrayal of Melinda Cramer on One Life To Live. I think that maybe the character of Gavin Wylie should've been expanded, or maybe the character of Damien Tyler Wilcox should've been kept on through the series end. I dunno, just thinking out loud. Too bad the series evolved to this conclusion.
since P&G was looking to get out ot the ''soap-making biz'', it stands to reason why no effort ws made..ditto, SFT, AW, then later, ATWT and GL..they're all gone and P&G got out of the soap-making biz as intended..also, it's easy to tell when TPTB are looking to get rid of a show: neither LoL or SS were retooled towards continued success, either.....
Eric Tate.....They tried. Nick Nicholson and P and G almost had a deal with NBC but it fell through at the last minute. (NBC had terrible ratings for Search for Tomorrow when they picked it up from CBS) Then they tried to get it into first run syndication. The USA Network was new at the time and they were very interested because their programming at the time was all mystery and crime drama genre. HOwever they couldn't come up with a suitable budget to maintain new episodes. As a consolation, USA picked up the final 3 and a 1/2 years of reruns and that's why we have all these great episodes saved on fan tapes.
IT WAS MY SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND CHRISTMAS VACATION I WAS SO SO SAD , PISSED AND JUST ANGRY I HAD BEEB WATCHING THE SHOW FOR OHH ABOUT 10 YRS I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER SYKLAR AND RAVEN❤❤❤❤
Channel 13 Baltimore canceled it in the middle of Logan's death plot. I was to find its backhaul 5 months later on C-Band satellite. I was able to see it to the end that way. Skye was handsome, Miles was good looking, Wiley, Kelly, Preacher and Jodi were all good young characters. It was quite ashame about Forrest Compton's death due to Covid 19.
I hardly recognize anyone in this final episode. After 1981 or so, I didn't get to see the show as much, in the Detroit area it began airing at 10:30 in the morning! What a ridiculous time for this show!
This was a good ending. It got scrapped in Sacramento but thanks to fringe viewing, I was able to watch it by getting signals from KGO San Francisco and if I wanted to see it again , it would air at 10am on KOLO Reno. It also made me a fan of some of the background music they used by Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel-Jarre and Synergy. Long live EON
The reason why the episode ended in mid-story was that the producers were shopping EoN to other networks, including cable. But the program never re-appeared.
When I came home from high school this show would be ending the show was on , not sure why it was only 30 minutes but I think it had to do with Oprah Winfrey show was on between the news
I seen in a comment last night that there was a storyline that went something like this: Guy operated out of a building sending subliminal messages via TV Sets, later kidnapped Clint and Mitzi and subjected them to mental torture, I would like to find the episodes for this storyline because it sounds interesting. Also Edge Of Night needs a revival in primetime once a week and continue from the cliffhanger.
Hi Scott, thanks for your interest. I sure do have that story and it was a great one for sure. You want to start here around this time is when the story kicks into place. It starts out slow but will pick up considerably as the weeks go on. I'm currently right now up to July 1 and this so far is really good, who murdered Nicole please no one in the comments tell me I've not seen, it is getting really good. I wish someone would continue on from the cliffhanger and put this on in primetime, I'm not as familiar with the characters as so many others are, I am learning some of the characters.
@@scootover7 No Spoilers! Glad you started there! This is one of my favorite storylines. If there are any video issues or any episodes missing let me know and I will re-upload. . Every now and then a video goes black due to music copyrights. Enjoy Scott!
What episodes circa early to mid 1980s did the cable company transmit subliminal messages in to homes. Also some guy kidnapped and held in room where high frequencies were used for mind control
That was the ISIS building storyline and you can see it complete on my page starting with the episodes from Mid June 1983. Bring back The Edge of Night I bet you any soaps on a non censored channel so daytime dramas could thrive in a rebooted dramatic form. So tired of lame talk and reality shows which a cheaply done programs thrashed out on tv for far too long.
Five years ago I watched this episode and decided to go back to 1979 and work my way forward, and now I'm back here-all caught up! But there are lost episodes out there for me to discover!
@@Edgeofnight80s Yes, thank you! I found it and just finished watching it! I love the music "Just you and I" that they were married with. It was very beautiful!
Hmmm… I guess I missed a LOT more episodes than I thought that I did. 🤔 😀 .. So, hey fellow fans, please get me up to date?? QUESTION: how is this the “final episode” when I see Skylar & Gunther in it? I have seen some episodes where Gunther was killed by Skylar (Jefferson Brown) & that Skylar (Jefferson Brown) was killed by someone who saw him skiing with Raven. 🤷🏼♀️
This is the last episode that ABC aired. There were no more. You will have to please watch the episodes in order by the dates. Not in the order I posted them on UA-cam. I started posting episodes with 1983-84 then moved into 1979-1983. If you reveiw all my video posts you can locate the earliest posts and watch them in order. I am sorry if they are somewhat mixed. The reason why I started posting 83-84 first is because I did episode reviews on Sharon Gabet's Facebook page for all the episodes from JUne 83-December 84 back in 2015. Then we moved backward to 1981 and I started posting those next.
@@Edgeofnight80s Hi, thank you for your reply. 😊 I didn’t see those 2 get killed in any of the videos that you posted; I saw it happen on other channel(s) on here. Still, I don’t see how if they were both killed before the final episode took place, how can they later ‘appear’ in the final episode then.. no matter where I saw it at. ☺️ No need to answer; just a rhetorical question now.
@@valiredavis2534 Sorry but I do just want to reply for the benefit of others that my be confused. When Sky first came on the show in 1979 we later found out he was an imposter posing as the real Sky. Ditto for Gunther. The Gunther that was killed was the twin brother of the Gunther on this last episode. The Sky in this final show is the real Sky who came to town in April 82, just mere months after the imposter Sky was killed in Switzerland. All these episodes are available to view on my channel here. :) Thank you for watching.
@@Edgeofnight80s OMGoodness… WOW!!! 😁 Thank you a TON for coming back & clearing up my confusion. 👍 I was watching the show waaaaay back then in the 80s, but had forgotten a BUNCH of things. - I only started watching again last month thanks to great people like you posting them. I really appreciate you for letting me know all of this; I fo SHO understand now. 😀
Lee Sheldon said later on during his visits to fan boards in the 90s, that they planned a return of Lisa Sloan to cause strife for Miles and Beth. She looked like Nicole to Miles, but was she? The inspiration of the story was Hitchcock's Vertigo.
That was the series finale in 12/28/84. So the USA Network pick up "Edge of Night" on reruns a year later. Thanks to both Procter & Gamble and Paramount Pictures.
Sorry, it won't happen. According to Emmy nominated producer/executive Lynda Obst who was an big fan of the four time Emmy Award winning TV series "The Edge of Night" (1956-1984) because she saw it on the USA Network on repeats of the program for the first time, after it was purchased by Paramount Pictures under Viacom starting in June 24, 1981 during the 1981-1982 fall season. All of which she's have been getting wonderful ideas to work as an associate producer on the Emmy Award winning TV series between June 26, 1981 and December 28, 1984. She did it on her own when she formed her own indie production company, Lynda Obst Enterprises. Based at Sony Pictures Studios nearby the Katharine Hepburn Stage in Culver City, California since Fall 1985. Sadly, she died in October 22, 2024 at her home in California and survived by her family and friends.
They went to hell the show did after Margo's murder and the Molly Sherwood mysteries. When Nicole went off there too you killed off a major character which made no sense at all old classic Edge was where it was at.
Wow the last episode I c they had the Alice in Wonderland going concept going. Chris Egan comes back after escaping from Donald Hext with the cops & everything looks completely different. 😂😂😂. Smh
Schuyler Whitney had look in the final scene of where did this sword came if Donald Hext & Louis Van had any sense they would stay far away him because that guy between him & Jefferson Brown got @ least 4 bodies that I know but I only really ⌚ about 29 months before it was cancelled they need to bring that program back & pick up right where they left @ 😂😂😂😂😂😂.
It was left open Brian because at the time they were negotiating with NBC to add it to their lineup and when that fell through the production company tried in vain to get it in the first run syndication with USA network. Sadly the backing in the funding wasn’t there so USA network opted to pick up repeats of the program starting in June 1981 which is what you’re seeing here on this page.
Had to dislike, but only because this is the final episode. I'm not sure if you have seen some of the updated 'Edge' credits created by DS9Disko during the last few years. I ran across them a while back. They are incredible! It would be amazing to see an announcement of an 'Edge' reboot with credits similar to these. Jamey and Charlotte Whitney would be central characters along with Raven. ua-cam.com/video/oA5DbWdX8IA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/8tv1BZbKBPU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/VScSicnACcc/v-deo.html

I miss it, too! What a great way to end EON! I wish it was still on - my favorite daytime drama of all time!!
I'm inclined to agree. At least Bill and Martha Marceau could have returned at the end to visit Mike and Nancy (as Laurie Ann did).
It was never the same without Dennis Parker...
Was it widely known at the time he had performed in adult movies?
Wade Nichols
Cry cry cry....miss you Edge!
I know Forrest Compton will always be iconic as Mike to Soap Opera fans but he'll always be Colonel Gray from GOMER PYLE to me. Kind of a straight man to Gomer and Sgt Carter's schtick.
Forrest died of COVID-19 a few years ago. Sad ending.

I wish I had the Dec 80 to June 81 but I do not. I have been trying to find copies for 25 years to no avail. But I will posting better quality for 1981 and 1982 in the coming months. Thank you for watching MM...you were one of my first posters!

Gunther and Mitzi getting together was maybe the most sureal Edge story ever😂
Alicia could have made an excellent long term thorn in Sky/Raven's side..yet.functioned well outside their orbit. Since no body was found in Wonderland Ln...still think she didn't really get killed
I agree.
What instrumental was underscoring Miles and Beth's lovemaking towards the end?
Marvin Hamlisch "Sophie's Choice" Love Theme was used for that. The song would later in the 80s appear on other ABC soaps.
@@Edgeofnight80s His score has earned him an 1983 Oscar nod and put him back on the map as one of
Hollywood's greatest composers.
I remember the end of this. At the end, they were playing the theme to "Sophie's Choice". I had tears in my eyes. The end of my fav soap of all time.. EON ALWAYS!!
Never really watched this Show I knew the name but I must admit this looks like a good show
My all time favorite Soap

Agree.
Thank you for the episode!!! And are you going to upload again the missing episode from august 1980?? Thank you!
Blake West. If only the Fox network had been around to pick up the show and move to 11:00 at night and make it a "viewer discretion advised" show!
O
since P&G was looking to get out ot the ''soap-making biz'', it stands to reason why no effort ws made..ditto, SFT, AW, then later, ATWT and GL..they're all gone and P&G got out of the soap-making biz as intended..also, it's easy to tell when TPTB are looking to get rid of a show: neither LoL or SS were retooled towards continued success, either.....
I agree about Lee Sheldon. Bad fit all around for this show. Spelled the end when he came.
How come in 1984 eon no network never pick up eon
I miss this show.
Didn’t Larkin Malloy date Marcia Cross while EON was in production?
Yes they did for a little bit...and were featured together on Robin Leach's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in 1986.
Dana Delaney in that popular club commercial.
That's terrible they couldn't wait to finish out the run. So sad
Also, thanks to eonschuylerwhitne!!!! Deeply grateful!!
So Liz and Preacher suddenly don't have a car?
OMG The Popular Club catalog!!! Wowww I forgot all about that lol
The reason why the episode ended in mid-story was that the producers were shopping EoN to other networks, including cable. But the program never re-appeared.
Memories ❤❤❤
Always kinda wanted Gunther and Mitzey as a couple
I also liked Mitzey with Cliff.

There’s Marcia Cross before she was Kimberly Shaw on Melrose Place.

When I came home from high school this show would be ending the show was on , not sure why it was only 30 minutes but I think it had to do with Oprah Winfrey show was on between the news
This was the show that went Game of Thrones and had a Brother and Sister get Married.
Who were the characters? Was that the Paige Madison storyline?
Paige and Brian learned they were not blood siblings after all. Still, it was a little strange to watch.

Bring back The Edge of Night I bet you any soaps on a non censored channel so daytime dramas could thrive in a rebooted dramatic form. So tired of lame talk and reality shows which a cheaply done programs thrashed out on tv for far too long.

I didn’t see those 2 get killed in any of the videos that you posted; I saw it happen on other channel(s) on here.
Still, I don’t see how if they were both killed before the final episode took place, how can they later ‘appear’ in the final episode then.. no matter where I saw it at. ☺️
No need to answer; just a rhetorical question now.
Had the show continued to 1985, Hext would’ve come back to settle the score with Sky who “killed” him in the sword fight.
Lee Sheldon said later on during his visits to fan boards in the 90s, that they planned a return of Lisa Sloan to cause strife for Miles and Beth. She looked like Nicole to Miles, but was she? The inspiration of the story was Hitchcock's Vertigo.
That would have been interesting to see how the story would have played out.
That was the series finale in 12/28/84. So the USA Network pick up "Edge of Night" on reruns a year later.

she's have been getting wonderful ideas to work as an associate producer on the Emmy Award winning TV series between June 26, 1981

I always thought Larkin Malloy would've made an excellent James Bond the only problem was he was born in 🇺🇸 not England.
So it was left with a cliff hanger? I guess they didn't know they were not coming back.
