    Great video. Love the little shred test at around 18:00 to showcase the realtime response of the synthesis. It's obvious this is *now* what guitar players were always waiting for, realtime responsiveness of a synth sound to the guitar string's every nuance. I can't wait to try this out myself!

    I’ve been following Alex since the beginning of lockdown. I knew he was a great player but never knew anything about his career. On Thursday I was watchign Guthrie Govan’s solo on Steven Wilson’s Drive Home for the hundredth time and noticed a familiar face on the thumbnails for the Albert Hall shows… Alex Hutchings! I had no idea he was the lead guitar on that tour, but man his playing there is equal to Guthrie’s. We’ve got to have a Captain meets on this guy, he is one of those ridiculously good players that slipped under the radar for many of us…

    Well demo'd ALEX!! Guitar Sounds Great! Always love seeing Lee try "new" things. The previous devices used GKCable (13pin) and some synth pedals didn't use that tech. But obviously that would take away from the purpose of this VIDEO. If you like these sounds... SY-1000, SY-200, SY-1 gets you pretty much in the ball park, 1000 needs a GK-3 Pickup :) Cheers dudes

    I like the sounds, and Alex - it was his demos with you guys that got me to buy a GP-10 - but at that price, only working with one guitar and seemingly less versatile than the floor based options seems like a step in the wrong direction. I hope it's successful anyway because if Boss keep doing guitar synthy stuff (despite it being a bit of a niche area and hence a small market) it can only keep getting more impressive, but I really just want to see a better version of the GK3 that I can plug into pretty much anything.

    • @terrybanks5063
      @terrybanks5063 2 роки тому +3

      i agree with everything you said martin. then add the fact that you spend 2 grand on a guitar with an unfinished 90s style headstock, with boss written on it in a font reminisscent of the teenage mutant ninja turtles slogan and im lost!

    • @sordel5866
      @sordel5866 2 роки тому

      You pretty much nailed it. I think that the players who are interested in synth sounds probably want to control them through external boxes and applications. But well-heeled guitarists who are more into having "special effects" close at hand than dedicated sound sculpting will probably really like this; Boss are very clever when it comes to knowing the marketplace.

    Roland’s been going the direct processing route since they started e.g. the GR-300 (as used by Pat Metheney, Robert Fripp, Nik Kershaw etc.) didn’t work by trying to track the notes either. Then they started doing pitch-MIDI, with the issues described, and this is a return to their origins in one sense.

    Alex did a great job here- yes, get him back for a Captain meets. Looks like an awesome piece of gear. I'm interested to know how 'updatable' it is and also how deep the synthesis programming can go. I play synths, so hopefully they've harnessed some of that Roland tech and put some highly editable or even basic synth attributes in here.. eg: ADSRs, LFOs, possibly even some wave-shaping etc. Also, any chance it can come in white?

    As cool as this is, I have to say since it seems to be easier to play with pedals anyway, maybe a synth pedal is a better option after all. Plus you get wider options for both guitar and synth sounds. It will also work after the phone app no longer works on the version of Android/iOS you'll be using 15 years from now.

      What Roland SHOULD consider doing is find a way to design guitar synth system that caters up to 8-string players and can do so wirelessly like the fishman triple play. Yeah, Roland released the gk-5 at the time of this comment, but they can do a solid for the extended range players. I also say 8 strings even though I exclusively play 7s, just in the interest of fairness.

    integrating everything makes for a clean setup but I'm wary of having too much on-board electronics in.a guitar.
    I've got am Ibanez RGKP6 downstairs that I bought for my nephew to play. That's the model with the onboard headphone amp (with distortion) and the integrated Korg Kaoss Pad.
    I had to take it back because the on-board electronics flaked out. With no obvious issues (like bulging Caps), I'm going to have to pull the internal board out to properly inspect it.
    Until I hopefully figure out what's failed, it's a non-electric electric guitar.

      Lets design our hot new synth guitar, and make it for right handers only - but here's our marketing "twist" - we'll market it exactly like guitar shops already sell left handed guitars. Let them stock one bland strat copy - in black. If they can put it in the corner where no one can find it, double bonus. Then it'll never sell, and we'll be proved right that theres no market for synth guitars OR left handed ones.

    I like the gr55 better....just the zero latency models of strats. , teles acoustics and 12 strings make it worth owning but with a little practice and tweaking to match your playing style the organs ,synth pads and many others sounds can really open up endless sonic possibilities.....this new synth just makes synth sounds . Latency is def an issue with certain patches as well as misfires esp with piano but tons of other patches are perfect like string pads and and whirli style organ sounds.....i wish roland would've made a more intuitive model with less features but they've abandoned the 13 pin technology i think 🤔

    It doesn't look like a space ship, no digital display, regular switches and knobs, analog option playing.
    Someone in the digital market understands guitar players and its no surprise it is Boss.
    Couldn't help thinking Allan Holdsworth would have loved this.

    Great to see Boss/Roland still trying to push guitar synths, I think they are the only company doing it now. Although I can see the improvements in tracking using the filtering tricks the newer, guitar pickup based systems use, the sounds are much more limited to what you can get with a GR55 or even the GR20! Add the fact you can only store 6 presets on the guitar make it an expensive way to expand your sonic landscape.
    The guitar itself looks pretty cheaply made, The paintwork is very thin showing the wood lines through it! I'd say on par with a £200 guitar.They should have kept in partnership with Fender in my opinion. I'm not just trolling, I have a GR55, the GR20 and two GK3 pickups on a couple of my guitars. Like Lee I'm waiting for the first real guitar synth hero, not just someone using it for one or two synthy brass sounds or string pads ;0)

      The guitar is cheap because... It has thin finish and you can see the wood lines? You learn something every day...

    How many years will the app be supported? As soon as the app is gone the guitar is just a normal guitar.

    His playing reminds me of Steve Lukather. That’s high praise.

    I feel like I must be losing my edge, I used to be super for all this synth guitar stuff when everyone hated it, but I just think this thing sounds unbelievably thin and tinny, idk maybe it’s just cause they only really showed like new wave pads and no classic sawtooth Juno sounding stuff

    Green and pointy might be too far. That's a great way to describe it. Personally I love it!
