We were at exactly this city camper pitch in Montpellier last oktober. Nice place with good service for a real fair price. The nearby Boulangerie at the roundabout was great also. I do recognize the restrictions for overnight stays for larger campervans around the harbor, city center and along the water at Palavas-les-Flots but that honestly did not surprise me. Our van is 2.5 meters high, 6 long so that was not possible for us either. Normal parking in that area was no problem at all, many large parking spaces available. You can also spend the night on a few of them. We were in that area for about 4 days, we paid for 1 night in the same place as you were and the other 3 nights in the area on larger free parking spaces along the A9 and A709. All in all, this was our first trip through France and we will do it again in a few months. We were on the road for 21 days and stayed 6 nights on campsites and the rest on free places along the highway or in villages near the highways.

@@Jude74 it's crazy that the world's becoming less van friendly. All because the powers that be aren't happy there is a small group of the population not taking out a mortgage on a house to pay interest back to a bank.

@wildfreevanseaWhat an odd and uneducated, shallow, naive and conspiracy statement to make 🤔 firstly, the vanlife community is a minuscule part of the U.K population, I hardly think the "powers that be" have an active policy of discrimination based on lack of mortgages purchased by vanlifers, secondly, most vanlifers either have a mortgage and rent their property, had a mortgage and sold up, or have paid their mortgage off and are now travelling, vanlifers are having absolutely zero effect on banks profits. Thirdly, there are literally thousands of places to legitimately park a van in the UK, you can choose to use them or not, sure, lot's of councils all over Europe discourage vans and vanlifers in certain places, but that's more to do with the bad elements that leave rubbish and shit everywhere they go, and not to mention the travelling community who turn up en masse and completely take over until removed by the police, and furthermore, nearly every vanlifer is paying thousands a year into economies via road tax, tolls, insurance, petrol, diesel etc etc, so to make the claim that vanlifers are being discriminated because banks are annoyed they're not buying houses is laughable in the extreme. And I've been living in my van for over five years, guess what? I've never once parked in a car park, it's not my thing....
