I think there are only two ways this amazing game could fail. 1st: no max lvl content. 2nd: a bad cash shop. Other than that it looks hella promissing.
Are there many videos out there that go into the different combat systems? Mounts and other art is good, but that's not why most people play a MMORPG - and people have gotten used to getting burned with MMORPG development over the past decade lol.

We just had a Alpha 1 release during July 14 - August 15 2021. Alpha 2 is next but the date has not been announced yet. And if you are asking for a full release date, I'm afraid we have absolutely no clue yet. (There are some speculations about the final release date in the community tho. I can tell you about those if you are just looking for some copium lol)

The thing is, they are doing lots of things behind the scenes that are probably way more interesting than the hair update lul. But they cannot share everything with us. If they showed you everything about Ashes on the stream, wouldn't you be already bored of the game at launch?

It does have lots of things going for it, but lots of things could also ruin it, indeed
if it has a robust leveling experience the endgame would only be a ancillary goal, not all MMOs treat the pre-max level as a throw away grind.

2023 is probably way too soon. expect a persistent alpha 2 for about at most a year than one or two years to go through beta 1 and 2
