    This is a quick overview of Aguilar's Tone Hammer AGS Circuit, along with some playing examples demonstrating the different settings of the AGS circuit. I also explain some features of the AGS circuit.
    I used a Sterling by Music Man Ray 34 set flat, a Mark Bass Little Mark II Head set flat, and an Aguilar GS 112 cabinet.
    Shot with a Canon Vixia HF S20 Camcorder using a Sennheiser MKE400 mic to capture the sound.
    Please go to www.AguilarAmp.com for more details.

    The Tone Hammer delivers great tone, but the AGS circuit needs a level control to be useable.

      You’re not using it correctly in that case

      I was thinking the same, does anyone know a good di/preamp alternative with controllable gain?

    • @PaddyLeggBass
      @PaddyLeggBass 2 місяці тому +1

      @@efreeze287 the AGS on the ToneHammer is meant to be used as an ‘always on’ or ‘always off’ for any particular gig/sound you dial in. You can turn it off as sometimes you might not want it but if you’re going to use it then it needs to be on all the time as part of the sound you’ve setup. If you want a second channel to use as a sometimes on with adjustable gain then the Laney Digbeth preamp pedal is perfect - great clean FET channel, also great Tube emulation channel, and you can set as FET, Tube or mix and each channel has its own volume/gain and you can also set amount of drive for tube channel separately (so have Drive set at 10 but tube channel only at 2 and FET at 10 set to mix etc). Well worth checking out

    I really dig this preamp. I really want to pair this with an Ampeg Portaflex series amp and get some really gnarly tone.

    Simple but effective video. I use this pedal exclusively for OD. It sounds more natural than other OD systems I have tried. And the EQ is very powerful - I make very minor adjustments, usually just for slight bass boost or cut. My only major complaint is I have to adjust the master every time I adjust the gain, and I am constantly adjusting one and then the other, back and forth to dial it in. Minor complaints are the size and weight and that it needs 18 volts with no battery option.

    Why on earth would you have the volume of an amp on full?

  • @KirkDickinson
    @KirkDickinson 12 років тому +14

    Do not understand the AGS even though I watched this video. This just seems like a poor design to me. There needs to be a secondary volume cut that engages when the AGS is in. Otherwise, there is no way to obtain unity between AGS on and AGS off., the last thing I want is to have a 20 DB immediate jump in volume when pushing the AGS button. Either you run the AGS all the time, not at all, or kneel down to tweek the volume every time you kick in the AGS. I just don't get the AGS.

    • @alexfigueroa9993
      @alexfigueroa9993 3 роки тому

      It is mandatory to use a compressor after the preamp to deal with the boost, otherwise is way too much for the main mix. But on the other hand if you are supposed to do a solo it will help you to cut through the mix.

    • @KirkDickinson
      @KirkDickinson 3 роки тому +1

      @@alexfigueroa9993 Well, that might work, but some of us don't like the sound of a heavily engaged compressor. Especially one that compresses the nice grinding distortion that the AGS adds. I just run mine all the time.
      I know a touring musician that has two of these on his board. One is used for the tone shaping eq stuff and the other is only for the AGS. He has that one set for unity so when he engages it with the AGS, it doesn't jump his volume way up.

    • @alexfigueroa9993
      @alexfigueroa9993 3 роки тому

      @@KirkDickinson Yeah, looks good with 2 THs. I used my TH coupled with a Super Symmetry compressor from Darkglass Electronics, and works flawlessly every time. Those Darkglass compressors are a great match for high gain distortions/preamps. 👍

      +Ahmad Yahya (Iraqi Bass Player) Sorry man I prefer this one because of the control over the mid frequencies. The Sansamp has a fixed midscoop, the only way to overcome that is to get the mids from the original signal with the blend knob. Anyway I don't use much distortion as I tend to play hard.

    i read, heard Marckbass amps and they really Sound "deeper " than other preamps (though Hartke are really "good" and Gallien Kruger etc...).
    I m sorry but you have a much more defined, dynamic sound via your Markbass than with that shit pedal which sounds like Lemmy playing on his Rickenbaker with Motothead !!! (i appreciate that band just like i love Earth, Wind and Fire or Tower of Power...that s a mystery to me !!!!! lool ).
    Aguilar makes very good amps but that pedal is pure shit; only a commercial ptoduct for blind and semi deaf "musicians ". If you want that sound on your bass just buy the Boss Fuzz or another one less expensive (when buying Boss pedals, you pay the Label Boss).
    Donner is a Label i have discovered ; i bought the Alpha Bass effect really cheap which bas a very performant compressor. it is amazing considering the price comparing To MXR.
    For 30 euros you can have a performant pedal from Donner....
    Wé must not be trapped by consommation tecnics used by reputed Labels...
    MUZIK IS FREEDOM !!!!!
    AND MUSICIANS FROM ANY LEVELS MUST KEEP IN MIND WE ARE ALSO CONSUMERS. SO WE HAVE TO BE AWARE OF THE UTILITY , THE PRICE, THE BUILDING ORIGINS OF THE PRODUCTS WÉ BUY.
