    What’s your favourite bass effect?

      Still didn't choose mine :) I need a bass preamp with DI to switch directly to mixer on some stages with mediocre gears. Preudotube or separated overdrive cascade are not nessesary. To choose by youtube reviews is a real pain, nothing is clear about the sound. By functionality I tend to put an eye on Palmer Pocket Amp Bass.

      @@КурлюкЭбатыр Ahh yea, it's tough finding something through videos. Make sure the check out the ToneHammer 500 as well. I've used that before and it was solid. Not too familiar with bass heads though to be honest.

      @@randyrektor No, I don't need the head so far, as we have the TC Electronics comboamp at our rehearsal room and it's more than enough for training but too heavy to transport it there and there a few times a feek to different stages :) (I'm a cover band bass player). So I'm searching a pocket preamp in pedal format, to sound so-so decently being switched directly to mixer. Aguilar Tone Hammer seems a bit expensive for me and I don't need the fuzz (that AGS cascade). Though it looks cool at all. Anyway thanks Randy for the reply and advice!

      Ahhhh I see! Yea the Tone Hammer is great, but it’s not the most flexible. Sansamp pedal might be a decent option for you!

      A good bass pre amp is the best effect.

    I been a bassist 59 years and was a sideman for almost 30 years until 1990. I love this pedal and I have had hundreds over the years. Im sorry for Mikael Anderson(comments 5 months earlier!). From experience I have seen how some folks just chuck their kit around (No judgement intended) but Roadies can be a pro's worst Nightmare or best friend! I never use batteries, maintain and clean all my gear after i use it, and I have always used humidity meters ! Maybe Mr Anderson just got a bad box?

    Best review I've seen on this. Building my board now and decided to go with this paired with the tlc compressor. I was going to go for the Cali76 but for the price, I'm looking forward to the pair.

    I've seen comments about people not liking the drive on the AGS. I recommend cutting the mids when using the AGS, all the way to 9 oclock or even more and then playing around with the mid freq knob, you can have some interesting results.

    Are you plugging it into a mic pre? Can you record with it going directly into your converters or does it need to go into a mic pre? Thanks!

    Could this be plugged directly in to a bass cabinet and used as a preamp/ top to the caninet?

      Five years late but I don't think so. It would like plugging into a D.I box and using that as an amplifier. The pedal functions as a pre-amp which (I believe) indicates that an amplifier is still required.

    Thanks for the review! I also use the TH with my Stingray 5 for home and studio recording and it sounds very good. I was wondering which settings would you suggest for classic rock/metal SVT-kind sound?

    • @GeorgeVrachliotis
      @GeorgeVrachliotis 8 років тому

      Thanks for your response. Well, I tweak my settings, depending on the song or my taste, but... Generally, I scoop out the mids, bass, treble and master go somewhere between 12 to 2 o' clock. Gain depends on whether I engage AGS or not. I really wished this pedal had a different knob to control the amount of AGS. AGS engaged, gain goes to 10 o' clock for some dirt. AGS off, gain goes to 1 or 2 o' clock. 90% of the time I play with AGS off. I have to say I like the overall tone of TH but I have yet to find a nice Ampeg-ish sound, this is why I am considering buying the Ampeg SCR-DI...

    • @Progbassist
      @Progbassist 8 років тому +1

      Try these settings: Bass and treble around 1 o'clock, mids scooped all the way down or perhaps at 8 o'clock, mid freq at 12 o'clock(so you are scooping the "boxy" sounding mids which are somewhere around 400-700Hz. AGS on and at 10-11 o'clock, master at the preferred playing volume. Its not really an SVT sound, but still a tone I would imagine suits for rock/metal.
