Hi, sorry for the late reply. The person that came out and did the measurements ahead of time did a poor job plus some of our walls bowed some over the years. Therefore the installers had to chisel areas of the wall to get the counters to butt against the wall tightly without gaps. I hope this answers your question 😊

Thanks! In order to use just “one”large piece of granite the seam was necessary. It’s a very well done seam and over time you forget it’s there. Initially we had purchased under cabinet lighting to install but then decided against it because it made the seam show more. And since we have all the recessed lighting in the ceiling we decided the under cabinet lighting really wasn’t necessary. Stay tuned because we’ll be doing a video on my sisters kitchen renovation walkthrough 😊
In February 2019 it cost $3,994 for the granite and labor to be installed from The Granite Shop. I’m sure it’s gone up some, but not as much as other industries. Thanks for watching! 🏡
They adhered them with just the adhesive that they used in the video. I suspect with the weight of the granite that’s all that’s needed. I got lucky with them being ok with me videoing them. That was the first and only time for us seeing an install. Thanks for watching
We purchased the stools at Target: Belvidere 24” Counter Stool Expresso Finish Wood Legs. Also on box says Threshold Quality & Design. We purchased 3 stools but only used 2 so we have one left in box. The thought is, that with our family growing, we may at times use a 3rd stool. Thanks for watching!
I asked my friend that installs laminate countertops for a living how they are installing laminate countertops and he said… First choice-screw down. If no blocking on cabinets, then clear silicone. Can put some weight on top overnight if top has warped at all. For granite countertops the granite shop that installed our granite countertops used silicone caulk and stated that it’s the weight of the granite for the most part keeping them in place. If you look through the comments on our video there is a lot of different opinions out there. Hope this helps 😊
$3,994.00 for 49 square feet. That includes labor. That was close to 3 years ago already. When I get time I’ll see if I can get an updated price if it was done today and post it here in this thread. Thanks for watching 😊

Hi I have a question. I am building a cabin in Spain. The kitchen units are from Ikea and are now in place and I am about to order the Granite counter tops. My builder tells me that the way Granite is installed is on top of Plywood, because a typical counter top is 4cm thick and to buy Granite that thick would be too expensive and weight too much for the units and would make the units collapse. He says what they do is cut the granite to 2cm thickness, lay it on top of plywood and create a lip type of front to cover over the lower layer of plywood so it looks like its all granite thickness of 4cm. Is this bull crap or is this for real. Looking at your video it seems the granite is one thick slab fitted directly onto the base units. Please advise if I am having the wool pulled over my eyes. Thanks, great video. Cheers
So the guy installing my granite countertops says that you don’t need to do any of the caulking before placing the countertops down and that the actual weight of the granite will hold them in place. I mean the countertops are quite heavy but it just seemed kind of odd to me is this normal?
Great question. I’ve always seen the countertops placed on some sort of adhesive caulk. Even though they are super heavy; caulking them gives me peace of mind. If it were me I think I would ask him to caulk. Sometimes different areas of the country do things a little different. Have you considered calling some other installers in your area and asking them if they caulk to get a feel of what’s done in your area?
It’s been almost 3 years and the countertops haven’t had any noticeable movement. The weight of the countertops combined with the caulking is keeping everything in place. We didn’t use any screws. Thanks for watching our video 😊
I think it was GranQuartz Pro Series transparent knife grade polyester stone adhesive. It was a couple years ago now so not 100% sure. I think Akemi makes a product too. Thanks for watching.
It was knife grade, however I prefer to use and integra adhesive is a bit more money, makes the seam stronger and always have a consistent colour from one tube the next (for that seam I'd have used chameleon.)
Hi sorry for the late response to your question. We can’t find our work order which has the counter square footage listed. So we have emailed the Granite shop asking them to re-send our work order and as soon as I get that I will respond with how many square feet our counters are. :)
I put down a plywood 3/4 over the top of the cabinets and its level.. Didn't want the stone leveled by pushing in soft pine shims, nope, avoid that at all costs. With the plywood the stone is equally supported no spaces under the stone. Also my setup is seamless. Too bad you didn't show hou the sink went in.
Thanks for the comment with your thoughts on how you did your install for others to consider. We’re very happy ours. Still level, solid and holding up great!
@@SmokeyMcSpaceballs just trying to show there are no gaps between my stone and the plywood. The plywood is level, how do I know, my level, which is 8 feet long, told me so. Thanks for watching. Our sink is made by Koehler and is called Deerfield® Under-mount Kitchen Sink K-5873-5U. It won’t let me copy the specs here so you will need to google it. I don’t remember but I believe we wanted to buy locally and have delivered and not use a big box store because some of the reviews mentioned imperfections in the sink when purchased. Can’t remember what they were. Because we have had it for almost 2 years now I’m not sure what the prices would be but I think we did pay more than the big box stores at that time for peace of mind to work with a local trusted company.
The name is “horizon” and there are darker whites, beige, tans, ambers, blacks, rust, burgundy, red. There are different shades of all the colors. It’s hard to describe. There is also a mineral called mica in it and also some gray pieces of quartz in it. Best way to see is to get a screen shot at the end of the video when there are closer up clips of the counters and then zoom in on your computer or phone. UA-cam won’t let me post a picture in the comments. Hope that helps 😊
Very professionally produced; nice going! Everything is covered and well-explained. I've never seen those 'cross bars' under the sink; but for such a heavy sink that's probably the best support solution. What do you think of the wire harness used to support a light-weight sink? Thank you.
I will be using a copper sink, and I would worry about dissimilar metals corrosion with the stainless steel supports. I suppose those cross bars can be had with some sort of resin shims and gaskets to eliminate that potential problem?
@@SilverLiningDayDreams Yeah, I have been shopping eBay for some of the appliances and materials going into my kitchen rebuild. I had ordered a stainless double-bowl sink, then after I pulled the trigger on the purchase I found a Coppersmith-brand hammered copper double-bowl at a price that made returning the stainless sink, even including the return shipping, a no-brainer. My plan is blue pearl countertops (it's a galley) with a light-color grey or white granite with garnet flecks as a backsplash and other vertical surfaces up to the cabinets, light-color stained wood or painted base and wall cabinets....
That sinks going to leak 😂. 1/8” bead of caulk is all that’s keeping water from seeping out. I hate how “new technique” trumps old school (caulking on all edges of cabinets)
Not true at all. It depends on the type of granit they are using. I would have liked to have seen some steel support brackets for that over hang on the island end but the type of granit they were using is fairly riggid. Man made quarts is technically more durable than most granits but it has its drawbacks for sure. I would never out man made quartz in my home. Seams never turn out because razor blades always leave metal marks.
Silver Lining Day Dreams you don’t need plywood lol that’s only for 2cm granite and these were 3cm (more durable) and even then it’s not necessary these guys did a great job -Professional Granite installer
Also I don’t like the silicon going underneath the countertop and in between the wall sides. If the homeowner ever wanted to replace them, it would tear something up trying to get them out. 1 bead of silicon underneath after setting them is enough, nobody should be prying up on their countertops in the first place and if they do it should break warranty
Agreed in that not as much silicone needed. These counters are so heavy that the weight of them pretty much keeps them in place. Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment 😊
Q-presss i didnt mean run the whole seam at a 45. Where im from we normally notch a small 45 cut to seam at a 90 i was just curious with the round notch at seam
@@ShotsbyNerio oh gotcha. Im pretty sure it has to do with hiding the seam more. I've seen a few seams like that but never grasped the real justification on it. It was an odd install lol
This is for sure a rookie video, noticed that the sink was not taped off and the joint was done poorly, please if you see this video, just know that this is not done at a professional level!!
Tape waste of time especially for caulking white on white. Use paintable. If you can't judge on how much to use put less and fill gaps. Can't imagine putting tape every time Jesus id quit. Seal the top before applying any calking except trans white silicone in front of top where top and cabs meet. Why you drill hole after calking?
Thanks for leaving us a comment with your thoughts. A lot of people that are serious about installing granite counters read through these comments. The more information available to them the better. Take care 😊
The piece under the window is glued to the peninsula piece and there was adhesive caulk placed all along the walls after the install to keep water out. These combined pieces weigh very very much. Some of the caulking laid on the cabinets is still there doing it’s thing. It’s mostly the weight of these counters that keep them in place. It has not moved in almost three years. In fact if you tried to remove the counters or even just try to move them you would more than likely destroy the cabinets in the process. Thanks for watching our video and taking the time to post a comment 😊

Stay tuned because we’ll be doing a video on my sisters kitchen renovation walkthrough 😊
You mentioned the price of the granite material, but I don't think you mentioned the price of the installation as well. Unless that was included?
The installation was included, so the price was for both material and installation 😊
Gorgeous! How are they holding up today?
They are holding up great! No regrets! 👍🏼
@@SilverLiningDayDreams that’s good to hear!
Good job guys 👍👍👍
Pls reply me the granite name
Thanks 😊
It’s a tier 4 called horizon.
Nice
Thanks. So glad we did this reno! Loving the open, spacious , more minimal vibe it gives.
Could you share the cost estimate of replacing this countertop including the labor fee.
In February 2019 it cost $3,994 for the granite and labor to be installed from The Granite Shop. I’m sure it’s gone up some, but not as much as other industries. Thanks for watching! 🏡
Too much! I will pay $10!
Nice!
Great video. And beautiful countertops, can I ask how much was the final price for the granite and labor install please?;
Thank you. $3,994.00 for 49 square feet. That includes labor. Thanks for watching:)
I was hoping to see how they adhered the big slabs to the counter.
They adhered them with just the adhesive that they used in the video. I suspect with the weight of the granite that’s all that’s needed. I got lucky with them being ok with me videoing them. That was the first and only time for us seeing an install. Thanks for watching
100% silicone for expansion and contraction
Where did you purchase those bar stools?
We purchased the stools at Target: Belvidere 24” Counter Stool Expresso Finish Wood Legs. Also on box says Threshold Quality & Design. We purchased 3 stools but only used 2 so we have one left in box. The thought is, that with our family growing, we may at times use a 3rd stool. Thanks for watching!
Is it true that granite or laminate has to be glued down?
I asked my friend that installs laminate countertops for a living how they are installing laminate countertops and he said…
First choice-screw down.
@@SilverLiningDayDreams thanks
How much did you end up paying for this beauty in this day and age? Everything seems expensive now
$3,994.00 for 49 square feet. That includes labor. That was close to 3 years ago already. When I get time I’ll see if I can get an updated price if it was done today and post it here in this thread. Thanks for watching 😊
@@SilverLiningDayDreams thank you. I'd appreciate that. I am looking to update my moms counter top for all her hard work. So I'm saving now and doing research 😊
@@Curious_gen To pay to have our granite counters installed today (February of 2022) at the Granite Shop would be $4,262.00
Three years ago it was $3,994.00
So in three years it went up by $268.00
Actually not as much of an increase as other industries have gone up 😊
We wish you well with your future granite project 😊
Let us know how it goes
Hi! How can I solve this problem from my granite counter top?
🤔 ?
Would have went with a grey silicone caulking
👍that would look great 😊
They didn’t use any screws to secure it to the cabinets?
It’s been almost 3 years and the countertops haven’t had any noticeable movement. The weight of the countertops combined with the caulking is keeping everything in place. We didn’t use any screws. Thanks for watching our video 😊
I work in granite you don’t need screws whatsoever.. the silicone keeps in in place it’s not Formica
what was that you used to put between the two slabs of granite to join them?
I think it was GranQuartz Pro Series transparent knife grade polyester stone adhesive. It was a couple years ago now so not 100% sure.
I think Akemi makes a product too. Thanks for watching.
It was knife grade, however I prefer to use and integra adhesive is a bit more money, makes the seam stronger and always have a consistent colour from one tube the next (for that seam I'd have used chameleon.)
How many square feet of counter space is that?
Hi sorry for the late response to your question. We can’t find our work order which has the counter square footage listed. So we have emailed the Granite shop asking them to re-send our work order and as soon as I get that I will respond with how many square feet our counters are. :)
@@SilverLiningDayDreams oh wow. Thanks!
49 square feet
This was informative, my countertop is laid out the same as yours. Ball park cost?
$3,994.00 for 49 square feet. Thanks for watching:)
Silver Lining Day Dreams thanks.
Was that cost with the install?
Yes, that included install (labor). Sorry, UA-cam doesn’t always alert me when people post a comment. Sorry for the late response.
👍🏼
👍👍👍
Thanks 😊
very nice, btw what type of adhesive ur using for the granite countertop?
Thanks. 100% silicone so floats (can expand and contract)
@@SilverLiningDayDreams How much is the price range?
I put down a plywood 3/4 over the top of the cabinets and its level.. Didn't want the stone leveled by pushing in soft pine shims, nope, avoid that at all costs. With the plywood the stone is equally supported no spaces under the stone. Also my setup is seamless. Too bad you didn't show hou the sink went in.
Thanks for the comment with your thoughts on how you did your install for others to consider. We’re very happy ours. Still level, solid and holding up great!
@@SmokeyMcSpaceballs just trying to show there are no gaps between my stone and the plywood. The plywood is level, how do I know, my level, which is 8 feet long, told me so. what size is your kitchen sink?
kohler? could of got it cheap er at Home Depot or and Lowe's and just
Thanks for watching. Our sink is made by Koehler and is called Deerfield®
Under-mount Kitchen Sink
What was your granite color?
The name is “horizon” and there are darker whites, beige, tans, ambers, blacks, rust, burgundy, red. There are different shades of all the colors. It’s hard to describe. There is also a mineral called mica in it and also some gray pieces of quartz in it. Best way to see is to get a screen shot at the end of the video when there are closer up clips of the counters and then zoom in on your computer or phone. UA-cam won’t let me post a picture in the comments. Hope that helps 😊
@@SilverLiningDayDreams Thank you ... I went with "Toasted Almond" quartz. it has a riverbed look.
How much did the countertops cost?
3,994.00. Thanks for watching!
@@SilverLiningDayDreams What is the name of the granite?
@@taivalle it’s called Horizon. Just Horizon. There are variations of it that look different such as white horizon. 😊
Very professionally produced; nice going! Everything is covered and well-explained. I've never seen those 'cross bars' under the sink; but for such a heavy sink that's probably the best support solution. What do you think of the wire harness used to support a light-weight sink? Thank you.
Thanks. You made our day.
They are doable in some applications. I have a bias towards being extra cautious though 😊
I will be using a copper sink, and I would worry about dissimilar metals corrosion with the stainless steel supports. I suppose those cross bars can be had with some sort of resin shims and gaskets to eliminate that potential problem?
@@5610winston Copper will will look fantastic. Yes, there’s a fix out there somewhere; whether something on Amazon or local hardware store.
Why did you use a sponge when drilling the faucet holes? Just curious.
To decrease the dust and help cool the bit. Thanks for watching.
That sinks going to leak 😂. 1/8” bead of caulk is all that’s keeping water from seeping out. I hate how “new technique” trumps old school (caulking on all edges of cabinets)
Thanks for leaving us feedback on our install. It helps us all improve. Take care 😊
No backflash and no plywood underneath the countertops.i hope its not easy broken cause granite is not strong as quartz.
2 years and all is well. :)
We’re super happy with it! Still looks fantastic! :)
Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment 😊
yup, people who do this kind of silicone will burn in hell, the dirty bastards. Completely unnecessary and such a pain in the ass.
3:12 I recommend a sink saver. Risky game you're playing
Thanks. Good suggestion
100% I'm surprised they didn't use clamps or have a truck with a ramp.
@@UnSovereignedCitizen69 depending on the person walking upstairs backwards with clamps is a hindrance
where are yall from and why do yall use does weird seams why not just a small 45 cut at the seam instead of that weird roiund seam at the corner
Because if they would have made a seam at 45° angle it would have made for a longer and more noticeable seam
Could have also had to do with the type of edge they chose too
Q-presss yea could had been because of the edge detail
I cringed when I saw them lifting that sink piece with no sink saver. Just asking for that piece to break.

200lbs for 1 piece??? 😳😳😳
Ya. It’s like crazy heavy and dense. Thanks for watching 😊
Granite is between 23 to 25 pounds a sq.ft
This is for sure a rookie video, noticed that the sink was not taped off and the joint was done poorly, please if you see this video, just know that this is not done at a professional level!!
Thanks for leaving a comment with your thoughts. We kindly disagree 😊
Take care 😊
DO NOT put silicone before adding the countertops what the heck?! The customer will just get a mess in their cabinets and you get more to clean....
Thanks for the heads up to our viewers! We were fortunate that it turned out ok with little clean up 😊
They just bulldozed all the glue off cabinet top edges. What a joke why do you even use glue?
The piece under the window is glued to the peninsula piece and there was adhesive caulk placed all along the walls after the install to keep water out. These combined pieces weigh very very much. Some of the caulking laid on the cabinets is still there doing it’s thing. It’s mostly the weight of these counters that keep them in place. It has not moved in almost three years. In fact if you tried to remove the counters or even just try to move them you would more than likely destroy the cabinets in the process. Thanks for watching our video and taking the time to post a comment 😊
