    They need to dump all the lifters and rockers. Once you have to replace a cam get rid of the rest of it. Go in there one time one and done. Sooner hopefully sooner pulling the oil pan and clearing out the oil strainer becomes a necessary part of the job. Now, it is repaired and running on a clean lubrication system.

    Great that the customer was a thinking person! That engine should run for a long time. (At the very least, this cam and lifters will not be a problem again)

    JT your right it’s a great engine my wife’s 2015 Dodge Journey just hit 300k on the engine yea I replaced all of the lifters and rocker arms and just recently the transmission. Did an overhaul on the suspension and fluids it’s ready to go another 300k I’m sure.

    I fell trap to working at Chrysler and just thinking they are making mainly junk which is probably something a lot of new techs at dealers go through with their brand. Then I bought a 2019 classic ram 5.7 new. Now it has 110k miles and only typical issue I’ve had is manifold studs snapping and ticking like they usually do. But other than that nothing but basic maintenance. Battery tires and brakes. I was expecting water pump and fuel pump at the least by now. But it’s been a strong truck even after towing 10k lbs for about 20k miles of that.

    Thanks for the video JT. The only question I have is would you clean the remaining tone wheels and how is this done ? Would you recommend to the customer to drop the oil pan to clean out and residual metal from the pan and oil pump pick up screen ?

    Now I’ve seen that with of these kinds of miles even 200,000 miles or more I get it I would get all those done but all I’m saying is I’ve seen Hemi’s Ford 5.4’s and the like even Chevy 5.3’s driven in the north that still has the original rocker arms and cams so it sometimes doesn’t come down to age it just depends on how you take of them.For example my buddies Ram is an ‘08 Hemi with almost 300,000 miles on it and the body is rusting out and his motor is still purring along and he’s bragging about how dependable his truck is.

      Call it luck if they can last longer, American cars are garbage and they make them so intentionally

      They have different generations, the 08' does not have the same issues as the 2012 and up.
      I have a `14' that gets meticulously maintained and I still ended up with the same issue is this here.
      It was piss poor design that caused the issues.

      The 3.6 in my 2015 200 started ticking at around 40k miles. Did oil changes every 6,000 miles and it still happened. No way to prevent it. Just luck.

    • @derrickjohnson5219
      @derrickjohnson5219 2 місяці тому

      6000 miles is too long for an oil change - get that down to 3-5 thousand miles.

    • @Mike__P
      @Mike__P 2 місяці тому

      @@derrickjohnson5219 I only drive 5500 miles a year. And I'm not changing full synthetic oil every 3000, that's just ridiculous.

    what if the cam lobe is chewed up a lil bit. Are you eye balling it & then measure the lobe to verify that it will operate at top efficiency? I ask ignorantly & for the fact that 3.6s are in some heavy vehicles so I figure you want the best intake & exhaust lift. Great video as always OG !

    How does an 180k mile ram still under warranty? I thougt it was 100k powertrain warranty unless it was a recall.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  2 місяці тому

      Its not Powertrain Warranty. Some customer purchase a extended warranty from companies outside that go beyound the factory warranty.

  • @Mike__P
    @Mike__P 2 місяці тому

    So this customer is paying for an extended warranty and for the extra rocker arms/lifters??

    Unless there is damage to the camahaft you're just over billing your customers. I have jeeps with 200k on them that can in at 80k with a knocked off rocker. Change the lifter and rocker. No problem. Not everyone had the financial ability to go all in every time.

    yeah makes sense, however in these days and times, when everybody's car insurance has gone up to 400 a month, not to mention car payments....I ask you?.... who's got extra money lying around, I work 6 days a week...and still can't make it...just do the freakin job,id tell ya.. nothing personal..I like watching your content..just stop pushing for the extras...

    • @marktoken6052
      @marktoken6052 2 місяці тому

      I'd rather a mechanic be honest with me and allow me to decide if the "extras" are worthwhile.
