Great job, Peter! Thanks! I wish I had a mechanic like you in town!
thank you for watching! This is my way of giving back. helping people around the world learn something and save money while doing it!
Tackled the valve cover gaskets , tube seals and spark plugs after watching your video , went flawlessly thanks to your video , no leaks , you rocked it , thanks for your time and help
Awesome and congrats!!! Thanks for the love and watching!
Doing mine next weekend. This video defiantly helps.
I’m hunting for an oil consumption problem and came across this - replaced my valve cover gaskets and it went well thanks to you. Not having power tools sucks big ones though lol
Those spark plug seals are a PITA..any mechanic who takes the valve cover apart again would probably laugh as they see the gouge marks all over the place lol
Thank you sir !
Definitely helped me out some. I’ve been leaving oil for some time and it’s gradually gotten worse to figure out what I needed to do and UA-cam brought me here. Thank you very much!
Thanks to your video I successfully replaced my tundra 2006 4.7 V8 valve covers. I just wanted to add a little contribution: It is important to tighten the cover bolts with the right torque. The torque is 53 inch /pound. Don't use foot/pounds. Anyhow, foot pounds would be 4.41 foot /pounds. It is better to use an small torque wrench with inch/pounds. Another thing,..Peter make it look easy, but be prepared, it isn't that easy, not impossible for a DYS, but requires focus. Take pictures to know how things were and will go. Great Video, Thank you very much.
Thank you. This was helpful.
Good work man. You remind me alot of my dad. I would go with him to his job when i was a young teen at toyota dealership to see him work on cars. He wasn't the best dad and left us but I got the good stuff from him like fixing cars and being handy at home. Thanks. Appreciate the video 👍👍
I just finished replacing my valve cover gaskets in my 03’ Tundra with 312k miles. Watching your video beforehand made it a smooth project.
Thank you so much!!!
Beautifully done. Any more videos you do on the 4.7 would be greatly appreciated!
the best DIY video I've seen so far on the 2UZFE engine! I wish you would do more videos on this engine like timing/water pump replacement and break job on the 02-07 sequoia platform. Thank you!
You removed and resealed those half moons. So many people forget those. I did on a Toyota 3.4 V6 once. Eventually, they do leak engine oil. Great attention to detail and cleaning the mating surfaces on the head.
Great video, shows the half moons which most people forget.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I just did both sides of my 2nd gen 07 4.7 tundra. Only difference is that it has some kind of secondary air injection valve on top of both sides of the spark plug areas. Made it a little more of a pain but doable. It seems to be leak free now. Your video was the best out there and very informative. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching and your kind words!! Yeah those valves aren’t too bad to take off, just annoying that you have to take it off lol
Thanks for the DIY video. I was replacing the VC gaskets on my 99 Landcruiser and was stumped on the tabs holding in the tube seals and your video was exactly what I needed to learn how to replace the seals.
HEY BRO! This is a wrenching video done right. Professional and Great notes....I especially like that you included links only to OEM parts. the dealership wants $915 for the valve cover gasket and tube seals + reseals. BLEH! Too easy. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for the love!! Glad i could assist and save you some money! Most people are too afraid to do these types of jobs but its pretty straight easy! Just a little time =)
Thanks for showing the right way to reinstalling the sparkplug gaskets 🥺👍
Just did this on my Lx470. Thanks for the in depth video it really helps!
Dustin Quast mine lx470 is leaking engine oil Thru these valve gaskets as well, it helps to remind me those gaskets needs to be replaced, besides a little smell does it affect who the engines runs if I change the oil every 5k and checks the dip stick it’s not low?
Nicely done video. 265000 on my 2006 Tundra and the covers finally started leaking. Great motor!
Love these engines! Million Mile Motors
Peter.... you did GREAT job for me !!! i just finished by your instruction and i am happy
big thank you from country Georgia ( not state ) :)
Thanks Peter.!!! you made my day so easy with this video.👌
THANK YOU A TON! You cut my time in half!
You should definitely do more videos! Did the valve cover gasket replacement from watching this video. Great explanation, and video. Well done bro.
Thanks for the love ✊🏼!! I know it’s been awhile 😞
That valvetrain is so clean.! Great video 👍
Thanks Peter for your great info on my daughter's 4Runner
Excellent video!.....Watched it several times before and then had it cued up when I did mine yesterday. Thank you so much!
Thank you 🙏🏻 for watching and gaining some Knowledge!!!
Super clean engine, I'm jealous
Great video, no BS, just meat and potatoes how to do a job, well done sir!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Very informative. My '04 Sequoia with 277k is definitely ready for new valve cover gaskets. I watched the video to see if it is something I can tackle myself for you see I have tendonitis in my wrists and I cannot use them much for heavy work and I have back issues and it is not easy for me to get up into the engine compartment. My bolts were loose on my covers and I did manage to tighten them hoping that would help, but I can still smell oil burning sometimes when I stop from a drive and sniff in the hood area. For now, the smell is only on driver side. My mechanic said he would do the labor for $130.00 to change both sides so I may go ahead and let him do it since he has a garage and I do not. If I had a garage I think I would be more inclined to at least attempt it and I still may. At least now I know what all it entails which I didn't know before. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! Yes even if you can’t do this yourself you can definitely gauge how much or little work it is so you have a better judgment on prices and can sense if someone is ripping you off. That price sounds pretty fair just make sure they change out those spark plug seals too 👍🏼. Thank you again for your time and hope you heal up your hands and back so you can start wrenching!
Thank you for the video. Not sure if I need to change my gasket but was suggested to do so after getting a p0430 code (catalytic related). Your video makes it look so easy.
Get a new mechanic if he suggested new valve cover gaskets for a cat code
This is a much more involved process on 2nd gen 4.7 tundras. There are a lot more hoses and emission equipment to take off to get to the valve covers. Still doable but takes an hour or two longer, and you will need a 12mm socket on some places.
Yes a little more tedious work to get to the covers but definitely doable! Thanks for watching
I thank you very much for this video I have a tundra and I am beginning to have that problem of liquefaction, thank you very much for your help
Head gasket?
Great video bro, best one yet for this particular job.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you!!! ive been looking for a video like this for months. had to change my spark plugs a couple months bck,but broke a bolt inside where you place the spark plug cover tube and had to buy a new cover on ebay, but it came with cracked/broken grommets. I didn't know how to get grommet off without damaging the little metal flap holding the grommets..anyways thanks for video
Glad I can help!! Thank you for watching!
what was the torque setting you use on the 9 bolts.........53 in/lbs......???
Great Video, today is Thursday; I am doing my Tundra 2006 SR5 this coming Saturday. I really appreciate your effort to help us DIYs . Thank you!
Great video. I would recommend to use a torque wrench and torque all bolts to the correct specs on cover. I believe 53 in-lbs is the correct torque.
Thank you 🙏🏼
A torque wrench with 1/4" drive unless you hav a Torque wrench that can be set @ 4.7 ft. lbs
53 is way too high. Should be no more than 15
Thanks man especially for the tool and part links
Is it necessary to put gasket sealer? And where ? I saw in the front but did you say in the back as well? What type of sealant and where can I purchase? How do you feel about felpro gaskets?
Thank you Sir, I am working on mine today 12/31/18 . So sweet !!!
Glad I could help! Wrench on!
Thanks 4 your info
Very well explained
Keep up the good work
sweet video...I need to get this done on my 99 LX470 with 274K. For some reason the machinery in the background when it's in FF. reminds of the Lightcycles in TRON...minutue 6:32- Of course I'm listening to this with my Bose noise cancelling headphones and I can hear every small detail....pretty awesome :D
Thank for making this video. You just saved me a lot of money.
Peter just saw the vid and I want to say thanks for giving a very detailed and informative how to video!! Just have to wait for the spring to come on around as its winter now in NY (Way to cold for the backyard Mechanic right now) but very easy as opposed to paying the 400.00 to my local mechanic.
Thanks again for the awesome how to video!!
The chipmunks Chip and Dale chime in at 6:46 LOL
Thank you so much, the video was really helpful!👍🏻
thank you for watching!!
Just mine's done today that I was $800 yr2022
Can I use the black rev silicone or you prefer the part on your link?
Hey bro I love your video is really handy and easy to understand man thank you what kind of silicone do you recommend to seal those two white things God bless you man and thank you again
I use Toyota black silicone or HondaBond high temp grey silicone
Do you have the part number and can I get it at any auto parts store
Hi Peter,
I noticewd that this vehicle didn't have the air pumps on each valve cover, covering cylinder #5 & 6.
My 2007 Tundra 4.7L has them and it adds a little to the complexity of the job. Wondering how you handle removing them to get the cover off?
Thx for this man. Helped me.
i like to ask you about the torque for the valve cover bolts for sequoia 4.7 , thanks
Great vlog!
Thank you so much for your video
Are the left and right gaskets the same
On the description box link doesn’t specify
show us the timing belt job!
Please!!
I need help. After replacing my valve cover gasket..my gasket still leak a little. How do u proper torque it down?
Great informative video bro..thanks... is the left and the right gasket the same? The link for the gasket on your description on has the left side gasket.
Hey Peter,
What's the Black form-a-gasket silicone sealer used for on this application? I know you used White Silicone Sealer? I guess I missed that part?
thanks - Roy
Did you replace or re use the white half moon pieces and the blak gasket sealer you put it on the gaskets or the engine, thanks
Thanks bro I need to do mines also. But just wondering is the link you posted for the valve cover gasket the right one? I clicked on it and it sent me to Amazon then typed in my tundra and it said it didn’t match for my truck
Peter I'd like to know if there is a special torque on the valve cover screws please respond back
do you need to drain the oil before doing this? Im haveing shop do oil pan becuse needs to lift off subframe. I'll be doing the value covers.
No draining needed
Great video !! Did you have to put silicone on the corners of valve covers ? Thanks
Thank you! Yes basically. The corners of the camshaft cap areas or if 2 metals mate to each other
Great job
What torque spec did you use and what is the pattern to tighten the bolts? Thanks
Great vid. Doing my land cruiser tomorrow (9/1/18) along with new ignition coils, PCV and breather hoses. Thanks for posting
Thanks for the kind words and watching!!
Is the link for the gaskets seals for the left and right side? Thanks in advance love your videos !
question, the link that you provided for the spark plug tube seals, is that the price for 1 or all 8??
I struggled when putting the valve cover back on. Do the plug tube gaskets fit on top of the tube, or over/around the tubes...?
The fit over it. Sometimes you have to push down on the cover and kind of do a small circular motion to get the seal to stretch over the tube. Make sure when after cover goes down that the seal is around the tube and not pinched on top of it
@@RevvedUpKnowledge thank you I need to pull the cover because I pinched them... it just didn't feel right, pushing them over the tube, but now that I know I will do it right! Thanks for your response!
well, after watching your video, going to tackle this job, great video...i will let you know how it goes...
well, just an update, just finished installing the new gaskets and o rings. this video was very helpful. those o rings were freaking hard to get out, but i manage to do it. Just wanted to say, thank you for your video, and keep up the great work. Many blessings
Why the two types of Silcone ? Black on the front of the cover and white on the half moon freeze plugs ?
i used both grey silicone on corner fronts and half moons
Very informative video and thank you for answering my question about the sealant.
Very nice video 👍👍👍
soo good thank you - liked and subbed. I hope you have one on the timing belt for this car. I did it on my gs400 hoping it will be similar.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video, thanks! I have a question - why do you have to put the silicone on the two spots toward the front of the car, and how much do you use?
Nice job brother.
Thanks brotha 🙏🏻
When tightening the screws, will they began to stop if I do the hand tight. Or do I need to stop when I start to feel resistance. My torque wrench isn’t proper
Engine v6 is huge fortune to replace gasket cover without DYI.
Hey man nice job.. i have 2004 lexusgx470 but i never replace tha spark plug every went i have to do it and it's liking oil from head gasket can you tol me what exactly i heve to replace tha all service or you recomend to do it
Great video!! What are you using to do the precleaning? Air and what type cleaner? Thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏻!! Parts/brakes cleaner
that's a clean looking engine, what oil are you using?
How long does it take to do this job?
Thank you brother some mechs talk to much make it sound intimidating aaaand leave a lot of details out
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video! Very helpful! Do the sparkplug gaskets come in a set or do I have to buy 8?
OEM comes individually. Aftermarket usually comes in a set. Don't skimp on these things. Always use Toyota parts for gaskets and seals.
Peter
Why are you showing this clip in fast forward mode? What are you teaching the beginners?
It’s definitely for beginners I’m just speeding up the boring parts like unscrewing nuts and bolts 😃.
I need to do this on an 08 tundra is it the same
If it’s a 4.7 then it’s very similar. Extra things need to be taken off like the secondary air pump valves/pipes
how did you remove the old spark plug seals? mine are baked in i have to get a new cover
What I do is use a small flathead between the seal and the base (where the seal and cover meets) and twist it in a screwing or unscrewing motion. This will cause the seal to slightly lift away from the cover and then give you enough room so you can use a larger flathead or pry-bar to pry/pop off the seal from the cover. Hopefully this makes sense 😅
@@RevvedUpKnowledge it works! appreciate the video
@@limeallens6160 no need for new covers! Win!!
Excellent video except for 2 things. Audio during parts of the video was almost unintelligible and when you sped the video up I could not follow what you were doing and audio was unintelligible. Information and your knowledge was excellent. Good video.
Very good video....im going to be doing a full blown timing belt , water pump replacement and also plan to do the cam seals. I have the 05 Tundra VVTi (164k not sure if belt ever replaced). Cam seals should be a treat. Watched many videos looking for consistent procedures. And yep....i know about the crank advance (50 degree) on the belt install and the dot line up/ service bolt install on exhaust cams. Any other tips like with the A/C compresser?
Cam seals on the vvti engine is a little different to replace. You actually need to disassemble your valve train and cam off to change the cam seal. I’ve advised many clients to not replace it because of cost. I’ve serviced engines with 200k miles at the second TB interval with those seals not leaking still
@@RevvedUpKnowledge i will definitely inspect the seals before making the decision. I do know about locking the scissor gear on the intake cam with a set screw and lining up the dots.... I will be very cautious. Thanks again for your reply .
Thanks for watching and commenting. Just be cautious and take pictures before you take off things that way you can refer to your pictures. Bagging and labeling the bolts help.
I like it very easy fo
Thank you 🙏🏻
Do the right and left hand side of the engine use the same exact gasket?
I only see the parts number for passenger side , what is the part number for driver side ? Same ? Please help
Very helpful and useful 👍 tks
Thank you 🙏🏼 much appreciated!!
Awsome fucking video bro so detailed & helpful. This will be my go to vid for my lx470 situation.
I have a 2007 sequioa and do you have the right part numbers coz it’s not fitting according to amazon
Man, I saw my Tundra today was leaking oil from those gaskets on both sides, I freaked out, then I found your very informative video and I think I got this, I don’t have as many funds to pay somebody to do this, so me it is!! Question. How long do you have to wait to drive the truck? Thanks!!
You got this!! This is why I made these videos! To help people save some dough!!! It really gets me excited haha sorry lol. You can drive it once your finished!!
I thought the valve cover bolts are supposed to be torqued to 53 inch pounds and in a specific order. Is it not important?
Can I use rtv sealant instead of silicone
Huck Hatch might be the same if I’m not mistaken. Either way should work as long as its oil resistant
Did the left side and right side use same seal ?
So do you only have to silicon those spots you pointed out.
Do the spark plug tube seals come in a pack of 10?
Pretty sure I can do this on my own now but I really would like a pro to check the valves and stuff on the inside while the covers are off. I have heard some slight noise and I'm worried the valve covers have been leaking to long and they are starting to get damaged. How do I fix that? Ha 🤕 I love my 4.7
Your covers leaking won’t damage your valve train components(unless it leaks so bad you have no more oil). Oil will drip all over the outside of the motor though. The valve lash has to be checked with a feeler gauge and is a pretty lengthy process. Majority of the time these engines really don’t go out of spec and they use a bucket over valve set up. No lifters or anything like that. As long as it’s lubricated well then you should be okay. From what I have seen ticking sounds under acceleration on these engines are usually an exhaust leak on the manifold
@@RevvedUpKnowledge Awesome thank you for the advice 👍 I'll be doing these seals on mine in the next few days. Hope to turn mine into an overlander type 4runner but my engine has over 200k miles on it now and I'm worried that if I get on the gas to much I'm gonna start breaking stuff but we will see I guess haha
Hey Peter, just a followup on that Black Toyota Silicone can you list that on your Amazon purchase list above or a applicable substitute? I want to order the value cover casket and spark plug seals so you get the credit. Also, I was thinking about doing the spark plugs at the same time, I have about 85k. Could you list them as well? Thanks again Peter!
Your awesome! Thank you for the love! I believe these plugs are platinum tipped and should be replaced every 60k mile intervals. I just updated the list in the description with the add of the silicone and spark plugs. Thank you again
