John Towner Williams KBE (born February 8, 1932 is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career that has spanned seven decades, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable and critically acclaimed film scores in cinema history. Williams has won 25 Grammy Awards, five Academy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. With 53 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. His compositions are considered the epitome of film music, and he is considered among the greatest composers in the history of cinema, as well as all time.
Williams has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for all but five of his feature films, and George Lucas, with whom he has worked on both of his main franchises. His early work as a film composer includes The Killers (1964), How to Steal a Million (1966), Valley of the Dolls (1967), and Goodbye Mr. Chips (1969). He has received five Academy Awards for Best Original Score for his work on Fiddler on the Roof (1971), Jaws (1975), E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial (1982), Star Wars (1977), and Schindler's List (1993). Williams has composed for many popular films including the Star Wars saga, Superman, the first two Home Alone films, the Indiana Jones films, the first two Jurassic Park films, and the first three Harry Potter films. Other memorable film scores from his collaboration with Spielberg include Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Hook (1991), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012), and The Fabelmans (2022).
Williams has also composed numerous classical concertos and other works for orchestral ensembles and solo instruments. He served as the Boston Pops' principal conductor from 1980 to 1993 and is its laureate conductor. Other works by Williams include theme music for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, NBC Sunday Night Football, "The Mission" theme used by NBC News and Seven News in Australia, the television series Lost in Space and Land of the Giants, and the incidental music for the first season of Gilligan's Island. Williams announced but then rescinded his intention to retire from film score composing after the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in 2023.
In 2005, the American Film Institute selected Williams's score to 1977's Star Wars as the greatest film score of all time. The Library of Congress entered the Star Wars soundtrack into the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl's Hall of Fame in 2000, and he received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2004. His AFI Life Achievement Award in 2016 was the first to be awarded outside of the acting and directing fields. He has composed the score for nine of the top 25 highest-grossing films at the U.S. box office (adjusted for inflation). His work has influenced other composers of film, popular, and contemporary classical music.

I'm fortunate to have lived during an era when contemporary symphony music was as great as the classics. People like John Williams made that possible. ❤
Absolutely agreed. My life would have never been the same if it wasn't for the influence of John Williams. Every time I hear one of his pieces, it brings me hope and gives me joy. Each piece has such emotion and reason behind it. Not only that, the melodies and worlds he creates through music is just magical. Hence why he is one of the most recognized film composers of all time.
Yes, We know the taste of real cinema. Younger generations are doomed by political crap.
Not too many remaining honestly but the ones that do are fantastic!
@@flashlightbeam3487 Sadly, you're right!!!
Only his music can transport you back in time to when we watched the movie for the first time and be a kid again.
John Williams will always remain one of the best contemporary composers of our time.
❤❤❤❤❤ a única palavra que tenho para John Williams.e....GENIO.Talentosissimo...Fantástico...Único....😌até me emociono viu...☺🤠😍
Yes! And I would add… not just contemporary, but one of the greatest music composers of all time period!
In 500 years, music students will be studying this piece. Thats John Williams' legacy. He has left his mark on music.
John williams is a living legend.
Look how intently they are playing. Each one wants this to be PERFECT
The third oboeist will settle for MOSTLY GOOD. These terrible sequels are sapping her determination.
It don’t matter how many time I’ve each one of these I still get chills when I here this theme
Look at the musicians smiling.
@@ricksanchez5949 Even John Williams was smiling, dude. This is a labor love by the people involved in this.
That’s a man who is proud of his work.
I just love how happy he is!
Greatest conductor ever!
How can you not feel like an absolute superhero listening to this!??
Around 2:50 and on I always start to cry.
So beautiful
@@user-xn3qm2il4l Thank you very much
that smile on john’s face says it ALL!
The joy in Williams face his so good
John’s recent years of collaboration with Sophie have brought his lifetime of music a whole new dimension. 🤯
True Story: John came to Steven with 2 musical ideas for the theme. Steven answered, "Can't we use BOTH?" The first one is the now-immortal main theme, and the other is the bridge.......
Thank you for the beautiful music, John Williams. this has got to be one of my favourite scores of all time! Words cannot describe how stunning this is. I love Indiana Jones so much
I remember watching the movie at the Imperial theater in Montreal in its original run, and walking out of the theater with this song playing as the end credits, with goose bumps on my arms. I will remember this forever. What a fabulous and such a fabulous score!
It's impossible watching this precisou artwork and don't cry! Amazing! Songs from heaven!
I cry because the first time i heard this was in 1981 seeing Raiders with my Dad at the Odeon Cinema in Liverpool
I was there... and I fucking cried like a baby 😍😍🌞😇
Beautiful. It’s a shame, but Williams will only be honored, as he should have been in about 100 years from now,… HONESTLY, … Listen. His music will be pondered, performed and adored forever.
John Williams is the GOAT!
Amazing!!! Never tired, never gets old!!! God bless John Williams!
Music is about love and passion Amazing orchestra perfection

Genius.. Mr.Williams.
I LOVE YOU❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Timeless like that of chopin, wagner, liszt, puccini, verdi, mahler. John, a fellow Aquarius
BEYOND GORGEOUS HEART FELT MOVING IN ALL OUR HEARTS EYE WHICH LIKE YOU CALL IT ON EARTH NOTHING LIKE IT
When a superstar solo violinist plays along with the orchestra, she is a true music lover.
I was there... she just didn't wanna leave the stage... and everybody loved it. it's such a beautiful addition to the middle part 😍😍
The best in the business
I love the xylophone work at the latter part of the performance. We need to bring the xylophone back for epic music scores.
Hey, percussionist and composer here! that instrument is called glockenspiel (or simply orchestral bells), its range is similar to a xylophone, but it's made of metal and its notes ring for a long time after you hit them, modern glockenspiels come with a pedal system that dampens the bars with felt, similar to a vibraphone. A xylophone is made of wood and its very dry sounding, in fact, the prefix "xylo" means wood. That's how you can tell them apart.
@@Zelgeon My apologies. I do love the instrument and I apologize for misnaming it.
This piece makes my heart beat faster.
Amazing.
We're all fortunate to have experienced Mr Williams. Greatest composer of our time! Zimmer is great but Williams sticks to your ribs
Ein Genie!
3:04 this is my favourite part, as well as 5:28
John Williams wrote my 3 favorite movie themes/scores, as I was born in 1972, and grew up with the films of George Lucas, and especially, Steven Spielberg!!! Among movie composers, I simply refer to him as "GOD"!!!
(BTW, this is a MAGNIFICENT rendtion of #3 on my list..........INDY!!!!)
What are the first two if you don't mind me asking?
I'm guessing it's the Imperial March and the theme from Schindler's List? At least they're my three favorites from John Williams. 😊
That’s Dope
2:30 It reminds me of the humorous kissing scene between Harrison Ford and Karen Allen after the Ark was taken back from the enemy.Festival!!!❤
❤
hermoso :')
Loving Anne Sophie Mutter on violin. Is that a Strad???
This is quite slow, considering it's Maestro Williams conducting!😊
I can’t decide which is the more heroic theme this or Superman
Try these other marches by John Williams - Midway, 1941, and of course The Imperial March.
Paramount pictures best movie ever
Which one is the more rousing/heroic(no pun intended)Superman or Raiders
😊
1.25 speed is good
Know what is great about this clip? The audience is sitting in their seats enjoying the performance, letting the music fill them with awe. How refreshing that is instead of some idgit blocking people's view so they can record on their phone to get five viewers on UA-cam or TikTok.
This is the Musikverein in vienna. What the hell are you talking about? Of course the audience is sitting down
I was there. we knew it would be recorded cuz there were cameras all around xD so.. barely no one thought of taking a vid haha
❤OdLičniSòDnevi ❤
❤zGLasbo ❤
I don't know classical and names well...but would you say Williams is the Beethoven of our time? Because I listen to this music and it really does make me feel something. Even if it wasn't attached to film, by themselves they are beautiful works.
now listen... doctors have conducted colonoscopy to Harrison Ford to this theme! LOL
Simply: thanks 🫡
