Lived in Glenrothes my whole life, wont ever leave, yeah the town centre is rough but most of it is beautiful.
Loads of greenery, beautiful areas, its a lovely place to stay apart from the junkies but you get them everywhere

I live in Glenrothes and like it here but the kingdom centre seriously needs some modernising and a lick of paint on the buildings around it. Some need demolished also.

I moved to Glenrothes in 1972, at the age of not quite 8. Lots of the places you visit there were just green fields back then: the only bits of what later became the Kingdom Centre that had been built were the older bits near the bus station, the big Co-op store that's now empty, and the even older shops across the road from there... All the area between there and the closed entrances that the guy was complaining about was just grass, with a path through the middle. There was only the Russian-looking office block back then - and it was called 'Glenrothes House', which was home to the then Glenrothes Development Corporation. The path to Flowers of May wasn't signposted back then, and was known to us kids as "The Gypsy Trail." As we grew a bit older it became part of some significant adventures during the school holidays! "The Town Park," as the part of Riverside Park under the bridge you're you're walking towards at 20:02, consisted of just the path up the left hand side - and grass. There were no bridges across the river - but at the far end, where the hippos are (and there used to be several more of them), there was a circular paddling pool - and built into that very steep hill was a bandstand, with toilets underneath - that were hardly ever open! There were concrete paths and steps up both sides, that crossed over and did another circle before meeting at the foot of a flight of stairs that reached the top of the hill, and a path that came out by the YMCA. It was a pretty good place to be a young kid, I have to admit; but for adolescents it's pretty much the opposite - and nearest thing we had to a cinema then was the twice-weekly films in the Leslie Regal, that did bingo on the other nights. All you could was walk, swim,, sports in the centre or golf. And get depressed, feel really isolated and ill-done to - and become mentally unwell... You are of course correct to say that its saving grace is that it is surrounded by the natural Fife countryside, but its not a place I remember with much pleasure; for my life went from bad to worse when I was there - and while to some extent I did eventually recover, it has certainly left many scars... The town artist in the 1970s was David Harding, incidentally. Google him - then return there and find all those mushrooms and other artistic creations of his. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Glenrothes is so massive it'd almost be impossible to cover it all
Cadham, Collydean, Pitcairn, Coul, Balgeddie, Whinnyknowe, Balbirnie, Pitcoudie, Balfarg, Auchmuty, Stenton, Finglassie, Macedonia, South Parks, Rimbleton... Caskieberran, so many other areas (37 in total - 5 are industrial estates, the rest are a mix of housing and woodland)

The broken windows should be fixed quickly, kids see some broken and break more. Police don't go after them.

I grew up in Glenrothes & it has some lovely parts. The Riverside park is really nice & there is some amazing town-art that is worth looking at. Lots of the roundabouts have statues or modern art on them. Great channel 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Nice work. Unfortunately Glenrothes is another great example of a town left to rot. It’s in a lovely spot but the town centre is a s#it hole. Council has not invested there in 30 years, industry moved out and so did the money. What was left was the low income population because no one moves there because it’s half way to nowhere. In the town, half of the decent shops closed in the Kingdom Centre and the rot set in. It’s like Cumberland just la bit less s#itty

I hear they are looking to invest in the centre soon . Should hopefully improve things.

Still plenty money getting put in to Glenrothes. Council offices and parks all well maintained compared to other Fife locations.

Glenrothes has some shit areas (mainly the places with buildings as they are all copy and pasted grey boxes) but the countryside just around it is stunning
