Goodbye Cadets 1934-2024 This band has been so influential for so many years, this band helped shape dci into what it is now and what it was 40 years ago and so. It's a shame I had never been able to see a cadets show but this is one of their best shows ever.
The mellos just own this show. Their precision and grace is breathtaking to listen to. Even in the ballad, you hear them soar above the ensemble and drive them towards the final resolution.
@Pengua aaaaahhh nooooooo. 😛jk. at the same time tho I don't want to be stuck in the past. So I try to appreciate the new stuff too even if I'm not into it. I respect the pageantry of the love fire and tears involved for the love of music ❤️
I would be very happy if some drum corps adopted a 2003-style approach, with no amplification, props, or electronophones whatsoever, but still retaining the front ensemble. It would inject some much-needed variety into modern drum corps competitions. Heck, someone should bring back Lee Enfeld rifles! (for context, in the 1960s, the Cavaliers [then known as the Chicago Cavaliers] and the Toronto Optimists spun Lee Enfeld rifles, and they weighed 9 pounds. The Optimists even spun them with bayonets attached!)
I have the highest respect for the performers and designers of today. However I can’t help but to feel that DCI lost some of the things that made it unique by including things that it once didn’t. Which is kind of wild for me to say, I’m all for things evolving 😅 I’m just not fond of the modern aesthetic.
I’ve listen to this recording so much. I really enjoy the two on top of three clapping hands heard in the recording at 2:38 seconds right before the corp hit. Start listening at 2:34. I smile every time. And I still get chills during the ballad.
As was I. I was standing down on the field almost in front of them as the scores were announced (I marched with them the previous year.) It was surreal.
Can we talk about 6:18 to 6:38 ? This has to be one of the most difficult sustains of all time from the hornline, as they are absolutely booking it at almost 200 bpm. The drumline is playing with so much control as they literally are running across the field. The colorguard is basically jazz running while performing intricate and demanding work, and they are So Clean. The entire corps NAILS the halt and the form is perfect. These are elite musical athletes right here, and in my opinion the difficulty of that moment is seldom paralleled in the activity.
It took me a while to "get" this show. Not only do I get it now, I can watch it over and over. The Mark Sylvester visuals (and Jeff) are so missed. I have a hard time with body suits and the extreme amount of body work (I like some of it) that I can't connect with modern DCI. This is what thrills me. OH that finale!!! CLASSIC CADETS at its very best...
@@TheRailwayDrone wait, we're talking about the toilet bowl, (10:57) aren't we? I mean yeah, this version is more elaborate and 8 counts longer, but I've always thought of them as the same. it's only technically 'the toilet bowl' for the final 8 counts, yes.
That would just make me sick if they’re going to fold…I hope they can come back in 2025. I don’t know if it’s financial or more, but hoping it’s something Cadets can recover from 😢
@@DanCron yes a true gut punch. I feel like knowing I’ll never get to see the Cadets in person again is just a massive void. They played the first dci show I ever attended DATR 1993, and I’ve seen them just about every year (or close to) since. I can about look out my window to see where I watched them rehearse that iconic 2002 show. Every time I drive past that field, I think about how fun that was to watch them rehearse and then to watch the show that night. I’m sad but very thankful that they left us with such iconic breathtaking overjoyed musical moments. You’ll be forever in my heart Cadets…RIP
@@davewrobertsI too was at DATR 1993! What a great night that was! So many amazing performances. That was also my first live viewing of the Cadets (I absolutely love that show)-and not to mention my first, and unfortunately last, live viewing of Star of Indiana. So hard to believe those two legendary corps are no longer with us. But yes, they will live on in our hearts!
The music this year was surprisingly boring, but they executed it so well. Just listen to the dynamics and precision. I remember after a long rehearsal our corps was allowed to go watch the Cadets rehearse since they were practicing in a nearby field, and as good as we were and as highly as we placed, we all just knew these guys were one notch above us. Even in rehearsal while they marched in the dark, we could tell. It was a humbling, but wonderful experience.
I got one of those cool DIV2 Championship tie rings from 98. That counts! Stonehenge in person was so strong, I remember the stands just automatically jumping up during the last drill push
This perfect score is one thing, but I marched Cadets 2002 and I can tell you Cavaliers were the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen on field and trying to chase them down 2 points the entire season was the reason half our corps lost 30-50lbs over the summer.
@@Corpus11of10 Looking at old rehearsal videos of 02 Cadets that I found, there seems to be a bunch of content that never made it into the Finals run. Why was that?
@@Corpus11of10 There was an entire segment from On the Town that went missing, not counting a baritone (or euphonium?) solo that got moved to another segment of On the Town. There was also 2 or so chords right before the concert Fsharp major chord in the sopranos--errr...trumpets at the end of the show.

the proper term is corps, not band. . . . . but your assessment is right on the money.
5:53 Crazy mello run👀

Mellos owned it. But this drill was deep
I concur. Mellos were fantastic!
I agree especially the lick at 5:52
Perfect visual score, amazing drill, incredible ballad release, stunning tenor feature, and a pedal to the metal ending. It's got it all
GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME
It's so taut, exciting, playful, majestic, and has lots of 🎩 magic without all the bells and whistles corps have nowadays.
@@danielaguilera474 i also like the bells and whisltes of today :)

The ballad. Tears every time.
Canterbury is all time
Those G mellophones have a certain sweet sound that the modern equivalents lack. A bit more of a fragile and trebly quality imo.

so do I. it's almost like it's part of the show.
This was such a spectacular show! I was in the audience for finals here :)

Me too. When it ended, I said "this was the perfect performance of a perfect show." I still believe it.
The lick 👅
Thank you, Cadets, for the great performances. You changed the activity, and your tragic loss will be felt for a long time.
One of my favorites, thanks for your great music and shows. God bless you cadets 1934-2024❤

That last chord blew my head off
rip
Seeing this on PBS was the beginning of my love for DCI as a teen trumpet player
I was there! There was no question in my mind as to who won that night. This show is so crazy awesome!
using this video as a petition to bring back G bugles
11:08 to the end is one of my favorite parts fr.
Cadets own the 90s, and I say that as a Cavies fan as well
Yeah they did. 2000 show was Crazy tambien
to think they're not fielding a corps at all this year is so sad
Stunning visual production 💗 I love it
They need to bring this back on the field!!! Or maybe year 93!!
THE MELLOPHONES!!! OMG!!!
Wow, F-u tech director for the camera change at 5:26... that solo was hot!!!
Someone on Reddit just asked what was the greatest show of the 20th century- it was this one
