Nice review mate! 👌 By the way, the 3 blade head is very noticeable in flight in the vid. It's probably due to the filming process though. This model is almost a carbon copy of WL Toys AS350. The WL Toys RTF came with a switchable-mode Tx, which I'd never seen before. Pretty amazing for around $120 (AUD). Sadly, they may have discontinued the line as I don't see them on Ebay now. Hey John, was looking at that neat little bird. I was wondering if you can bind the Heli to the Spektrum nx10 using your technic by using the jr/spectrum satellite receiver
My word, things have come on since I flew my Ikarus Piccolo and Century Hummingbird using a JR 3310 (which i still have !!) - I even had a vac form mould made so I could make and sell AS350 bodies for the Piccolo - but they were so under powered back then it just about made it into the hover ! - this little heli looks the business, especially being CP and tri-bladed
I have a 450, every "crash" almost full rebuild - I love this, I`ve crashed it often & still goes, albeit the scale parts are broken. It is very durable, spare parts are cheap. I would suggest a sympler ccp to start , though. E.g.: WLtoys V977 if you can find it.
When I was a kid (late 50's early 60's) I had a toy die cast helicopter that I "flew" everywhere I went. We lived in a big city then and I think about how it must have looked to people in the street. They must have gotten a kick out of it. I would dream of having a toy helicopter that could do this. But don't you get bored just zipping it around aimlessly? Try going for a walk with it. Bet you'll enjoy it !
Absolutely nothing boring about flying a collective pitch RC heli from a fixed position; right from these cheap little buggers, up to the big electric, gas, nitro, and turbine powered ones. It's all engaging and requires maximum focus. Of course the adrenaline rush with the big ones is a huge fix on its own. And no, no one should ever try walking while flying a collective pitch RC helicopter. It's dangerous, and very much frowned upon. Do that at an RC flying club and they would have your hide.
I'm equaly amazed at the little helicopter and the radio :P My DX6i doesn't even have a LCD backlight. If it started speaking I'd probably burn it xD But that FrSky radio was really cool :P
Great review and John, I love that radio your using....definitely have to work my way up to that...may I ask what camera are you using and is it a hat cam of sorts.
My first chopper was a 350 class bird I had nearly 8 years ago. For the life of me, could never fly it. Then, started my interest in quadcopters. 7 years and I'm a pretty good quadcopter pilot. Purchased a flybar brushless WL Toys V912 just recently.. I guess my quadcopter skills made it easy to fly. Indoors that is. Today, did some flying around the house outside and nosed it in the ground. Broke a few connection links in the main rotor. I think a combination of the cold temp and losing power. Do you find the collective pitch birds do better with handling the main rotor tilting and gaining speed without losing altitude? Also, I have a rule of thumb on quads... Want to fly outside? Got to go minimum of 2 cell for the power. IMO, anything one cell is just under powered..
What remote are you using? Love the voice prompts “ it’s about to get real’ & “ you may wanna think about landing’” thanks for the vid. I see in your comments about the remote. Thanks
John love your channel. I love your style of flying too. I have to ask you a question what kind of transmitter are you using. I have the WLtoys V977 More of a 3D Helicopter. You like the Scalers which are nice as well.
I'd actually would love to have a helicopter like this. The only helicopter I have is a WLTOYS V950. The only problem is it's size is small which could mean it wears out after 1 month or so. I mean its almost $200 and the mechanics look very protected
Hi John, great video and thanks for your amazing website. I am right now in the point of jump from 4ch to 6ch. I am right now looking for a proper rc radio. Do you think an open tx radio like the t16 or the taranis is it too difficult for a beginner? I really like to thinker with all the computer and coding things. Have you added or planed to add how to use and setup helis in open tx in your ebooks? Thank you so much for your amazing work.
Hi Marco. There's no question the Open TX learning curve is fairly steep (at least I sure thought it was); but if you are into that kind of stuff, you might find it a piece of cake. As I recommend to anyone thinking of getting into OpenTX, the best thing you can do is spend a good deal of time at the Open TX university website. open-txu.org/ If the info makes sense and appeals to the inner RC nerd in you, then you should have no problem. I'm about 20 months now into my OpenTX journey and I'm still figuring out cool stuff you can do with it. Just like learning to fly a CP heli, learning Open TX is a "many stages" learning process - my anecdotal experience with it anyways. Collective pitch setup is the same on an OpenTX radio as it is with any radio. Pitch curves, throttle curves, dual and exponential rates, channel output, channel centering, and channel reversing are all the same. If you can setup a collective pitch heli on a traditional computerized radio, you can set one up on a radio running Open TX. The main difference is in how the information is displayed, and the insane amount of flexibility and customization you have the ability to access. As just one example, 32 programmable curves are available if you wish with anywhere from 2 points up to 17. Hope that helps a bit.
@@Rchelicopterfun Thank you so much for your reply. I think I will go for the jumper t16 to use it with the simulator and learn how to set it up using your ebooks, opentx uni, my V911 and a xk or blade 6ch helicopter that I will buy in the near future. Thank you so much again :)

Hello John, in this video you mentioned that this helicopter would not be good for beginners learning to fly as it has some fragile parts. I have recently gotten into the hobby using a coaxial helicopter (syma s111g) and am looking to take a step up and try to learn to fly collective pitch. Do you have any recommendations for me on which models would be good to start with? I much prefer a machine that actually looks like a helicopter which is why I have gravitated towards the XK models. I appreciate any recommendations that you can provide, thank you.
I cover good beginner collective pitch helicopters to start with on my best RC helicopter page on my website: www.rchelicopterfun.com/best-rc-helicopter.html If you specifically want to stick with XK, then the XK-K110 is a great micro sized first CP heli to learn on. I mention it on that page as well as some others, but the K110 is pretty hard to beat in terms of value and robustness. I've done a review on it as well: ua-cam.com/video/2yIB2-KSZyk/v-deo.html
Hi John, a little story/question for you. My cousin bought a K123 from Motion RC, but they must have gotten a bad batch. On the first one that I set up and flew for him the tail motor would go out sporadically in flight on only the second or third pack. I was able to land somewhat softly the couple times it happened while flying circuits around my yard. The second K123 he got after the other was returned had the same problem, I set it up, test flew it a couple times just hovering around and a few days later he flew it and had the same thing happen! Except this time it crashed hard and the swashplate popped apart. Any idea on if it would be the motor, or the board? The first one had the wires out of the back of the motor damaged when the factory installed it, the second heli looked fine though.
Thanks! Didn’t know about motion rc. Will pick one up. Can’t decide between the k123 and 124. Which did u feel flew best? Will mainly do scale flying around the house/yard with a good bit of expo and d/r. Not the best pilot, struggle with nose in but have fun nonetheless
K124 flew a marginally better, but it's also much harder to see at distance due to the dark blue livery. I like flying the K123 for that reason alone, but to each their own.
i bought one it flew great, but the batteries only lasted around 4 months and it was impossible to get replacements. Whole thing had to be trashed. In the end, great fun while it lasted, but a total waste of money.
1S 500mah packs for these things are easy to find and they are inexpensive. LiPo care will dictate usable life span (storage voltage, how far they are drained down during use, etc). Trashing a good workable micro CP heli as you claim over the inability to source cheap 1S 500mAh LiPo packs? All I can say is interesting...
John Salt, I'm dying 😂😂😂here just happened to read your reply "All I Can Say Is Interesting" permission to use that when the need arises, actually says more than just saying what you really think Ahahaahahah!
looks fantastic. how did you set your radio for the model i.e the switches and channels for gyro and acro modes. I've bought the k124 , but stuck in the process of setting up my taranis with irx4. Any help would be accepted.
It's the same as mapping the channels and switch functions in OpenTX to any model in your memory. Channel 5 is what toggles between the gyro/accelerometer selection on XK's line of helis.
Great Review! I'm wondering for practicing General Flying & 3D flight would i be better off getting a Trex 150 size or the XK, I do love the scale detail though and would fly in both modes equally. Regards
As I said & demonstrated in the review, the K123 is too heavy & underpowered for 3D. So yes the Trex 150x is a better all round heli that covers a larger flying style or the XK K120 or K130 if you wanted to stick with XK brand. Out of the three, there is no question the 150x is the better micro heli, but it costs twice as much.
@@Rchelicopterfun Aah I must look at these other models you mentioned. I suppose I'm asking to much to have 3D flight and scale model in one that can do both well and still be micro sized 🤣. Thanks for info. subbed. 👍
I am trying to make a fire fighting rc helicopter. Would it work if I got a small Dixie cup and attached it to the heli with a thread? I would then either fill up the cup or have it get picked up from a pond. I would also make a water dropping mechanism. Would it work?
Hi I bought an xk123 and use opentx like you, but I'm inexperienced on programming. Could you share the programming file? I use it as a school. Thank you
Hi John!! How could you bind Irangex IR4+ with the chopper?? I made your procedure enterely without positive results! I have the same Tx and External module and this crap do NOTHING!!! Neither on PPM protocol in OpenTx, it used to work on FrOs!!! It's frustating!
All of XK's helis use S-FHSS protocol and that is a protocol supported by the multi module and works fine. I just followed the instructions on multi-modules website to pair the module to my horus, no issues in either PPM mode or serial, but serial is superior. Not crap - very powerful and works a treat!
I just got one of these about a week ago and loving it. But I'm curious if you can ease the sensitivity (dual rate?) with the XK Transmitter that comes with it, because indeed, she's a bit touchy.
Yes you can... Like any CP helicopter setup 🙂 I go over the basics of the X6 radio if you are not sure how to program D/R on it: ua-cam.com/video/lzW9m8899Tk/v-deo.html
Hello. because this is 3 blade model I´m wondering if I can set up correctly with the instructions in your ebook, I´m new with the CP helicopters and this was a gift so I´m having a hard time with this model. thank you
Yes, collective pitch setup is universal. Just a little trickier with 3 blades, but you can still fold two of the blades back to confirm zero collective and set your pitch curve for min max collective range using the wedge method.
These are the FrSky "umbrella" ends. All FrSky stick ends use M4 threads so you have to make sure your specific radio is either M4 or M3 (many radios have M3 gimbal sticks so these wouldn't fit). Most FrSky dealers will carry them. Google search FrSky Unbrella stick end (either M4 or M3). Got mine from RotorGeeks here in Canada.

Sure wish these were available somewhere in the US. Overseas shipping takes forever
They are. Amazon, Motion RC & several other hobby shops (Google search)
Very good!
Si può utilizzare con la trasmittente della versione precedente v931?
I wish I have one of those
What's the price of your large one? In the beginning of the video and the price?
I'm wondering how much money you make to review these products if any!
looks fantastic. how did you set your radio for the model i.e the switches and channels for gyro and acro modes.
Nice flying
😂yeah it will fly inverted, only with a skilled pilot like yourself. Great flying buddy.
Ordered! Can you reduce the head speed at all or would you loose too much control?
Like any CP heli, to a point before you lose cyclic authority or overheat the ESC.
@@RchelicopterfunI appreciate the reply. I’ll be keeping out of the Canadian winter and hopefully flying around the house.
Hi I bought an xk123 and use opentx like you, but I'm inexperienced on programming. Could you share the programming file? I use it as a school. Thank you
lol i want one now. wish it was like 40$ cheaper so i could get one.
yomustdie 94 save boss
Did the radio say “shits about to get real”. When you turned the dual rates off?
Yep :-)
I think i need to get one of these :)
Should I buy K123 or K124?
what radio are you using? i wanna check it out might buy it it looks cool
I show and say @ 2:10
The one on the tailboom ‘Anteena’ i guess
VOR antenna
Écureuil ! Cool
I just got one of these about a week ago and loving it. But I'm curious if you can ease the sensitivity (dual rate?) with the XK Transmitter that comes with it, because indeed, she's a bit touchy.
Yes you can... Like any CP helicopter setup 🙂
I go over the basics of the X6 radio if you are not sure how to program D/R on it: ua-cam.com/video/lzW9m8899Tk/v-deo.html
@@Rchelicopterfun Amazing, thank you!
Homer's helicopter: MAX POWEER!!!
Lol I remember that episode
Bahahaha I always said anyone who would remember that episode is worth marrying! So dm me and I'll make the arrangements. 😜
@@ChicagoDeepHouseHead crazy xd
Do they make an ass355 or twinstar i so need one of them
Hello.
because this is 3 blade model I´m wondering if I can set up correctly with the instructions in your ebook, I´m new with the CP helicopters and this was a gift so I´m having a hard time with this model.
thank you
Yes, collective pitch setup is universal. Just a little trickier with 3 blades, but you can still fold two of the blades back to confirm zero collective and set your pitch curve for min max collective range using the wedge method.
@@Rchelicopterfun thank you very much, I´m going to buy the ebook soon.
John, where can I find the thumb paddles similar to the ones on your transmitter sticks? Thanks!
@@Rchelicopterfun I'm always a bit surprised but grateful, on how prompt you have always been in responding to the various questions asked of you during the last couple of years. I know that other viewers feel the same way too. From my personal experience, it's very rare for a UA-camr to answer questions like this, especially with older videos. Thanks for making the time to do that. It has been very helpful to me now, and in the past. Please keep making these wonderfully informative and objective videos, take care.
I've never seen a radio that speaks! That must be very expensive! What brand of radio is this?
Watch 2:10
It's Alexa transmitter. _"Alexa, fly helicopter for me."_
I avoid copters as i have poor eye hand coordination due to bad eyes............
Why does that voice notification on the controller sound so sexy? LOL
Where do you buy rc Big helicopter
wow cool..
I don't want to spend a lot of money but I need a transmitter that will work with that helicopter got any recommendations?
The "best value" option is XK's X6. Here's my full review on it: ua-cam.com/video/lzW9m8899Tk/v-deo.html
@@Rchelicopterfun I will check out video... Thanks for replying
Utterly charming.....
