    MMA is an extremely popular sport which combines any number of martial arts and styles, including Sambo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Wrestling, Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai and many more. The focus of MMA is not to train one style, but to combine striking, grappling, wrestling and submissions in order to successfully defeat your opponent.
    The sport has grown tremendously over the last decade and the largest MMA promotion by far is the UFC. The Las Vegas based UFC holds most of the elite fighters in the world and has been called home by such stars as Jon Jones, GSP, Ronda Rousey, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Brock Lesnar, BJ Penn, Rampage Jackson, Shogun Rua, Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Urijah Faber, TJ Dillashaw, Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen, Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem, Michael Bisping, Nick Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock and many more.
    ---
    Brazilian Jiu Jitsu originated from Japan under Mitsuyo Maeda, but was made wildly popular and famous by the Gracie family. In the early 90's Royce Gracie brought BJJ into the mainstream, by winning the first ever UFC tournament. Since then, BJJ has become one of the most popular and practiced martial arts. BJJ is known for it's submission grappling based techniques the basic principal of position over submission.
    It has also been successfully used by famous MMA and UFC fighters such as Demian Maia, Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Nogueira, Frank Mir, B.J. Penn, Rousimar Palhares, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Andre Galvao, Renzo Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Nick Diaz, Roger Gracie, and many more.

    Me and a buddy had a grappling contest and I went for a single leg take down and totally revealed my neck in seconds which allowed him to use an easy guillotine and I was out before I could think of the escape. That totally opened my eyes to how I need to now get caught in those.

    Instead of releasing the leg with that hip switch, you can sit down on your foot, locking it down and just ground and pound from the quarter mount.

    I really dislike the fact that you pass guard to the side where your head is... pass to the other side and you don't have to worry about a choke at all because he could not finish it when you the center line of his body.

    very nice buddy! May i suggest, do a continuation of this technique where you figure four the lead leg and roll or break fall to the side for a knee bar. It's one of my favorite things to do. Beautifully explained and execute.

    Isn't this the same as doing a head to the outside single leg takedown, which is very easy to catch a guillotine from? He can still wrap his arm around your neck and eventually hook the non trapped leg around you, the sort of marcelotine.
    Correct me if I'm wrong though, I am a white belt.

    I don't see how this prevents the guillotine , because if he got your head then you'd be passing on the wrong side that would make his guillotine worse. Iif you get guillotined then you need to pass across his body , not pass to the side of this body.

      It's a combination of them,
      the first one is closing in on the opponent for a takedown,
      the second is a leg reap for the takedown,
      and the third is the counter to a guard.

      lilahk95 why do you say , seems like it leads into a good pinning combination

    • @D9Wx
      @D9Wx 7 років тому

      it might be because this takedown is less powerful than a normal double leg, and it requires from timing and less power to pulll through.
      And in mma u can use punching to counter with a take-down which makes it easier and timing is more importan. Timing is always important, but theres a diffrence.

    Unlike Judo, most BJJ takedowns rely on a fake and then a forward movement of your center of gravity directed towards your opponent's center of gravity. The only reason why it works so well against a boxer is because of the boxer's front-rear stance which limits his side movements. In other words, a boxer can move in and out but not sideways. If I always maintain a lateral stance instead of a front-rear stance. Whenever a BJJ fighter moves whether fake or attack, I simply move laterally to the blind side of the BJJ guy's front leg. The forward movement of the center of gravity of the BJJ guy will always miss my center of gravity. This is simple physics.

    • @connar8852
      @connar8852 8 років тому +6

      A boxer can move sideways very well have you seen Ali? Also a boxer can pivot around

    • @ArthurHau
      @ArthurHau 8 років тому

      Of course you can move laterally when you stand laterally. But when you have either an orthodox or a southpaw stance, you cannot move your center of gravity laterally IN ONE SINGLE MOVE. This is simple physics. A laterally stance allows you to move laterally in one single move. A front-rear stance allows you to move forward or backward in one single move. This is also physics. Use your brain!

    • @connar8852
      @connar8852 8 років тому

      +Arthur Hau a boxer can still pivot around you in one move and good boxers can move any direction very efficiently I do judo and box so I know how to move

    • @mongolchiuud8931
      @mongolchiuud8931 5 років тому

      Artur Hau - what do you mean by "Unlike Judo, most BJJ takedowns rely on a fake and then a forward movement"....
      A huge part of Judo's success in throws is because they practice "Kuzushi" which means breaking your opponents balance first before applying the throw or take down. Kuzushi can be a feint, pushing or pulling motion to get an opponent to react disrupting their balance and center of gravity before a throw. And BJJ are not known for very good throws or take downs..
