I have 7 of them in my rental car fleet. Upper radiator hose has blown on 3 of them. I bought 3 of them needing turbos. And 3 needing timing chain phasers on the ford ecoboost engine. Right side motor mount also makes the body vibrate. 2 water pumps have blown out on me as well. 1 at 110k miles and one at 130k. Bluetooth sometimes resets and turns back on. But overall I love them. Once you learn about them. It’s easy to prevent everything.
How do you look after them to prevent problems? I seen lots of people on forums reporting the alternator belt snapping and requiring a change on the tensioner too, I believe this had a recall?
@@Minshawi_kingkind of a guess but I would assume the Bluetooth antenna failed internally, not 100% bc Land Rover likes to change the names & number of modules that handle infotainment but pre-2020 ish infotainments all handled by the module that is the big screen you use, pretty sure your phone talks to BT antenna, antenna talks to your infotainment(ICCM/FICM), infotainment talks to AAM audio amp module and then to the speakers lol
lol my discovery has had the upper radiator hose blow, the radiator bleed valve crumbled and leaked radiator fluid all over my engine causing a short in the ignition coils and fuel injectors requiring all to be replaced, the water pump went out and blew the hoses going into it, the air ride compressor went bad, the axle failed, and more. They are so nice when they work. I just do not understand why they manufacture these vehicles with crappy parts. They use two part systems for the plastic hoses causing failure at the plastic weld points…like why? Wtf
I have a 2016 discovery Sport with 147K miles on it...we have driven it all over the U.S., from camping and off roading in Florida to Phoenix and the desert and upstate NY in the winter snow and all I have ever paid for is the dealership recommended Maintenace (LR dealers do charge a pretty penny for maintenance) but the car has been 100% trouble free, never a failure on any part yet...though it seems the AC compressor is only working at about 80% now as it doesn't blow much cold air at idle time in the summer, but once rolling still keeps us very cool in the hot Florida summer. I am on my 2nd pair of rotors and brake pads and looks like i need a third sometime this year or next.
nice video thanks for sharing. these are sold in many different countries around the world. problems with the Ingenium JLR engines can be avoided by selecting an optional engine choice. in USA these can be found with either an Ingenium 2.0L Turbo or Ford EcoBoost 2.0L Turbo. 3:02 it looks like these are the bolts attaching the electric steering rack to the subframe, not the bolts that attach the steering rack to the steering rack motor. I know someone who owns one of these with a Ford engine and it has been reliable. The only issue so far is a weak door card that is becoming loose from pulling the drivers door shut.
Thanks for the info. I've had problems with the doors not latching, the first time a hard closing bang of the door resolved the issue, when this happened again, I sprayed each door latch, including boot, with WD-40. The difference was immediately noticeable, doors closing beautifully and no problems since.
Don’t forget the DPF filling up, needs long drives to run the dpf regen. Also my reverse camera filled with salt water, bloody expensive to replace. Recommend to change all fluids regularly to keep many of the issues at bay.
So for our 2015 Discovery Sport which we purchased new. Only the grear selector has failed, that cost 1250Aud and I replaced it myself very easy to do. However I have the SD4 engine so I think I got lucky with that!
0:46 at only 46 seconds in and already it’s a golden reason to stay away from these cars. And for clarity, if your engine does ruin itself, it’s over £10k GBP to replace it. I’ve owned enough JLR cars to know that you should never, ever buy a JLR car.
I think the petrols are better, but I'm looking at the 2.2 SD4, which they used in the Freelander 2 and early Evoques. They're robust units, with just the general diesel failure points. In fairness to JLR, they're not the only company to have camchain issues, all the German brands have also had them, but for some reason they seem to get a pass due to their 'legendary' reliability.
I have 2017 Dico Sport HSE Lux. So far had blower fan motor fail. Part is $300 US however the labor was $1200 since the entire dashboard had to come out. Also some sensor fails time to time and puts the check engine light on. Code reads fuel issue but gas mileage is fine. It also is not on all the time. I think it doesn’t like the winter gas. Now I have low battery showing but battery test shows normal voltage. Other than the car is fine 😂
The problem on your car is the plastic fuse on the starter motor cable from the battery. The fuse has a hairline crack, and this is what's causing your fault codes & low battery warning. Break the fuse and nip the leftover piece underneath the terminal clamp directly.
This is a great video and help me to make the decision, thank you very much! (Liked and Subscribed) 👍👍👍 Especially 1. No Power steering wheel - I had a similar experience on the Mini Cooper S Countryman 2. Door Lock - It's on safe in Toronto
Petrol or Diesel. Which should i expect the least issues with. I love this car and im bout leave the Ford Edge behind because after 2015, the ford edge became a Rav4. So which should i go for? Also, does it even make any sense to buy a used one? Thanks for the info
Diesel Land Rovers are plagued with catastrophic engine failures and so only Petrol versions should be considered. I can only hope that the previous commenter misunderstood your question 😕
@@mattk120 that's what I'm seeing everywhere, meanwhile the previous commenter is the channel. Thanks a bunch. So if I'm going to do this car, petrol is the way to go right?
I really want one! I think they're ace and fun to drive but the reliability has scared me off. I need something right now that's not going to cause me a headache down the road. Maybe in a few years....
I should add that there are loads of companies now who will rebuild the gear selectors, mostly for a couple of hundred GBPs or so... Easy to take out of the car yourself and mail it to them. EssexRecons, ECU testing etc... The steering bolts usually fail at parking speeds though, as that's when they are at their most stressed.... As you say, free repair at JLR, just call them to book. There could be a waiting list though...
2016 DS HSe LUX $700 battery replacement 6yrs // limp mode while driving 70mph. 133k // new engine installed at 70k (thank God for the warranty) new gas pump 80k // no thanks. Never again.
Because they are amazing to drive and generally be in. Lovely interior and great off road. I love mine and have had zero issues, I do have the older 2.2 though...
More problems with these crank shaft gear going bad, gas pump, Turbo boost controller , front lower control arm , Gear shifter, these vehicle are just a pile of overprice junk, the worst under 73000 miles

How come your review of this is the exact same wording as your review of the velar? Apart from swapping discovery sport for velar..
