Knife Making - Forging a Small Knife for the Workshop
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 гру 2020
- I didn't bring any knives with me when I moved to Canada and quickly realised I needed one for use around the shop. I decided to make it a small thick full tang knife so it could hold up to the crude tasks it might be subjected to over time (I already used it as a prying tool yesterday). While far from perfect I'm pretty happy with how it came out considering it's the first knife I've made with an angle grinder and no belt grinder.
Thanks for watching!

It makes me very happy seeing him at a "proper" shop (as in a bigger and better equiped one) but I will definelty miss the old small and more "cozy" old shop
I feel the same way haha.
Haha my workshop knife is a chopped off machete blade with an edge ground in it, this is a beautiful Edc or camping knife
felt like refreshing my knifemaking skills a bit hehe ;) Thank you!
an angle grinder and a dream.
awesome work as always.
Thank you!
That's an interesting way to use an angle grinder.
yeah I thought so too lol.
Hey guys and girls... if there are any even here lol. I have been a blacksmith for two years now making knifes and decorative pieces and I don't think I will ever stop, I just wanted to say thank you make and create I've drawn so much inspiration from this channel and have just started my first sword! It's going to be a short broadsword. but anyhow I also wanted to appreciate that you don't have many power tools like big hammers and whatnot making your work more by hand than machine. I don't use power tools much either I've got some hammers and an anvil, I also don't use a propane forge I use coal it makes me feel more like a genuine blacksmith. also no hate to propane users. thank you!
Thank you mate! Best of luck with sword and blacksmithing :) Get after it!
You are the real legend!!! thanks bro
Beauty Knife!
Merry Christmas and for that i will like the video for it. 👍
Thank you! you too :)
AWESOME
Might not be the prettiest knife I have seen made but it will do what it's made for and will be arround when a bunch of those pretty knives would be used up 👍
Exactly the point of it haha.
Oh my god, that is such a nice knife. I know it was only posted today, but how's it only got like 200 likes? It's a crime
Thank you!
i like the unfinished look of the top half.
It's usually referred to as a ''Brut de forge'' finish. Thank you!
Great job!
Pro!!
Congrats!!!
That’s a great knife. Entertaining as always, keep up the great work and merry Christmas
Thank you very much :)
Came out nice.👍🏻
Thank you!
Am I the only one who would happily watch a unedited version of these videos?
haha that would be a couple of hours of footage lol :)
A sturdy little cutter, I like it!
Indeed. Thank you!
Wow, very nice knife! I love it.
i can’t believe this is the same person i mean this is just incredible you’ve come a long way from where you were good job and keep up the good work
Thank you! Still far to go ;)
I did not expect for you to use an angle grinder like that. You put an edge on the knife before you finished the handle. I usually do the sharpening last after everything is done, just for safety reasons. Otherwise it's a good knife and a good video, enjoyed it.
Fantastic Knife 👍👍 and a good Job 👍
Thank you!
Nice!
Thank you!
Beautiful knife. Using angle grinder for bevels was awesome.👍👍🔥🔥
hehe gotta make do with what I've got for now :) thank you!
良い仕事です!かっこいい!
I love the coffin ⚰️ handle that’s sweet!
Thank you very much :)
Nice blade!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

Me up until 13:45 :”maybe I’m an idiot but how will you keep the guard on?”
Me after 13:45 :”ah-ha”
Nice work dude! I need to try a guard on a full tang knife one of these days
@keith moore seems pretty hard to get a perfect fit though. I’ll give it a go sooner or later
Thank you liam. It's not that hard to get a good fit I think. I was being a quite sloppy as this was just a knife for myself and rough use but it actually wasn't too bad.
Dynamic wood splitting
👍👍👍
Are all of these tools yours? If so let's see some use nice work and merry Christmas
any chance we could get a more detailed guide on the guard solder? ive been trying but i cant get the solder to take very well.
Also I have a question, what made you want to start blacksmithing?
Linda faca
Great video and merry Christmas! I’m not hassling you this is just a question. Why did you sharpen the knife before you put on the handle? It seems like that made everything more dangerous and you aren’t cutting anything with it til it’s done. I just don’t understand why the knife needed to be hair shaving sharp for the second half of the build. Again just an honest question.
Wouldn't have been able to sharpen the whole blade if I hadn't done it before assembling. Thank you and you too :)
Forge a sword, pleace!
Like if you want to see him forging a sword.
Looks great! I love blackwood, it is such a dream to work with.
Is silver soldering preferable to electric welding in a project like this?
it wasn't actually silver solder but lead free tin solder. Not really I just wanted to try it :) Thank you as always mate!
@@MakeNCreate silver solder is stronger, although I'm not sure how big the difference is
@@MakeNCreate electric welding will damage the heattreat. If you weld before headtreat make sure to do enough thermal cycles since it will stress the steel. (Even thoughI wouldnt recommend welding it)
🔥⚒🔪👍✌
Fake Fallkniven? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤣
Saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾
You must make a lethear sheath to it
Nice! Do you have New Workshop? Merry Christmas! 🎅🏻🇫🇮
Yes I just moved to Canada so I'm renting one for now until we get our own place. Thank you!
Охуенный нож) но наверное тяжелый очень)
Merry Christmas. Very nice knife, but why not weld on the crossguard?
I wanted try and see how well tin solder would hold. Merry christmas! Thank you.
What kind of wheel did you use for the bevel?
A flap disk.
@@MakeNCreate Thankyou
New sub here, you do amazing work! do you have an online store? I'm interested in buying this style of knife for Christmas gifts.
Thank you! I have some knives available on my website: makencreate.net. if you want a more custom piece send me an email: makencreate@outlook.dk or a Dm on Instagram.
Quick question what is the baking soda used for?
The ferric chloride used to etch the steel is an acid and baking soda is a base. So making a solution of it in water works well to neutralize the acid so I don't get burned.
Oh I thought it was for cleaning it, but that makes sense
Me : where is your ruler
Make n : on me
Any tip for preventing rust?
Keep your blade clean and dry. use a sheath. If you're in really humid conditions apply so sort of oil or grease to the steel.
@@MakeNCreateoh god, i've been noticed!!!
tnx
How's life in Canada bro?
I worry about that angle grinder in the vice like that. It looked kind of precarious there.
Meh, felt safe enough ;)
Are you gonna make a new viking shield?
Maybe at one point yeah :)
I'm a gamekeeper in England and have 5 years left before I retire! I want one more knife, how do i go about contacting you with a design? If you do that sort of thing.😁👍
Hi Nick! Here is my email: makencreate@outlook.dk
I'm sure we can figure something out :)
@@MakeNCreate thank You I will be in touch!👍
First
Seems a dangerous thing to do, sharpen the blade before final assembly and finishing. Both for you and the knife edge, the edge, when honed is much more easily damaged.
Soldered guards used to be more common. You are using the wrong torch and improper technique soldering... I suggest giving it up unless you really want to do it.
Jesus, have you thought about actually giving advice instead of being a dick? If everyone was like you, nothing would ever get done as first attempts are rarely perfect.
You should never pry with a knife
