I used a one and three quarter inch paddle bit to put a hole in the plastic were the lower left bolt is for the oil filter , now I dont have to take the body panels off, you can even get a black plastic cap for the hole at Lowe's if having a hole in the plastic bothers you , this mod saves a lot of time when changing the oil on a 450 outlander.
How’s the shifting after the year I had to take it to the dealer to get it check up because it was a point when I had to go back and front in order to get it to shift?
I have always somewhat rocked my quad back and fourth to aid shifting if the lever doesn’t want to move easily to take some of the pressure off of the gears. On the other hand, if I was to reverse up a hill and try to shift out of reverse while facing down the hill, the shift is difficult and sometimes impossible unless I can rock it back far enough to remove the pressure from the gears. On flat ground or facing up hill it isn’t even a chore. If I am hauling weight or a second person the shifting is sometimes difficult as well. For the most part I have not noticed a change in the shift at all.
iam part of ATV club and me in my brother ride Yamaha and when the club goes riding it be about 25atvs and I seen the canam and Polaris have trouble with the lever getting stuck
work hard that wouldn’t surprise me. Of course y’all are probably mud bogging and such but a lot of it has to do with how you treat your ride. I haul lots of weight with mine all the time. I haven’t ever done much bogging and I mostly ride in dusty climates. I kinda grandpa my quad just because I like to make things last. Idk what y’all do but for the most part mine does fine when it comes to shifting. It’s really finicky until you figure it all out then you know how to get it to shift smooth every time. Haven’t heard about shifters getting stuck though
I saw your comment about hauling those beams- are you dragging them?.. I'm curious cause I just bought a 570 for the sole purpose of clearing my land and I've been dragging pretty decent size logs and piles of brush. I'm not a big atv person, so I've worried that I'm over working it
Hill Driggers I actually have an adjustable dolly that I would strap to the rear end of the beam and then a board with a trailer ball receiver hooked to a board that I would screw to the bottom of the beam. I am pretty much turning the beam into a trailer. I would post a pic but it won’t let me
Does your 450 stall and bust up or it quits when pulling out or backing up Ive had my sons new can am 450 back to the shop three times over it busting up they tried every thing and the dealer said they all do that, even can am's Tech guys dont know whats wrong and my first oil change they was alot of Aluminum came out in the pan great big chunks they had to replace front and back seals on the motor where the drive shaft is the muffler shiled falls off and the speed panel went bad now the fan is going bad we had it for 6 Months and its been in the shop 3 of those Months any body else have any problems ?
I have indeed had issues a while ago with the engine shutting off randomly. I found that it was caused by a loose connection on the battery. I tightened the connections and haven’t had a problem since. Other than that, I also had a couple similar issues because the battery had low charge. I got a new battery and everything is perfect. Still to this day I haven’t had any other mechanical issues.
@@alden9590 Thanks for getting back to me this is our 5th can am and the only one we have had trouble with seems like one problem after the next with it , I have a 570 now that I like very well, I Had a 2015 450 somebody stole it and no Insurance and my first one was a 650 XT back in 2007 I loved that ATV but a Horse came out of the tree line and hit me and totaled it thanks for the help !!
Does the 4x4 have lockers? I cant find hardly any info online about can am 4x4 and how it works. Is it on the fly? Any and all info you could say i would really appreciate.
hjkh the four wheel drive is a limited slip differential but most of the time it seems to be pretty well locked. I’ve watched videos about the outlanders versus the Honda foreman’s with the differential lock and The can am does better than the Honda. The rear differential on the other hand is always locked so if provides exponential traction in 2wd and 4wd.
I forgot to add that you can shift into four wheel drive on the move but I normally either let off the gas or come to a stop to make sure there isn’t excessive pressure on the gears while shifting.
@@alden9590 thanks. I ended up buying a 450, still babying it through the 10 hour break in on the engine. Seems like the stock 450 could have a bit more torque, but then again i havent gone full throttle on her yet.
hjkh well when you break your belt in and all the moving parts it will gradually get better. They definitely aren’t made easy to pop a wheel though because the back wheels sit so far back in order to keep it from flipping back on an incline.
Kevin Swanson it’s stout for sure. I have been hauling 10x8 beams that are about 10 foot long all week with it up a and down a steep hill in the mud. It’ll get the job done surprisingly well for the size engine.

Your four wheeler is not slow dirt bikes always outrun four wheelers unless they are big bore four wheelers this is a great review
True. I have one. Maybe small power, but truly fantastic atv
Just cut a circle where the filter is
That's what I would do
@@jacobsebastien3910 great minds think alike XD that's what i thought atleast

How Many miles you can out in this quad?
How fast for your outlander 450 go?
Brock's wood shop it is governed at 60mph

I couldn't see a Kawasaki beating it like that ,your bike has 38 hp

The Kawasaki is a 2 wheel moto x type cant compare the can am will go further and last longer.
