I love that Montessori is that it is so child focus. Things are at their level instead of at the adult level

Yes, I love that the children can access things on their own! We had this tall shelf in the room before which only clicked later that it's fine for an adult but not very functional for a child.

finally a small child's room that is actually made over with the kid playing in it in mind. I watch a ton of makeover videos and I see people making over the classic nursery that's similar to what you had before, into a chic designed grown up room with the reasoning that the child can grow into it and it won't ever become too childish for her, and some of them are so mature and look more like a designed hotel room. This is honestly so refreshing to see and it's still beautiful and pleasing to look at

I went to Montessori and I absolutely loved my time there. Also worked there as an adult and the overall teacher student relationship is so much better, in my experience, then a regular kindergarten. At least in my country 😍🥰❤️

I went to a Montessori school as a kid and loved it so much, who knows whether it that had a great impact on my life in terms of creativity and learning or whether it was other things but I enjoyed my time there nonetheless :)

Baby is due in feb. The crib never set well w me in my heart. I put a bunch of modern traditional baby gear on my registry and kept removing it until I learned about montesorri floor bed. I will use it starting from birth! Ps love that wall paper.

Thank you for mentioning buying things second hand! I wish I heard more Montessori-inspired channels mentioning it. Another benefit is it's less stressful to change things up and be flexible when you haven't invested a lot of money or wasted any resources. It's even better when you can repurpose things! I'm currently writing themed units of study with activities that use only household or recycled items. I wanted more structured activities for my toddler and didn't want the stress or guilt of trying to buy a bunch of new toys or supplies.

This isn't zero waste but if you would like to minimize baby bumping their head on the wooden sides of the bed, pool noodles can be cut down the back, covered in fabric, and placed over the wooden side rails. It's been working for us for over 2 years 😊 and be sure to attach wobbly furniture, especially dressers, to the wall! Beautiful room!
You could add a mirror at ground level, for motor development. I used stick on mirrors because I wanted to avoid glass. I've seen a lot of people do this next to the changing area or bed. I was nervous about it being too stimulating next to the bed. You could also add the classic mobile for shapes and colors. Many DIY versions possible. Again, I avoided putting anything around the bed that could be stimulating. However, since baby is mobile, a mobile might be uninteresting for her now 😋

I rewatched this video again and again because I love this room! The simpicity, the style, the colours, everything! You give meg inspiration for my toddler boy's room. I also like Montessori method. IKEA Kura looks great, altough we won't change his bed within a year, I think it depends on the child, the parents, the lifestyle, the living situation that this bed how would work for a 1 year old.

You only need to put safety 1st
I raised my 2 daughters traditional with a crib I was a teen mom and ignorant about parenting. My last baby at 35 I followed Montessori as well as respectful parenting and I did tons of research and reading. I removed the bedroom door and installed a baby gate for safety. We had this bed from day 1. I got a great mattress and we did the floor bed . I just really baby proofed his room . Wonderful experience anyone can do if they research and its immaculate and safe. I feel guilty my 2 girls didn't experience the same

We did floor sleeping when my kids were 18 months until about 5. Good idea with the plug covers. Also another tip is to anchor furniture. My kids liked to climb. At one point they climbed their dresser and were jumping from it onto their floor bed. It was anchored but still....

    • @MyGreenCloset
      @MyGreenCloset  3 роки тому +2

Yes! I should have mentioned that. The shelving is anchored for safety.

@@MyGreenCloset Is your Hemnes dresser anchored too? I really panicked when I saw the same dresser I have (we have the bigger one, same style) completely fall over on a video of someone else's kids. IKEA furniture is such a danger 😬. My toddler is like a mountain goat!

Beautiful bedroom. I'm redecorating my son's room, trying to bring it up to date. He's gonna be 4 in two months and I feel that the room suits a baby more than him, so now the library is higher and the toy box is bigger. I'm making sure his books and toys are never out of reach for him anyway. I have a couple of shelves on the wall containing the things I don't want him to touch, like the watch, his colognes bottles and the air freshener.

Hi there! I just found your channel. I have this bed for my daughter Ava (8 months old) who’s actively crawling.
    A few questions for you,
    1. Is there any worry about your daughter hitting her head on the corners of the bed?
    2. When did she start crawling out on her own?
    3. Did you “sleep train her at all”
    4. Do you leave any sort of light on in her room/how can she see at night?
Sorry it’s A LOT of questions but i’m a first time mom and new to montessori

Love this floor bed set up. Nice
to give a young kiddie, the chance
to play or sleep when tired. Kids
need a choice, I feel - instead of
all these rules like 19.00 is bedtime
or whatever. Sleep when tired and
eat when hungry. That is what I do
now being a newly retired pensioner.
In fact, feel very relaxed, weight is
    good and my general disposition
is am never stressed or moody.

Very cool! I have teens, but went to Montessori and love the methods. If I may say, watch flipping the mattress. It’s always good to have a waterproof mattress to protect costly mattresses. I realize some plastics are not great to sleep on, just know lots can happen (sickness) on those mattresses. 😉

This video is beautiful. I would have loved these ideas when my own children were tiny. I wanted to remind your viewers that while you didn't mention it, the dresser needs to be attached to the wall so that it's safe if the child should try to climb up the front. There are kits available to do that as well as YT videos showing diy methods. Anyway, it's all beautiful. Can't believe your baby is getting so big!!

Gorgeous baby :) and beautiful room, I have a daughter who is now 2 years old and we also furnished her room with the same idea in mind, some second hand things, an old shelf from another room put on the floor with some baskets for toys, we do not have cameras so our chair needed to get out very soon. I also thought of those beds but I ended up choosing a coconut fibre matress on a tatami and puting a thick carpet on its side and it has been working very well. I have not made a lot of changes since she moved to her own room with 12 months so I think the idea of the Montessori style for kids rooms is also very practical and inexpensive Great idea of switching toys from time to time, need to do that myself

Beautiful room. My daughter is six now but she’s still on a second hand handmade floor bed. We did/do Montessori/Waldorf home and home education. She loved the drop box and still plays with wooden figures. She loves her bed and as a constant spinner still in bed if she slides out she’s not going to hurt herself. Kitty Cotton also has a beautiful Montessori bedroom set up.

I've wondered about Lovevery, if they truly were sustainable and a good choice but haven't taken the time yet to research. With Montessori becoming more popular, it seems like more sources want to offer the style of toys but are not necessarily ethical. I like these style of videos, appropriate for my life right now. 😊

I really like their toys and while I do wish they were overall more transparent (for example there isn't a lot of info about the materials of the individual items in the play kit), they have some good sustainability aspects and the toys we've tried are high quality.

I wish I had heard about Montessori before I had children. This looks like a wonderful way to have a room set up for a baby. cribs always looked like cages to me. I think back a generation or two, parents had more children and it was hard to keep track of everyone, including pets.
My brother was able to get out of any crib. I don't know how he survived that.

Love this video so much! Very enlightening. This was actually my inspiration to get the Kura (second hand as well) as a floor bed for my 9 month old that I will be setting up soon! For the mattress- did you get the standard twin or twin trundle? I definitely want an organic mattress and this seems to be the best choice!

Oh that's great! I got the standard twin, however in hindsight I think the trundle would have been a better option and wish I had gone with that one!
Both for ease of crawling on and off, and the lower mattress would also mean the sides of the Kura are higher to better stop rolling off.

@@MyGreenCloset yes I agree! I am hoping it will keep him from rolling and feel more like his crib. Do you still like the mattress and did you notice an odor? The mixed reviews are holding me back because it is pricey and difficult to return so I want to be sure.

@@kaylazinkhon6339 I don't recall any smell at all!
We do still really like it! The waterproof side isn't the comfiest feeling with the protective layer (but it would be the same with any waterproof protection) but the other side is really nice. It also seems to be well made and I can see us using it for a very long time so it definitely feels worth the investment.

@@MyGreenCloset ohhh good! Yes, his crib mattress is waterproof too so I imagine it will be a similar feel. Thanks for your reply! I think I'm going to go for it! ☺️

What about when they get older ? I take it you need to buy another bed frame again ?

No, you can either raise it off the floor to how it originally is supposed to be, and this bed frame also converts to a bunk bed.

I don't, but if you search "IKEA Kura measurements" there are diagrams with all the dimensions. :)

I hated the bed frame. Too many sharp edges. Better to get a 4 inch or less mattress and let them roll out of the bed. They put themselves back in the bed eventually. Also, they can climb on the edges and fall on their head, hurting their neck.
