When I was going to technical college I did one of my essays, which was a breakdown of the lyrics to a song of my choice, on the song "Skull and Bones." At the time I couldn't find lyrics for the song so I contacted A.A. Bondys publicist, agent, or something of that nature, to see if I could somehow get a copy. I wasn't expecting much but... Not long after I received an email back. She said that the man himself took time out to write down the lyrics and give them to her for me to use. Holy fuck. What? Dude isn't just a talented musician, he's a talented human being too.
I went to a small show on a tuesday night probably a dozen years ago. I sat by myself near the stage and maybe 30 other people were eating dinner and watching. AA Bondy and the band absolutely killed it. On of the best performances I've ever seen. He had his guitar upside down and was bending the neck while it feed back. After the show was done I was walking out. He was hanging out talking to some girls out front. I didn't want to bother him and he stopped what he was doing and walked over and said hi and shook my hand. I'll never forget that. Stand up dude
I saw this for the first time 11 years ago. To this day, it still blows my mf mind and brings a tear to my eye. It’s positively one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever watched.
Such a haunting voice. He and his guitar are as one and when they go electric it becomes ethereal (6:07). My friends and I followed him around Texas from 1997 through 2003 while he was with Verbena. Then they broke up and he disappeared for 4 years. not a peep. no where to be found. He came back solo and again anytime he came through Texas we were there. We were at his last show December 18th 2015 at the Mohawk in Austin Texas. No drums, no bass, just him. Simply amazing. So humble and engaging. During that show he made several cryptic comments that made me think he was about to disappear again. I hope he finds his way back to us.
I love this version so much more than the studio version. I'm pretty sure this is the only song I like this version of more than the studio version too.
Yeah, he's back and what's he doing? Dreadful ambient synth downer music. He may as well have stayed away. Oh well, at least he's alive and I'm glad for that.
Does anyone know anything about this guy? I checked out Verbena and he's clearly heavily into Cobain, or was. A bit too much actually, it's a bit embarrassing. You then get into the sleepy, swampy folk rock vibe of his first 2 solo albums, the transitional 3rd and now this dirge album........my question is this........is he a junkie? His work screams of it. Big time. He's doing funeral music now. I hope he's clean but his work says no which is why I was worried about him in my original post.
@@zenbabaloo1931 I saw him play in London 2 nights ago. I really like the new album but I admit it doesn't reach the heights of his early solo work. He's still writing some great songs, but the electronic arrangements aren't doing much for me, he's definitely better with the guitar. I hope he either develops his synth arrangements or loses his current aversion to traditional folk/rock genres. Incidentally he's really embarrassed about his Verbena stuff, by all accounts.
