More Questions and answers: Q: Are you having a logo on the sides of your lorry? A: We will! We are currently working behind the scenes to get a new logo designed!!! Which we are really excited about!!! Q: On the back of the lorry, have you thought about a drop down platform like the tail lifts but obviously lighter at all, could be used as a seating/ decking area thats elavated off thr ground? A: We are going to be removing the barn doors at the back and panelling up. From our experience, it’s not too often we’ve used the back doors of the van, so we don’t see the value of keeping them on the lorry. Plus, we’ll save on weight! Q: Do you plan to travel the UK in the lorry A: Yes we do! We’ll likely spend half the year in the UK. Q: My question is when the weather is cold how do your 2 children get on sleeping in the pop tent does it get too cold for them ? A: The pop top does have its limitations when the weather is either too cold, or too hot. We’ve been in -7 temps and its far too cold to have the pop top up, so we’ve had to make do without. Q: What day to day struggles affect you most about vanlife? A: Great question. At the moment space is an issue, hence the lorry conversion. Also recycling can be really difficult! Q: Are u planning to back into a house? A: It’s not in the plan. Q: How many miles did you cover in your van while touring? A: We did about 10,000 last year, which includes going up to the top of Norway and down to the bottom of Spain.
Totally Agree with home schooling . Keep them out of the indoctrination , indoctrination , indoctrination You are teaching them to think for themselves instead of being told what to think .You are fantastic parents giving your children the universe of life and they will never forget it .
We home schooled and we now have three well adjusted and happy people. Our youngest started his own business at 12! Learned how to keep his accounts and everything that was needed to run his business. Now 25 and thriving
For nomadic living home schooling is always a potential issue but there are quite good resource packages that are accessed by folks living in remote areas like Australia and parts of the USA as well as round the world sailors and overlanders. The most important thing is learning how to learn and then the 3 R's .....reading writing and arithmetic. Beyond that the humanities help shape attitudes and understanding people the sciences help you understand how things work and the practical aspects of life. What you don't want to do is raise the kids without learning or qualifications because they will find things so much more difficult in adult life although I appreciate that some folks get on despite leaving education with nothing.
I'd be worried about overloading the drive axle on weight, there's 50% of the body over the drive wheel, wouldn't of thought there's much payload on it as it is that's before all the insulation, boarding, windows, water tank, electrics ect go in
You carry on doing what you're doing you kids are getting the best education being on the road with their parents they are tasting real life not bottled keep the videos going love them and most importantly enjoy it life's to short
We home school our 3 children it's the best decision we've ever made. Hope everything goes OK with your new build 🙏 and look forward to seeing it when finished
Thank you for answering the money question truth fully, i find that alot of youtubers dance around that question. I will support with likes, comments and adds, to thank you for letting us have a peek into your life style.
Hello i am from the very south of the Netherlands near the german border, there is mutch to see here so maybe 1 day you consider this its also called little switserland, you can stand in vaals and visit 3 countrys in 1 minute. Also every1 speaks englisch over here so that isnt a problem. We traveld with the kids to finland and i must say that was a beautifull country to see very pacefull realy worth wile. Also Slovenia is very beautifull and nice for the kids.
We had a couple of camper van's that I self converted (loved doing them even though it could be dreadfully frustrating at times when something didn't work out how you imagined!!🤣🤣) when my kids were younger, and although they still went to school, we had no hesitation of taking them out mid term when it came to our holidays. Ours learned a lot more going to various places like Zoos, historic sites, industrial history places etc than they ever would in the few weeks a year that we took them out of school. There's a lot of positives to be said for out of school experiences. Good luck in the future👍
Having recently found your channel, its been great to look back to your original videos and get a sense of what your channel is about, this one was very informative and we would like to say how much we have enjoyed watching your progress with the Lorry build (Tori, what a great name, its very apt.). We have a motor home, which we love and suits us, its a 7.9m Baily Autograph 794i, which suits us to the ground, being able to take our grandkids with us on occasions as well as travelling by ourselves. Keep up the great channel, wishing you all the very best in your endeavours, we think that your children will gain so much from your travels for their education. My wife Deborah has been in education for most of her working life (but actually started out life in hairdressing when she was studying at the London School of Fashion (Oxford St), she was in the area of research of hair products with Beecham's at Brentford, which is now SKB or SKG), when she decided on a total career change and studied in education and has been involved in nursey Early Years education , to pre schools and key stage 1 and 2 as a special educational needs SEN assistant. We have just both recently retired, myself from the aviation world of electrotonic engineering and want to now enjoy the freedom of MoHo travelling, which we really enjoy. All the very best with your channel, we will be watching for inspiration for what we should be doing, best regards, Chris & Deborah
Hey Chris! Thanks for commenting! Enjoy your travels, and thankyou for watching the videos. Hopefully be able to give you a bit of inspiration for places to head to ☺️ xx
I think you'll be fine - you both seems to have your wits about you and you research your subjects too; Good luck to you all I say. You could always tow a trailer if need be!! But yeah I know, another class of license and such. I hope you home school, I wouldn't put any child into the current national curriculum as a former teacher. You can also have a full social life, having seen some van community shizzle going on they'd not lose out at all, in fact your kids would get a kick start not having to deal with the wrong-uns in society. Bright blessings to you both.
Can’t wait to see the build progress. I’m 63 and looking to retire to a very large van/truck. I’ve built an xlwb Sprinter, so I’ve cut my teeth… but you’re living our dream!!! Our kids are all north of 21, so won’t be ‘touring with kids’! Thanks!
Very excited for your build. Not seen anyone tackling something this big. I think the one thing in fact I know you will regret the bed situation. You could make a simple pulley system for a drop down bed. I seen this at a show last year. It was a very simple idea. 4 pulleys and ropes. It isn’t expensive (relatively) and it would give you guys a bed already made up. I think you should consider this. Other than that good luck. 👍👍
We are still debating it, BUT that would a a bunch more weight to the van that we aren't sure will have. It might be something we change later on though
Great video once again! It sounds like you've always had adventurous spirits 😊 I find people don't like to say UA-cam is a source of income, but it's hard work to create the videos and there's a real element of vulnerability putting yourselves out there! I'd rather watch and support videos of real people than big TV broadcasters!!
I hear what you're saying about the 7.5t limits on places but most of those signs say except for access, most of the time you'll be fine! I've taken my artic down plenty of roads like that
Remember that 7.5 tonne limits are for commercial vehicles. Busses and motorhomes are exempt. A commercial vehicle can enter a 7.5 tonne limit for access; shops rest areas ect. 😊
Keep doing what your doing while you and kids enjoy it and cant beat the home schooling as most of it is visual so they will take it in more big respect to you
I think homeschooling is better than public school in the school system kids are not learning like they should because teachers don’t care and don’t want to be bothered by a student who may be having problems.
Im fascinated to see how you go on with the truck. Apart from horse boxes a 7.5t is an unusual choice. Maybe you're onto something but maybe there is a reason theres not many truck conversions out there. Ive driven similar trucks and I think you may have to spend a bit extra on lightweight and strong materials, 2t is not a lot, but at least it will seem open and spacious. Good Luck
Love all your videos and look forward to each week now it’s twice which is even better keep going your such an independent and inspirational family ❤hello from Scotland 🏴
hahaha I nearly spat my breakfast our when you answered my question about it being called a truck. It was just an off the cuff question but I love that you made it an FAQ. Ahh love your channel and only just found it but good on you. Thanks for the inateraction!. 🙂
Fantastic, inspiring series. If at all possible (understand you are dangling from a 🪜), could you show a bit more detail of how you deal with the ceiling?
Thanks for sharing your story today, great attitude with the kids, bravo! The knowledge the kids are soaking up seeing the world first hand is priceless, good luck and looking forward to see the building process.
i failed all my gcse due to horrendous bullying in school. i would have loved to have grown up in this lifestyle! theres always options for the kids should they decide to go to uni or college etc
What a great way to live your family life. Love the idea of the self build motorhome/ lorry/ truck 😀 , I think if I was on my own I'd give it a go , but got to admire the challenge of doing it as a young family. Well done. Looking forward to seeing the build being finished 👍👍👍
I studied phenomenon-based courses in high school. (Different subjects are learned in it ”naturally”, just like you teach your children.) Great way to learn! Thanks again for the video! ❤ Sky
Just a quick one about Morocco! The roads there were wacky races/catch the pigeon! Crazy drivers! It made me scared to be a passenger! Love the education question as well. I've thought about these loads ever since leaving school. I must have sat through 100s of hours of religion that did not interest me one bit and have no use in day to day life. But nobody spent the time to teach me about finance.
Looking forward to the finished article and your next adventure the children are having the time of their lives your doing everything right in my honest opinion well done
Back in 1979 my parents took my sister and I out of primary school and spent 6 months travelling round Europe - for a couple of years after I could count in several languages - I'd say it was a positive experience (though I don't remember that much) As a parent I'm very aware that every choice you make can be wrong - if all you impart is a curious mind and tolerance of difference you have done OK ... and that's about the best you can hope for! Good luck with the build and keeping within your payload - if you are careful not to build with large sizes of wood and 'cheat' with plastic tiles rather than ceramic, I'm sure you will be fine. Although more expensive, flexible solar is lighter (as are lithium batteries). You probably already know that most of the strength of timber is in the surface, so making I beams (either with plywood between two 2x1 batterns or using a router to remove wood from a 3x2 to make an I shape) will be just as strong and save weight ... if you love maths you can calculate how much such a beam (say to support a bunk bed) will bend with a given weight in the middle using info in 'strength of materials' online books - usually the dynamic load (say a kid jumping into bed) is the main factor ... for batterns to space insulation from walls, ceilings and floors in cupboards you should be able to save a fair bit of weight (though narrow batterns and accurate screw positions (or gluing then removing temporary screws) may be a simpler way to get light weight). Hope this is useful - happy to try to find links to useful info if you want some pointers
A very useful comment, thank you for taking the time to write this! All the best! Your parents sound ace! and you're totally right about the curious mind thing, we want that so much for our kids 👍
Great video guys and loved the questions. Regarding weight, as many have said 2T is not a lot but I do believe it is doable, however you need to be very aware of your axle weights as there are many 7.5T TRUCKS get pulled over and they are fine with the gross vehicle weight, but are over on individual axle weights! The fines can be high and if the issue a PG9 and moved restriction, then the vehicle cannot be moved until the weight is reduced.
You should start a second channel in regards to educational places you visit with facts for children and even adults to learn more about different places in a real time prospective
Hi Guys loved your video and have obviously now subscribed 😊 you come across as an amazing little family with lots of drive and ambition but I was wondering if your lorry insurance was very expensive as in the future I would absolutely love to try and do a self build lorry and have thought about it on & off for a couple of years but thought the insurance would b too complicated and too expensive? Wishing you and your beautiful little family every success possible along with all the happiness too😊
Hi folks. I love your channel and your outlook on life. I'm convinced your kids will benefit very much from home schooling. Life experience like they are getting daily is such a benefit. With regard to your gross weight being very close to your 7.5 tonne maximum in the last number of years it has been possible to buy alloy wheels for 7.5 tonne lorries. I believe they are nearly half the weight of steel rims and if you multiply that by six it's quite a saving. Unfortunately there is quite a big cost involved. Keep up the good work. ❤🏴
I am really enjoying watching your journey, and so loved what you said about the children being happy. What a fantastic lifestyle they are living. Look forward to seeing more videos you have me hocked.
I currently have children 7, 3 and 1 and couldnt imagine the stress and difficulties your all going through. Well done and keep it up. Heres hoping my family can do sometrhing similar in the future when the times right :)
You guys are inspiring and should be so proud of your approach to the kids and schooling, like you say 18 summers will soon pass by so doing something different will live with the kids forever. Good luck with the build and hope to see you about in Europe
I see nothing wrong with home schooling. For me personally being at a formal school was a night mare. I was picked on and bullied. My last two years I was in a school of 1,200 kids and bullying became much worse. All I learned in 11 years was very basic maths, × - × ÷ and some spelling, a lot of which my mother done at home. When you said 7 1/2 ton lorry I thought that was carrying capacity. 2 ton will be cutting it fine, with batteries, water, food, 5 people, and the build. No kids we can't eat, we will be too heavy. Lol 😀😀😀 Hope all is on track with build. Take care.
Hello to you both it's a great life full -timing. A few thoughts we sold up in UK and France four years ago, We are both retired. We have full-time insurance, very important if a claim is needed. We are with Comfort insurance, the only one that gives full time insurance. Also I travel on an Irish passport as my dad was Irish, which allows me and my wife to stay in Europe. France pretty much unlimited, Spain 90 days and leave for a day and then can re-enter. Onwards and upwards to you both and Family .
I was a professional coach builder ,Building horse boxes on 7.5 ton trucks and I always dreamed about turning a 7.5 ton to a camper,25 years on I would choose iveco 70c18 as a base vehical as the payload is 4.9 tons on a 7.2 ton chassis. THE MAKE OR BRAKE WILL BE THE ELECTRICAL INSTALATION, GET IT WRONG AND 3 YEARS DOWN THE LINE YOU WILL HAVE A NIGHTMARE.built in wires will rub and chaff as you drive .think 1980S RV ELECTRICAL NIGHTMARES. .Loving what your doing .(you don't need an overlander truck 0
My conversion is a 7.5t MAN, I honestly wouldn't touch Iveco, they are awful to drive compared to almost any similar truck and I've driven most. Even after the conversion and full tanks I've still got nearly half a ton in reserve, I don't think weight is such a consideration when the bulk of it is empty space, and I also have a heavy multi fuel burner, and equally heavy household kitchen. I did mine at work and put it over our weighbridge before and after the build.
@@DomingoDeSantaClara iveco are considered the best for reliability right now.( I have the up most respect for you and what you have created)m.a.n are also amazing .you are living your dream and I solute you .
@@robertanderson-yx8mo I've no comment on the latest Iveco, most self builders are likely to use earlier models, which to me were just awful. My MAN is a 1995 model which was a very deliberate choice as most trucks from early 2000s start getting into electronics, not good for myself as I do my own repairs. Iveco may have upped their game since I last drove one, I would certainly hope so, they had very heavy clutches and clunky gearboxes etc.
I've experience with a 6.5t Iveco - it was bought new and did very little mileage, so it's probably unfair comparing it to a hired 7.5t box lorry ... but the Iveco was much more car-like. Recently hired 7.5t lorries have been automatics, so easy to drive but still less 'nice' to drive. Probably runs for longer without major repairs. For an over lander (if money was no object) I'd look at the 80's 4x4 or 4x6 Stonefield vehicles ... Fuel costs would be ridiculous as they are powered by a big V8 and have 3 speed auto gearboxes ...
Hi I am rod Harrison from lerwick just wanted to say that me and my wife sold ever thing to go travelling in our motorhome we went to Morocco for 3 months and loved it we went from gebralta to casablanca over the atlas mountain that is a must. Ps loving the blog
Can I just say I adore this channel I came across it a month ago and it’s fantastic! - question: do you ever feel unsafe in park-ups? Hearing someone outside etc? Are the kids ok with it?
I am a newbie to your channel, I’ve gone with this motto for a long time you only get one go at this life job, so just leave it after all said and done things are not getting any easier for any of us without getting too political things 😂 all the best to you all👍
Home schooling is 'proper' school, One could argue that non-home-schooling is not 'proper' schooling, as it's just designed to produce factory/office workers (which is why they started the public education system after the turn of the industrial revolution - factories needed workers that could read and count) 🤓😎
You are both amazing! Thank you for answering my question..I can’t believe you used to work in forestry as my job role is woodland specialist ranger…although I can see why you choose vanlife! Awesome as always and hope to see you at the show in September! Keep up the great work enjoy 🤘🏼
I am curious to hear why you guys don’t like Park4night? We are an Aussie family motor homing around Europe and have found it invaluable but are keen to see what the alternatives are.
Good luck with your build I'm sure that you can stay within the weight limit and as for the kids education, as long as they can read and write and do basic maths then I'm sure that will be sufficient. Half the shit that they are taught in school these days has no real need once they leave school. I wasn't the brightest when I was at school but could read and write to a good standard and went on to eventually get a good and well paid job, I'm no Einstein but I'm happy with what I've got. I believe your kids will learn more from being out on the road travelling with you, life is too short to be stuck in a classroom where teachers have little control these days!!👍☀️🍻🍻

I studied phenomenon-based courses in high school. (Different subjects are learned in it ”naturally”, just like you teach your children.) Great way to learn! Thanks again for the video! ❤ Sky
Great Q&A you’re doing a great job guys, now I know why your videos are executed beautifully with Keira having a marketing background. 😁 x
Thankyou Colin!
Back in 1979 my parents took my sister and I out of primary school and spent 6 months travelling round Europe - for a couple of years after I could count in several languages - I'd say it was a positive experience (though I don't remember that much)
As a parent I'm very aware that every choice you make can be wrong - if all you impart is a curious mind and tolerance of difference you have done OK ... and that's about the best you can hope for!
Watching your videos have inspired me to save up to do full time van life with my toddler and doggo. Oh and husband. 🤣
That is awesome!
I’m a newby here - can’t wait to follow your build & travels! 😊
Put a motion sensor in the bathroom, leisure battery saved!
Great honest video. Thanks 😊Keep it up Wishing you happy travels
Thank you for sharing your story and answering questions.
Make sure you get a truck satnav it will make so much easier 👍
You should start a second channel in regards to educational places you visit with facts for children and even adults to learn more about different places in a real time prospective
Ahh we should do a kids edition 🤩
What apps are your go to for finding parking spots
Hi how are you doing
Keep doing that.. 👍
First like first comment first view love your videos only been watching for a while
I am really enjoying watching your journey, and so loved what you said about the children being happy. What a fantastic lifestyle they are living. Look forward to seeing more videos you have me hocked.
Hehe, thanks Adam. You didn't waste any time. Thanks for watching
Thanks, good to have you on board
@@Touringwiththekids notification bell is well and truly ding donged lol
Have you considered a Murphy bed.
Great Q&A x
Thanks
Thankyou! 🥰
I wish you all the best.
Lol 😀😀😀
Hope all is on track with build. Take care.
I’m from Dumfriesshire, I’ve been a subscriber for a few months now, where did you live in Dumfriesshire
Do you have plans to come to North America
Have you thought about alloy wheels for weight saving.
Appreciate you guys answering my question! 😁
Yous are so sweet love watching you all great travels
Best buy a daf with a cumins bt6
Top work and top parenting.
Keep up the excellent videos, love'em.
All the best.
Thank you! Will do!
Could you DM the sites you mentioned that you used whilst in Europe for park ups please?
😊
We use campercontact and searchforsites mostly
Love the content guys; new to vanlife on the south coast: what parking apps do you use please?
Hi I am rod Harrison from lerwick just wanted to say that me and my wife sold ever thing to go travelling in our motorhome we went to Morocco for 3 months and loved it we went from gebralta to casablanca over the atlas mountain that is a must. Ps loving the blog
Thanks! That's so good to hear. Hopefully that's where we will be heading!!!
Cracking video. I’m in for the long haul.
Do you plan to have more children? And if so, where would they sleep in the new layout?
Can I just say I adore this channel I came across it a month ago and it’s fantastic! - question: do you ever feel unsafe in park-ups? Hearing someone outside etc? Are the kids ok with it?
I am a newbie to your channel, I’ve gone with this motto for a long time you only get one go at this life job, so just leave it after all said and done things are not getting any easier for any of us without getting too political things 😂 all the best to you all👍
So true, thankyou!!!
Truck is a lorry as in a lorry you go to a truck stop to eat!!
Home schooling is 'proper' school,
One could argue that non-home-schooling is not 'proper' schooling, as it's just designed to produce factory/office workers (which is why they started the public education system after the turn of the industrial revolution - factories needed workers that could read and count) 🤓😎
You are both amazing! Thank you for answering my question..I can’t believe you used to work in forestry as my job role is woodland specialist ranger…although I can see why you choose vanlife! Awesome as always and hope to see you at the show in September! Keep up the great work enjoy 🤘🏼
That is awesome! See you at the show
I am curious to hear why you guys don’t like Park4night? We are an Aussie family motor homing around Europe and have found it invaluable but are keen to see what the alternatives are.
We find it's not great for families, lots and lots of laybys.
Hi guys the lorry looking great so far, what were the park sites/apps you said u use?🙂
We're r you going to park it wen you go shopping
Your a cool couple and I love the Lorry build good job
Cheers appreciate it!
Brilliant content 👌
How much did this build cost, and qhat do you think its worth to sell on?
Been looking at Race Trucks, they are mega money!
I am at round hill camp site in the new forest £11.00 per night great stay
Thats a great price!
Thanks Matt, 100% agree!
