Thanks for your video, btw! I will definitely check out your list! Haven’t tried a Curlsmith shampoo, but one of the CS conditioners has been great when I tried it! :) Will try out a variety of these shampoos.
It's my first time growing out my hair, and your videos have been really helpful on this journey. I use an egg mask to my hair once a week and rub my scalp three times a week using liitlextraa cocooconion hair oil. Afterward, I rinse with cocoonion shampoo, and I've been following this routine consistently. I'm pleased to say that my hair fall is gone now.
I’ve been struggling with hair fall for a long time and tried all kinds of things with little success. A buddy like you recommended Liittlextra coconnion shampoo, and after using it consistently, I can notice a significant difference. My hair fall has decreased a lot.
Not only did you recommend products, you explained why you recommend them and your overall video was very informative!!!! Thank you so much, learned a lot. You can tell how much knowledge you have and how much you put into your videos to help others.
I love Bounce Curl’s Gentle Clarifying Shampoo. Leaves your hair so soft, almost like you don’t need conditioner. And it’s clarifying! Also I’ve had a whole house water softener for 20 years now and we do use salt and the system also uses charcoal. Works great and so worth the added expense.
Good info Gena. I have very hard water where I live. It changed the color of my hair and weakened my waves, so I made my own chelating rinse. I mixed about 1/3 ACV with 2/3 water in a 12 oz squeeze bottle and added 1 teaspoon EDTA powder that I purchased. It needs to sit on your hair for a few minutes, then rinse. It works! I use it once a week.
I know you try to keep things simple, but as someone who is new to embracing her wavy/curly hair, I am entirely overwhelmed. 😭 Do you offer consultation services at all?
Gena Marie does not keep things simple, don’t even feel bad. You’re in your elementary phase of curl education and Gena Marie is over here teaching a third year college course on curls.
Unfortunately no, but I can help you get started a little 1. Figure out your hair porosity 2. Do you have hard water 3. How is the environment you live in. Gena! Thank you so much for all the research you put into these videos. I was thinking of buying the K18 shampoo, but now I think I should buy the Quidad shampoo. My hair is very find and porous. A bottle of shampoo lasts me about a year because I only shampoo once a week. Thank you again!
What a wonderful channel! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience for beautiful hair! I've always struggled with my 2c hair, and ever since dying it, I haven't had the same amount of curl I used to! I've been doing tons of research on how to repair, and I'm so happy to have stumbled across your videos. Thank you!
I like the Kinky Curly Come clean for my clarifying shampoo. Their website says this is good at removing hard water. I also use Oribe Beautiful Color for my regular shampoo.
That's really interesting about cowashs and hard water . We live in a very hard water area and I've tried several and none really do the job of cleansing and hair feels claggy . Really informative video.
Have you looked into Viori shampoo and conditioner bars? I've used them for over a year and have been really happy with the results. I'd love for you to try them out and share your opinions.

Hi Gena! I have permed spiral hair but have been lately treating it like natural curly hair vs my old hair pattern. Do you have any recommendations for chemically altered hair like myself? I love your videos and find them very informative❤️

My hair is curly What do you do when you have a bad wash day due to the products you used? I feel like I want to wash it all out the next day and start over with new products. I’m new to the curly hair community, learning lots, thanks for your informative videos
I garden and get sweaty almost daily! I rinse my hair out bc of this almost daily, then wash with a co-wash once a week, then a moisturizing shampoo once a week too. I have drier hair. I’d like to hear tips or ideas for someone in my situation.
I have the same situation. I do the same thing with the Curlsmith cowash once a week. I don’t like dry shampoo because my hair doesn’t get greasy and it’s dry. So I’ve purchased the Ouidad workout spray. It works okay to refresh my scalp without powder. Still looking for better products for “working out “ since I get sweaty outside.
@@juanitabridges6808 no I don’t use dry shampoo either. Just not a fan. My hair does better the less product I put in it. So just leave in conditioner, oil and sometimes curl cream/curl gel.
I tried the Prose and my hair was coming out in handfuls. I switched Carol's Daughter Monoi shampoo and the breakage is repairing, minimal hair loss, hair is stronger.
@@GenaMarie I appreciate the response, but question if a dry shampoo is going to work on hair that is literally dripping wet; I've not used a dry shampoo, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster; I feel I understated my definition of "very sweaty"; my hair, especially at the back, is most definitely soaked with sweat
Hi Gena, can you recommend any clarifying shampoos for very sensitive scalps? My doctor suggested I may be allergic to sulfates and fragrances. Alternatively are there hacks like adding an oil before detox shampoo?
This is not technically labeled as clarifying but it does contain ingredients that are known to clarify and it's fragrance free: amzlink.to/az0dswmcRSlAF Another option would be to use the Malibu packets which you just mix with water: amzlink.to/az0Syh1FOjfwP

Not trying to be difficult or pose a gotcha lol, but the Curl Talk Bond Building says "with protein" on the label. Just wondering if there's a difference between the protein in it and other types of protein, maybe? I think I might be overdoing the protein because my hair has almost no elasticity, but I also know it's helped in the past so I'm trying to find a good balance 😊
Yes, there is a difference between amino acids and proteins. The Curl Talk shampoo contains "Rice Amino Acids" which is not the same as an ingredient such as "Hydrolyzed rice protein." From what I've researched, amino acids are the building blocks of protein and do not behave in the same way as full-blown proteins. Amino acids are able to penetrate and absorb into the hair, so they don't sit on the surface causing that stiff feeling that can happen from full proteins. Because of their low chance of causing protein overload, they are a great way for people with protein-sensitive hair to strengthen their hair. I should have clarified this difference in the video. I realize that NYM labels this as "with protein" but I think it is still suitable for all.
@@GenaMarie thanks for taking the time to clarify that for me! I decided to give it a try and WHAT. A. DIFFERENCE. My last shampoo and conditioner had straight up protein and even with the moisturizing ingredients included, and the moisturizing products after it, it never felt moisturized at all. I could feel the difference immediately after rinsing the conditioner out and my hair looks fabulous today!
When I wash my hair it gets very tangled and feels dry. After conditioning, it does soften, however it’s still tangly and dry, especially on top. Don’t know if this is a shampoo or conditioner issue. If you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it 🙂
Hey Gena, I just received the NYM Bond Building in the mail and it says it has protein in it yet your site says it is protein free. You may want to update. I bought these thinking they were protein free based on your site…luckily if I don’t like I can return to Ulta 😊
I consider it protein-free because it contains amino acids and not proteins. It contains "Rice Amino Acids" which are not the same as an ingredient such as "Hydrolyzed rice protein." Ah I see. Well those also contain similar ingredients. I’ve been researching this more a lot this week and hope to share soon about the differences between amino acids and proteins. Let me know how it goes. Oftentimes, the straw like feeling from protein just means that your hair needs more conditioning.
