Hey män, thanks for the in depth review! For what it's worth: Everybody who used GK before knows they have a huge amount of highs in the noon-setting. I'll never ever boost my highs on the 400RB or 700RB.
I spent weeks trying to convince myself what I wanted was a Mesa WD800. Features, build, warranty, all perfect. But the sound is just so blah. Bought this GK and am very happy.
I appreciate your reviews and also will add how great it is for R&B, jazz fusion, rock funk etc... I know it's overdriven tone is a signature in some heavier styles as well. I play the Legacy 500 around 4-5 hours a week between home and band practice and while it offers many EQ shift options it's straightforward tone is excellent. I have found best results with all switches off (straightforward full deep bass no treble extension) with trim at around noon for both active and passive, overdrive off, all EQ at noon except treble. Treble is best starting around 9:00. This gives me great tone everytime. Very versatile and the bass stays tight and deep in the mix.
bought the GK legacy 115 combo. Love it. Been using GK for decades after I blew up 2 old tube heads. Best tone stack in the biz IMO if you learn how to use it and cabs project really well. Stuff is bulletproof.
I just sold my beloved MB210-II combo and CX210 extension cabinet to my buddy’s son, he needed a good amp in good shape for a good price and I’ve been jonesing for a Legacy 212. Just ordered the Legacy 212 today, I don’t expect to ever buy another bass amp unless it’s something all-tube for heavy, stoner-y stuff and prog metal. I started with a 700RB-II/210 combo 20 years ago, bought my MB around 10 years ago, and now this. G-K has just always been ‘my’ sound, and I can get most tones I’ve ever wanted out of them with just about any bass. They’re just ‘right’. Yeah, they’re trebly, I just cut the highs a little and/or disable the tweeter (no tweeters sound good to me anyway).
I tried the first gen micro amps from GK , and found that it had no balls compared to the 1001 RB MkII. Tried the 500 watt and 800 watt models, with the GK Neo Cabs 210 X 2 , also 410 Neo Cab (4 ohm version) The RB spanked the micro series, wasn’t even close! I still have 2 1001RB’s , super clean and tons of headroom! I’m guessing the new offerings are probably the same, class D amps vs AB …
Just found your channel and showing the bass in the mix really puts this review over the moon! Really reminds you that what may sound good or bad to your ear when solo will sound totally different with the rest of the band! Currently looking for a portable head that sounds good and I think this might be a contender. Allways love the 800rb and this sounds pretty good!
I didn’t come around to appreciating GK’s stuff until after years of playing. The more I hear their stuff now, the more I like it. I’ll definitely be looking at GK seriously when considering amplification. Great job on the video, too. The new place & setup is looking good.
@@jesuguru2394 Well, I’ve had the 800 for about a year and a half now. I tried to like it but I just can’t, I gotta say it’s pretty disappointing. It’s very bland and generic. There’s no life or feeling to it. Have you ever had a bad sound guy, the kind of guy that over compresses everything to the point where there’s no dynamics or feeling left? That’s what this amp reminds me of. It’s no 1001RB. To add insult to injury, GK discontinued the RB series so you’re kinda stuck with this turd, or the fusion (which isn’t much better). I purchased a couple of used 1001RBs off of Reverb. Between those two and the two I already own, I’m hoping I won’t have a need for purchasing a new amp for several years. Hopefully GK comes to their senses and brings back the RB line.
I bought this amp with a GK 4x10 cab (4 Ohms). On the back of the amp there are three options: 8+4, 4 or 8, and 4+4. Which do I use for the 800w cab? And what type of cables do I use to connect the amp to the cab?
I have the 212 legacy combo on back order , in anticipation to use it as my church combo. (Gospel). If it sounds near to what you’ve shown in this review than i think I’m good! Thank you for this! Please do a review on the Aguilar gear you use! I’m shopping for a home rig as well!
I think you're going to be very happy pairing this with a 212! And yes I'd love to do an Aguilar review as well. It's on the list of things to do, so fear not!
I just. Bought a GK Legacy 800 amp and the GK 500 Watt NEO 210 cab. The bottom kills it. But like you said. The High end seems to not be there like I want it. I’ve been playing GK as well as other Big brand name bass set ups since 1981. And am Always learning from other good Bass players on how they get their sound. So what’s a Dry knob. And can I buy one. For my GK Legacy head.
Thanks! I'm not sure, but you can probably find it in here static1.squarespace.com/static/52d881e0e4b093afad1a2ae2/t/5d7a6ec43f5dcd58665c83ac/1568304837300/160-0960-A+Legacy+Series+Manual.pdf
My thoughts exactly. Whenever I buy a new bass, the true test comes when I take it to practice. How it sounds when I sit with it at the shop is taken with a grain of salt.
Great job Jayme !! Now could you please tell me the name of the soul_gospel artist whose music you were playng on? That's just my favourite kind of music. Thanks in advance!
Dude, you have a new subscriber, because this is the best gear review video I have ever seen and I watch lots or review videos. I love that you actually talked about the product, showed how it worked in different genre of music and gave a really good overview at the end. I appreciate that you highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the product, given your review this is pretty high on my list of possible amps to consider when I upgrade from my G-K MB200. Keep up the good work and I will keep watching your stuff.
You complain about too much high end and yet you had the presence toggle on nearly every example. Of course it sounds like ass. Mine sounds nothing like this, and of course my playing sounds nothing like this, cuz youre light years better

When playing @torillo headquarter there’s Tomeks Epiphani amp in the back. Have you reamped the clean DI-signal with the GK?

These amps slice right through the mix!

My first amp was a GK 800RB I think, so this Legacy was a very familiar sound to me. Thanks Spencer!
@@deadbeatstudios me too!! I was such a moron for selling it!!. Oh well.
Really useful comments, thank you!
Nice playing. Going to try mine in anger for the first time this week, into one Accugroove Tri112L with a 2nd on hand.
I just ordered one with neo212, Looking forward to it
100% on the fact that every "overdrive/drive" option should have a blend knob
great editing, and love the Zelda graphics!
Thanks Michael!
I just purchased one of these as a backup for my GK 1001RB. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm pretty excited to hear what it sounds like.
Interested to hear what you think. The 1001RB was the last GK product I owned. I sold it, and have missed it since.

Speakon cables. With one 4 ohm cab you can use either speaker output, just put the switch in the “4 or 8” position.
Hello! I think you got the exact setup I'm also looking for to get. How is it going? Are you happy with it?

Great demo, dude
You should demo the Fusion S line and see if you like the voicing better. To me it seems like it's a bit more vintage voiced, or can be made that way.
Best bass related reviews on youtube
Thank you, I'm honored!

It's funny how something that sounds pretty bad on it's own can sound really good in the mix. BTW what's the power rating and does it do 2 ohms?

Could you make another video with the presence switch turned off?
What is the first bass you’re using?
Thanks for the Review
What was The First Bass
You were Playing and was it passive ..... THANKS
Jayme Lewis signature Torillo bass.
Awesome amp. I would like to buy one.
Great job Jayme !! Now could you please tell me the name of the soul_gospel artist whose music you were playng on? That's just my favourite kind of music. Thanks in advance!
Can you set line out volume separately, or is it tied to the input gain?
Where can I get that bassist shirt?
Sounds very very good
Thanks!
much thanks Jayme
Jayme have you seen the Aguilar DCB-M4 yet? It is musicman shaped. I bet you would love it more than standard MM pickup.
I haven't, but I'm going to their factory on Monday so I'll check it out!
What does the great specifically mean?
You are such a great reviewer. Wow.
What does it mean when the screen goes gray?
Grey means the amp is bypassed. It's a clean DI signal.
Great video. I really liked it!
Thanks!

Good stuff man!
Thanks John!
Great review! A+
Thank you Yvans!
Good review man
Thank you!
what song is that and what model torillo bass is that?
The intro is an 8bit version of Deck the Halls from my 2012 xmas album :) And it's a Jayme Lewis signature Torillo bass.
Name the first songs please..
Very good review, but amp........:/ why so many treble in second setting?
You complain about too much high end and yet you had the presence toggle on nearly every example. Of course it sounds like ass. Mine sounds nothing like this, and of course my playing sounds nothing like this, cuz youre light years better
you could also reduce the high end in post. you can always reduce it's hard to add frequencies that aren't there!
Oh wow, they didn't include an OD blend? Yeah that's an amp killing omission in 2020.
